Cant believe it was back in 2010 when the top three restaurant poll ran for a while, its never too early to talk about food, so, based on recent experiences, what would be your top 3 restaurant recommendations for newbies this season.
Our family consensus 1) Mythica ( puddings won in the tie break family argument! )
2) Ozzie Oils, best relaxed ambiance and all round standards.
3) Little Prince, always fab food and entertainment to boot.
So many brilliant places to discuss and recommend, but, there are only 3 places on the podium!
-
1)Mythica (brilliant food and service my favourite )
2)Ozzie Oils (great food in a lovely setting )
3)Yannis ( great food last year ) (opposite Mythica )
-
1) Olympia (great meze from starters menu)
2)Beachcomber (always top notch)
3) joint Ozzy Oils and Little Prince (both give great welcome and I love their food)
-
Got to be for us:
1/ Olympia
2/ Nafsika
3/ Zorbas
-
1) Olympia - excellent whatever you have and if it ain't on the menu they'll make it for you anyway
2) Zorba's - very good food, great dancing and atmosphere - Krassato mmmmmmmmmm!
3) Beachcomber - excellent food and a great setting
A nod to the Sunset and Little Prince as well. That's 5, I could go on - better stop there.
-
1) Olympia - our personal all time favourite
2) Ozzy Oil - Great welcome and great food everytime
3) Mythica / Little Prince - lovely food and also for the entertainment at LP
-
1) Nafsika
2) Beachcombers
3) Little Prince
-
1) Nafsika
2) Olympia
3) The Waves (at lunchtime, particularly for the sardines!)
-
For us it would have to be.....
1) Zorbas
2) Ozzy Oil
3) Beachcomber
I'd also say the food at the Romanza was as good as any of the above, just didnt include it as we stayed there but definately worth a trip up the hill to eat whilst watching the amazing sunset & view!!
-
Olympia
Little Prince
Zorbas
-
1) Olympia
2) Zorbas
3) Nafsika
We had wonderful meals elsewhere too but these are our favourites.
Had great meals in our hotel too. (Terezas)
-
1. Mistral
2. Olympia
3.Manthos
Plus honorable mention for Elpitha.
-
1. Olympia
2. Mythica
3. Sunset (shame they are at the top of the road, never very busy but lovely food)
-
Can`t say i,ve had a bad meal anywhere, but if i have to pick.
1. Mythica
2. Beachcomber
3. Little Prince
Like Gavlah the Romanza is top notch but thats where we stay. 8)
-
Zorbas
Sunset
Olympia
-
Like most of you, I cannot say we had a really bad meal (perhaps Nafsika just the once when the prawns had not been cleaned, the wife complained of grit and sand being present). However, here we go;
1. Olympia (excellent everytime we have been)
2. Mythica (dont bother with starter and just get the bread with olive paste)
3. Sunset (proper Greek food)
-
This is sooooo difficult. I would probably go with:
Nafsika (despite the fact that we had very bad service ther last year)
Olympia.
Ozzie oils ...
But not necessarily in that order.
-
Wow a flurry of reviews which will be so usefull to guests and newbies. An interim update which may suprise regulars as its a wee bit different from the last spoilt for choice?
Lets call this point the 'rest between starters and mains' in the poll, as I hope many more reviews are yet to land , the top 5 to date
( 1st choice = 3 points 2nd = 2 3rd = 1)
Gold medal spot .........30 points............Olympia ( guess they had a great 2011 season ?)
Silver medal spot.........13 1/2 points......Mythica ( still popular but way behind top spot )
Bronze medal spot........12 points...........Nafsika ( pushing for runner up spot this year ?)
In the running for medals Ozzie Oils 9 1/2
Zorbas 9
Beachcomber 8
As I say, it can all change, so keep voting gang, Cheers

That is really strange as Olympia never gets hyped like most other taverna.. It's customers must think the food and service from Vasillis and Stelios speaks for itself.
-
Don, took us four years to get to Olympia but it was really worth it.
The other one is Sunset. I mentioned last year we went there on our 50th night in San Stef and then wondered why its quietness put us off. The food is terrific and Spiros? really makes you feel so welcome. When we go back to SS then Sunset will be visited again. It is good, but Don't let the quietness put others off popping in, rgds

