Title: New Ash Cloud
Post by: katie on May 16, 2010, 12:36:30 PM
We're due to fly out tomorrow morning from Newcastle.   It doesn't look likely now if the ash cloud is moving towards the rest of the UK.  Waiting for further updates.....

Ash covering northern parts of the UK and already all Northern Ireland / Scotland/ NW airports closed

Haven't actually seen if Newcastle was one of them although not looking good as Humberside closed
so good luck Katie but prepare for the worst  :-\

I'm due to be flying to Belfast on friday for 3 days and just hope the ash has cleared the UK by then  :'(

Thanks for the link to the map Don.   Things are not looking good but at least Newcastle Airport is not included in the No Fly Zone yet.  Everything is ready to pack, we will just have to wait for further news later today.

Well, we are packed, hoping to have a few hours sleep and ready to set off to Newcastle Airport at 3 am.   The Airport is still open at the moment and we are hoping we will be sitting in the bar at Kapetanios by lunchtime tomorrow, fingers crossed.  We are just hoping our friends who are flying from Birmingham Airport will be able to make it.   Will be in touch again when we get back.

I know what it's like to totally lose a holiday due to this d*mn ash! Wish everyone better luck than I had. Would probably be booked to go myself if I'd been refunded yet.

Maybe Don can sing the Volcano a lullaby - and put it to sleep with his velvet voice!! LOL

We had absolutely no information on the ash cloud when we were picked up in SS this morning other than what we had been able to find out from Sky News.   Unfortunately Sky News was the only information the Thomsons Rep (who this year is 18 year old Sadie on her first repping assignment) had too.   She did get a text message while on the way to the airport saying that flights would be leaving but with delays.    We were lucky in that the Birmingham flight arrived Corfu on schedule, nothing else arrived before our departure and Thomas Cook flights were showing up to 6 hour delays with a Bristol flight perhaps longer.

It look as though everyone was getting there but "eventually" was the operative word.

News today is that the Ash-cloud was not there - but action was based on an unreliable bit of deduction!!

Well the Met Office is involved. 70% accuracy over weather.. Factor in cloud and where it goes and they've no chance of being better than50/50. .................. Heads or Tails anyone?

Prayer Beads
Rosary
String of Garlic around your neck
Quack-Quack Duck Caller for Bingo
Elastic DVT stockings and a Truss for good measure
Parachute
extra medication in case you get stuck there (what a shame!!)
Walking boots and wheels on your cases, (in ''case'' Taxi's are on strike)
Spell-checker
New pair of extra-tight Speedos!!
Also lots of good luck and have a good time!!

Latest scientific view is that NO ASH is being thrown out by the volcano. Fingers crossed everybody!
Title: Re: New Ash Cloud
Post by: Mikee on May 24, 2010, 01:47:55 PM
I heard the risk from the volcano had almost subsided

Unfortunately the 'risk' of using Sleazyjet as an airline continues
40 minutes late flying out of Luton on friday and 45 mins late flying
back from Belfast yesterday due to the inbound Luton flight being late

Got to Luton on friday morning only for EJ to have 3 or 4 desks open for about
800 passengers, then security taking a further 45 minutes to get through

And this was ONLY a domestic UK flight and only may, whats it going to be like in the peak holiday season -
I would strongly advise anyone flying to Greece (or anywhere)
for that matter to allow extra time at the airports to avoid missing their flights

We always get there at least 3 hours early and have a drink or a bite to eat if we have time left, plus the shops!!

Seen to many airport programmes with people shouting , ranting and raving when it mostly is there own fault for not allowing enough time. We just want to be safe than sorry.
