Apparently it has had a makeover in the close season, and from what I could see, it looks stunning. One of the best, if not thee best, sunset spots in the village. Ate here a few times, and the food is excellent, and the cold beers too. I wish the new management all the very best for the summer season, and will definitely drop in for a meal or two again during our stay at Fedra. Hope they have oxtail soup on the menu still, the best ever tasted.

Must agree with you food excellent there is a video of the inside when they must of had the opening night its on andreas facebook im not on Facebook but you can still view the video looks lovely inside
-
Got to be on this year's list for a visit then.
-
When Katie was at Romanza I always said it was some of the best food in the village.
Looking forward to sampling it here

Must say I preferred it when it was a good old-fashioned taverna, with Manthos in charge, than the more up-market version of recent times. We'll see.
I agree - Manthos and Beachcomber have the best sunsets apart from Akrotiri. They beat Panorama by a mile, I think.
-
Looks good and hopefully will get more people to venture around the corner and also try Nafsika and Fantasea

Yes the new facelift looks very pretty but can't help feeling a pang of nostalgia for the old taverna and mine host Manthos.
I'll even miss the faded picture of roses that hung by the toilets and the other pictures painted by Manthos' wife. Gone are the days when Manthos used to sneak up with a lobster and frighten some poor, unsuspecting customer or invite you into the kitchen to choose your fish.
It was just the most relaxing place to sit and enjoy lunch or evening meal . I hope he new hosts manage to keep that relaxed atmosphere.

We may take a look, instead of eating in the same place all the time :)
-
Manthos was a great taverna. I remember one evening, a man dashing in and thrusting 20 euros in my hand. I think his name was Jimbo.
-
A simple man, honouring a wager.
-
I loved the original Manthos it really did have something special about it.
We had OH's old uncle with us one year about 20 years ago and it was his favourite place he loved to chat there.
-
It won't be the same. It was always one of the old style taverna's much loved by visitors to San Stef. We will certainly miss it.

Rave reviews about the food and the changes made to Manthos Taverna. Does anyone know if the loungers are still out front, my favourite place to sun worship, and pop to the bar for a cold beer 8).

From looking at the Nafsika webcam, I can see some sunbeds nearby :)

Couldn't agree more Winkie. 8)

The tops of the sunbeds visible in the Nafsika webcam are in front of Mistral - my favourite place to crash!

Sounds great Jim :)

Again mixed reviews for the restyled Manthos, food still quite good but slow service.

Most of the time while in San Stef I can live with slow service but at Manthos with that sun setting it can still be very hot. Have to see what others say about it before our Sept visit.

It certainly can, we don't eat until about 9.30pm so that is more comfortable for us :)

I'll be suprised if it's too hot in September! It was bloody freezing on my birthday last year!

A little late review of the new "Manthos". Popped in for lunch one afternoon, only two tables occupied. The makeover is just ok, the atmosphere completely different, no traditional Greek music which Manthos loved to play, and the bar area now where the stage once was. Four guys waiting the tables, all chatting away to each other, oblivious to us sitting at our table. I approached the serving hatch to ask for a menu, they were pointed out to me on the counter, no words spoken. We eventually were asked for drinks, and at the same time ordered lunch. This arrived pretty quickly, and was very good, and a good plateful. The views remain the same, amazing, could sit here all day, with a cold beer and watch the world go by. Felt the staff were stand offish, no conversation at all with anyone there at that time, might go back in September, and hopefully feel more comfortable.

Bring your coat Jim

That's not good Winkie :( I didn't realise it was the people from Romanza who owned it now, so I would have thought that the service would have been better. We were in Nafsica last night and there weren't many in manthos then.

Andreas from Romania are only renting from Manthos they don't own it. I'm surprised they weren't busy last night as Thursday is their party night. There was nothing wrong with the service when Manthos was running it ,the food was excellent and you didn't have to wait long and there was always a warm welcome.
-
After everyone gave it such favourable reviews on here, we were going to try it the other week, but it must be the only place in San Stef with no menus outside so we gave it a miss
-
That was the reason we didn’t eat there, too. Seems odd.

I think there was a chalk board outside last night.

Ah thank you. No party Thursday night.
-
Someone told me today that the Thursday nights are a winner?
Strange.
-
Ate there in May.....twice!
Service was great. Andreas is a very attentive host.
The food was stunning. The Mousakka nearly floated off the plate it was that light!
Can't wait to go for Greek night in August
-
We went to the Greek night on Thursday 18th July.
Two piece band and several dance sets including, three or four where the diners got involved. All good fun as usual. We loved it. Old Manthos was in attendance and seemed to be please with the size of the turnout. Those who who a Facebook friends of Billy Mouzkatis will have seen the photos posted today
Starter was pitta and tzatsiki with the main being mixed grill. We had two litres of wine and were mildly pissed :)
Since it was our last night, we nipped into Beer O’Clock and had 4 brandies each before we tackled Nondas Hill just before 1am.
It’s a good night and was as good as the last one we went to in 2011.

Good to hear for anyone going again and not really sure about the new set up..

Well, we went back in last week, a little apprehensive after our last visit, as we felt a little bit cold shouldered. What a fabulous difference, met at the entrance with a warm greeting, and shown to a beachfront table straight away. Menu arrived without asking, and we ordered dinner, I wont go into detail as to what we had, but my word, it has to be one of the best meals ever in the village, simply amazing food, served by the most friendly staff, we left gobsmacked :o. Definitely going back to Manthos, a restaurant with a view to die for.

I guess we really enjoyed the place as we went there most days either for lunch, dinner or just a drink. Fortunately we first went during the day for a drink to check the place out in its new guise. Have to say if we had went when the night staff were on first time we may not have been back, far too OTT for our liking. Saying that this did not put us off as the food was superb and the day time staff lovely, well in fact most of them were.