Couldn't agree with you more. I find it strange to say that the places we have been most disappointed with have been the most hyped. Possibly because you end up expecting too much. Another rarely mentioned place that we have always had a great night at is Paradise.
-
We have always liked Olympia. Food is always superb as is the service and welcome you get every time. :)
-
Hey Rod don't bother with the starter at the Mythica? Wehad the ones of our life - especially the salmon and spinach and poached egg with the hollandaise sauce...............I say have the bread, then the starter and go to Olympia for the pud!
LOVE the Nafsika's food - Theodora cooks like a dream and her dolmades are the very best.
-
I still have the Kokkinisto recipe that I scribbled down from Katy at the Romanza.....cooked it a few times....lovely....deffo the best thing we ate during that holiday
-
I've got it too, and it is delicious!!
-
That's areally good idea to keep score!
I have only tried the Sunset once and can honestly say that it was one of the least good meals I have ever had in San Stef. Maybe I need to give it another go. Anyone can have an off night. It was very very quiet and the food was mediocre and unfortunately cold (even for Greek standards!)
-
Some great posts here folks but I think we need a few more top three's for the final totals to have real integrity, perhaps the mid point totals derailed the focus a little? Could I ask regulars who have not posted their top trio to consider doing so, the higher the sample group, the greater validation to the medal positions, cheers .
-
Have not posted very often on here, but an avid reader. (We have stopped at the Vicky apartments for the last two years).

I can definitely see some tactical voting there. Pack it in! That's how we got the coalition government. ;)
-
Your favourite is still holding on Rod, but, as they say, it is beginning to look like a game of two halves! Still time for a late run as we head towards puds and coffee!
-
1st ( By a long long way ) Olympia Best food , welcome & house wine

3rd Akrotiri Excellent food ( Especially the salads ) Panoramic views of San Stef & Arrillas

2. Gravia - delicious FRESH lunches
3. Mythica - for the BEST starter - salmon, spinach and poached egg
-
1. Little Prince - just fab!!
2. Zorbas - brilliant dancing and food.
3. Mango Bar - love the lunches and great staff.
-
Thought it may be worth an update as we approach the latter stages of the poll, things are really hotting up for silver and bronze but it seems unlikely that Olympia will lose top spot, but still a few regulars who have yet to cast a vote, so you never know.
Over half of all voters have Olympia in their top three, I must confess it has not been on our radar but we will certainly be popping along this year.
Hope the table is of use to both regulars and newbies alike, I am sure all who have voted would join me in reassuring those still to make their minds up about visiting San Stef that the restaurants outside the top placings are still some of the finest eateries you will find on your travels.
Anyhoo....latest positions ..................... Gold medal spot ................Olympia...............39 points
Silver medal spot............... Little Prince.........22 points
Bronze medal spot..............Mythica...............21 1/2 points
4th..................................Nafsica................21 points
5th..................................Ozzie Olis.............17 1/2 points
Joint 6th...........................Beachcomber........14 points
Joint 6th...........................Zorbas.................14 points
Would hope we can still get a few more top three's in, and I would hope we could all be satisfied this poll is a reasonable sample group and a fair reflection of what San Stef has to offer.

New editor required according to my other half...
-
belly port sounds yum!
-
I like the sound of that "Belly Port" Debra, is it alcoholic??
-
ha ha! lol!
-
Just seen on the Agni Forum that Mythica won't be opening this year. :(
-
That is a real shame and does not bode well .... Hopefully it's not the first of many.
-
oh that is such a shame - have booked and was so looking forward to their wonderul starter of salmon and spinach and poached egg. is it the economy , do we know the reason?
-
Was looking forward to going to Mythica again as we have always enjoyed the food there and the ambience. One of our favourite places :(
-
Really hope this is not true!!
-
JUst read it on Jennys Mythica site on Facebook. Such a shame and we wish them loads of luck for the future
-
Likewise - great shame!
-
That is a great shame - we always loved the food there. it will be missed!
-
Can I just say what a great thread this is. Have copied and pasted some of the posts and the running order of 'awards' to date to print and take with me. It's going to make a great start to our eating out. I've looked at the online map of all the restaurant & hotel locations which is great, but wondered if there is a printable map of where they all are or am I as well waiting until I come out?
-
It will only take a 10 min stroll through the village and you will soon know where everything is without a map.

