Information and help please / Re: Help on Accommodation
« on: October 19, 2009, 12:52:04 AM »
http://www.sanstefanos.co.uk/where_to_stay/where_to_stay_sunset.html

Spiros can be contacted by using the details on this website........

Have stayed there many many times including Sunset Studios, Blue Dream and Kathys. Spiros and his family are wonderful people and will always look after you. Sunset aren't the most modern apartments in SanStef but they are clean, tidy and the family make a point of ensuring you are happy. The Blue Dream and Kathys are more modern with aircon available for an additional cost.

I enjoy all the posts as well but their is no need for members to jump on someone just because they have a differant view to themselves. Personally, I enjoyed these original reviews as it gave an honest opinion, not through the rose tinted glasses of someone who treats SanStef as their second home, we are just as guilty of that as anyone having been back for the last 11 years or more.

I spoke to the owners of this site yesterday and I know they are extremely hacked off with the quality of the posts lately, the rudeness of some members and are considering closing the forum down as they don't have the time to moderate and indeed don't want to.

So a warning to all I would watch your step because if you don't you will lose your forum !

San Stefanos news and views / Re: The Zimmer Newbie Review
« on: July 13, 2009, 12:28:15 PM »
We steer well clear of any newspaper on holiday, as we don't wish to know what's going on in this "s***" old world of ours especially for the two weeks we are in SanStef. The only exception ever was 09/11 when their was a great long queue to buy any newspaper anyone could get their hands on.

So much so when saw the 09/11 replay on the news in Town Pizza at first, we thought it was a film!

I tend to agree with Zimmer's sentiment here, we have been back every year for 11 years or more. Once you have read your books, done all of the walks for the umpteenth time, been on all the boat trips over the years, driven to Corfu and said hello to everyone you have met over they years their is not a lot left if you don't wish to fry on the beach or by the pool.

However, if you just want to relax, sunbathe and chill out then the place cannot be beaten and I challenge someone to come up with an alternative that offers all that SanStefanos can for the price.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Zimmer's Dinner's

Great report Zimmer, don't agree with everything you say but that's what a forum is all about allowing everyone to express their own views and opinions.

http://www.sanstefanos.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=648.0

I think with the onset of places like Ozzie and Beachcomber (can't speak for Mythica as we missed that one) there are a few taverna's/restaurants who will need to pull their socks up if they want to survive and those that do will have a long queue.

How come that these new places can serve up such quality food, fresh chicken etc for such good value when some of the old ones obviously serve "ping" food?

When we left San Stef a few weeks ago Spiros was on his way to Greece for a back operation, any news on how he is, or whether he is back home?

Thanks

Where to stay / Re: Christina Appts (by the church)
« on: June 09, 2009, 10:59:50 AM »
The Christina Appts were fantastic, we had number 9 with an uninterrupted 180 degree view of the beach, the town and the sunset. A great appartment with a largest bedroom, sitting room/kitchen area and seperate bathroom. The maid came in every day and even made the beds! We spent many nights out on the balcony after our meals with a glass of wine or a cup of tea, and even came back and made our own lunch some days as the balcony was a respite from the sun during the afternoon. Also had use of the Fedra Mare pool and bar area which is fab.

Would we go back? Absolutely

Would we like anything changed? No way

A lovely appartment!

San Stefanos news and views / Re: travellers cheques or cash
« on: June 09, 2009, 02:27:28 AM »
We took an initial amount of Euros in cash and the remainder in €travel cheques. However, when we got there Noula was offering a better GBP - Euro rate than we got in the UK and it got better whilst we were there 1.12, 1.13 and 1.14 on the final day not a great deal of difference but still money in our pockets not the banks! A 2% fee was charged to cash our Euro T/C.

Had a safe deposit box at San Stef Travel so perhaps cash is an option next time?

We celebrated our 9th anniversary whilst in SanStef and went to the Manthos had a very nice meal and the view of the sun setting was lovely. Agree with your recommendation for the Beachcomber though a bit more sophisticated with the same/similar view as the Manthos. We wish we had gone to Ozzy Oils though and had the candle lit table under the palm tree we sat there twice on other nights very romantic and a lovely ambience.

Having been going to SanStef for 10 years or more we decided to eat at some differant tavernas this time, well that was the plan anyway:

Sunset Taverna - had two evening meals, a take away pizza and a couple of lunches here. The Sunset is a great place for traditional home cooked fresh Greek food and they never disappoint. Lovely Greek salad, and cheese pies for lunch. Pizza a bit pricey at €9 but worth every cent. Stifado to die for and lovely fresh lamb gastra and lamb chops - a must for any visit to SanStef

Nafsika - Spero always looks after his customers very well and certainly looked after us. Lost count of the number of lunches we had here which included Greek salad, Tuna salad, and too many starters to fit on the table oh well! Gret meals which included smoked trout worthy of a michelin star restaurant, not that we have ever been to one! Calves liver cooked on the bbq fantastic. One night we had a Meze of about 6 differant starters and a salad with plenty of fresh bread just like the Greeks would have, go on give it a try. (went back three times!!!)

Beachcombers (new) - Well what can we say a differant class to the rest. Fish curry, Lamb taginne, Chicken stir fry, Pork in dijon mustard sauce and stuffed chicken. Make sure you ask for the roasties, just like you make at home Brilliant!!! (went back 3 times!!)

Ozzy Oils (new) - The best meal we have ever had in San Stef. Lovely fresh chicken stuffed with feta and served with roasted peppers and honey and those garlic cream potatoes ohhhhhhhh. The BBQ night must not be missed a great atmosphere great food and free entertainment (went back 3 times!!) such good value.

Manthos - OK we had lamb chops and BBQ prawns with a salad and fried squid for starters can't fault it and the view of the sun setting is fab. Very good but there is better choices now

Yiannis - see sep post

Brouklis (Arillas) - had three lunches here with Dimitris, courgette balls, salad, pumpkin pie, spinach pies all very very good honest Greek food and well recommended.

We tried two new places the Beachcombers Bistro and Ozzy Oils and ended up going back to them three times each, what does that tell you?? We are sure there are others just as good but you need more than two weeks to try them all.

By the way the Olive Press was very quiet every night we walked past, such a shame it was always buzzing and you had to fight for a table two years ago come on give it a go, although we were guilty of ignoring it this time in favour of the Beachcomber.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Yiannis Grill
« on: June 07, 2009, 09:15:29 PM »
Having just returned from two fantastic weeks in San Stef where we had some fabulous meals as usual we have to say that one of these was NOT at the Yiannis. Based on previous recommendations we went on the spit roast lamb night. They offer a set meal for 8 euros including garlic bread or a variety of flavours of home made soup, which was definetly not home made and probably not made in Corfu, with roast lamb, roasties and fresh salad. Maybe the lamb was previously cooked on the spit but it wasn't that day especially as you could not smell it cooking whilst we sat there sipping the free glass of TCP sorry red wine! the salad was nice though.  Maybe this was a one off night but we will not be going back especially when you compare this to the value for money you can get elsewhere in San Stef nowadays!
