San Stefanos news and views / Re: HOW LONG UNTIL YOU GO?
« on: April 23, 2009, 01:13:13 AM »
Yes Don, that's what worries me. It will only be a memory when you are still looking forward. If you keep rubbing it in I won't send back any early reports, especially answers to your questions!
Sorry, I promise to be nice to you

I'll think about it!

I'm still being good.... Look!

Yes Don you might be, but why the invisible ink?
It was supposed to be Beige!! I think they need to get to Rymans for some more paints!

Is that where you got your shirt re-coloured before it came out for the season?

Hi. I started the thread on this subject last year. I can now confirm that there are a few hot spots available in San Stefanos. They are, (or at least were last year) around the Condor bar, the car hire office beside Thomas bay and behind what was Helena supermarket. There may be others I missed or some new ones.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Paradise Taverna
« on: April 20, 2009, 12:57:54 AM »
I too can recommend the Paradise. We have eaten there many times, the first when  the guys that now run it were little boys running about the place while the father looked on. He now looks on by sitting at a table with his father. Very much a family affair and it doesn't take much for the dancing display to begin. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Out and About / Best Map
« on: April 18, 2009, 03:56:14 PM »
I have just received the map from "Mapman" which was drawn, by hand, by him. He includes his reasons for taking on such a daunting task. He lived on the Island and using all sorts of map, frequently got lost because roads shown did not exist or were only tracks. The  result is very impressive and he guarantees all roads shown do exist, although being some years old, new roads may have been built, or tracks upgraded. One example of this is the road which by-passes Sidari is shown as a track. I would have no hesitation to recommend this map if you intend to drive in Corfu.  You can contact Stephan at: thecorfumap@ntlworld.com

I also tried twice to contact the car hire in san stef for quote, but got no reply. I have now booked with Value Plus for the fortnight at €250 (in May). They must have lost a few hires this way.

Sorry Helen, almost correct gyro does indeed mean round, but in terms of turn round as in rotate (like on a spit). Think gyrate.

Where to stay / Re: Hotel Romanza info please
« on: April 15, 2009, 11:43:01 PM »
There is an ATM at Thomas Bay Hotel which became operational last year. When we were there in June it was empty much of the time, hopefully it will be refilled more often this year. The nearest alternatives are in Arilles or Avliotes.

San Stefanos news and views / Euro exchange rate.
« on: April 15, 2009, 02:49:02 PM »
Good to see the exchange rate improving. The mid-market rate this morning is hovering around €1.126/£1 (on xe.com) and has been creeping gradually upwards for some days now. Long may it continue. There has been some speculation the rate is due to rise further towards mid summer. We go in 23 days so I am keeping a close eye on the rate, and will buy as soon as I see the rate starts to fall (if it does). Fortunately I still have quite a lot of euros left from last year which I bought at €1.25 (oh for the good old days!)