Click on the 'Online map' at the top strap and you will see where everything is- just hover your cursor over the icons.

The Village Map on this page is quite useful...

1st - mythica ... ( sadly closed this year )
2nd - olive press ...( sadly closed also )
3rd .. olympia ... happily still open
4th barras ... kids love the mushroom a la creme
5th zorbas ..
one for the energetic type .... elpitha bistro ( near tsaros ) proper chilled night there , be prepared to be there all night though ...
-
Unfortunately elpitha is also not opening this year either. (atleast dimitri said he wasn't opening when I was there in early June)
Such a shame, always been one of my favourites.
-
My house wins hands down always good and the cheapest in town. ::)
Apart from mine everywhere else is great - try them all.
-
My favourite has to be the Beachcomber :)
-
Elpitha was always our favourite too, you were there for the night though, but the atmosphere, food, and his music always made it worth it. When we were there last year Dimitris said he wasn't expecting to open this year, and I've noticed the whole lot, rooms and restaurant, are up for sale.
Shame.
-
Jog my memory - is this where he played the French singer?
-
Not sure what you mean Debra?
We had a long chat with Dimitris this year (as usual).
His Brother has now left and is doing his own thing in business.
Dad (Nondas) may sell up, but we believe it's just another option for him - - i.e. if the money is right etc.
Dimitris is still running the Nondas Apartments with Nondas, and helps out at the Athens Bar whenever they have live music.
Otherwise - he say's (his words), he is happy to be a beach-bum right now - he's very happy!!
-
Not long before we travel to San Stef this year. Just wondering if any forum members who have already returned gained an impression of which restaurants appear to be doing well this season?
Any less busy or appear to be struggling this time around? Also intrigued by the new Chinese restaurant. Sometimes reported as completely empty, sometimes busy, but very few actual reviews from forum members?
-
Chatting to local people we know, many are quiet apart from Little Prince, which has been so busy they've had to drag old fire-dance tables in.
-
Agree with Jimbo that LP is bursting at the seams some nights, but Olympia was also busy when we went and brilliant I have to say, both times.
Beachcomber Bistro was also busy and Fantasea was pretty full too.
Teresas Greek night wed, was totally packed out, as was Romanza on a Sunday BBQ night - both fantastic!
Ozzie Oils was full on the Tuesday when we went and Kerry sang - food as good as ever.
Chinese - didn't eat there, but I asked a couple coming out while I read the menu - they said it was brilliant!!
A few others like Sunset and Barras were half full most nights, as was Zorbas.
-
Hi, just got back yesterday.report is yep little prince is busy as usuall, but in general all places busy as its now the peak weeks.Zorbas was turning people away and in our second week Nafsika was doing well.
-
regular haunts still fab ;D Olympia fabulous! Nafsika ! Little Prince ! Ozzy Oil !
regular haunts shame :( Beachcomber & Zorbas both were very poor this year ......
:) First time at Wave and it was lovely .
So sorry to see mythica and paradise have closed.
Lunch times cannot beat Aquarius Bar for value for money !!!
-
We came back on the 10th August, I think we have been to most of the restaurants over the last few years and I have to say the Beachcomber is one of our many favourites! I think its unfair to say a place is poor on here as this could put people of from going. All the the restaurants we ate at were wonderful, as were the people that worked in them. Hard working and friendly.
-
Agreed Jax - - All the venues are of a high standard - it's just that people have their favourite's - - sometimes more to do with friendship than food!!
