Gill and I had a weekend in Corfu Town last week and had a fantastic break, with the weather being warm and sunny Corfu was busy with all the Hotel and Taverna owners getting ready for summer.
We had a drive to San Steph and it was a hive of activity with many owners out decorating and getting ready for the new season.
We had a walk up to the path above the Havana Bar which was having a refit and were surprised how wide the beach was, it is back to the size it was in summer 2008 when we first visited San Steph.
The locals say the cold, dry winter has allowed the beach to rebuild with the wind coming from Albania piling the sand against the San Steph shore line.
I will try to upload a photo later to show just how wide the beach now is.

Thanks for that update Andy :)
-
Doesn't look too big today. Looks nearly as bad weather there as here!
-
Hi Andy
Thanks for that. Sounds a great thing to do fly over for a few days - where do you actually fly from? Would LOVE to spend Easter there.
-
:)Glad to hear that people are getting ready for the season starting. With all their problems i hope they have a good summer.
Roll on July.
-
Hear hear. Roll on August !!!!
-
I see what you mean Don, just checked the web cam. It looks really wild, up in Teesside at the moment its chilly but the sun is breaking through.
-
Well it really is raining cats and dogs here in Derbyshire - bank hol again!
-
Typical wash out bank holiday.... Just made comment that I'd have had a better day at work only to be reminded that I don't do mondays...
-
The beach doesn't look too wide to me, just enough room to skirt the Athina fence without getting my feet wet, hope it improves somewhat.
-
Certainly looks better today!
-
The storm this weekend has pushed the water over the sand but on a dry calm day the beach is a lot bigger than it was last season, have a look in a few days time when the weather improves.

Thanks for that Andy!

Summer is def. here - the beach just looks bigger 'cause there are no sunbeds . Still enough to go round. 8)
-
Good point Lizzie, but the beach always seems to shrink when the Mistrals are blowing heavily onto the beach,
and then look bigger on the calm days - I still remember - back in the day - in the eighties -
when we all had to take beach mats with us onto the beach, no beds at all then!!
And the Kantina was on old VW Camper van driven daily onto the beach!!
The beach was much wider in those days!
-
Wish i had found s/stef. then. They say there were no roads as we know them. Manthos had an evening to show a video from many years ago. Stefanos from the Magnet was about 14 he is 45 now.
It was lovely to see how it was then . Manthos had dark dark hair and lots of it.
Avliottes was much the same only the faces had changed.
ahhhh ! the good old days before buses cars ect..
-
Yes in the early 80's the beach was wider, I then lived in Corfu town had a little Suzuki alto car and used to drive upto San Stefanos on a Sunday (my day off) and spend all day with my beach mat and umbrella and a good paperback, from Avliotes to San Stefanos used to take for ever as the road was mostly unmade and very uneven. (Ok so now its still uneven and full of potholes). I still love to spend my Sundays on the same beach smaller but just as lovely.......and as i now live in Avliotes its a much quicker drive. 8)

Enjoyed the photos Tony - Noulas gran what a nice lady she was. Shame they are mostly the " boys" the greek women are always in the kitchen --nothing changes there then. :-X
-
That's a bit unfair, Lizzie! There's a picture of Tony in the kitchen. Hey, Tony - that thing you're staring at in total bemusement's called a "spoon" -or in this case "koutali" 'cos it's a Greek spoon :-)
-
The picture you refer to was a rare one of me doing the washing up - Linda wanted proof!!
-
I see the sunbeds are out today! Roll on July ;D
-
Agree Rob - roll on JUly - when are you there - we are there first two weeks.
-
I'm afraid we will miss you Tony we arrive on the 23rd for two weeks.

I'm afraid we will miss you Tony we arrive on the 23rd for two weeks.
Thats the day we fly out as well, which airport are you flying from ?
-
Shame - Looks like we'll be like ships passing in the night - but have a great holiday !!
-
Hi Dee. Flying out from Birmingham at silly o'clock in the morning -how about you?
Tony you have a great holiday to.

Hi Dee. Flying out from Birmingham at silly o'clock in the morning -how about you?
Tony you have a great holiday to.
we fly from manchester about 6 pm i think, terrible flights both ways this year but everything else booked up,not looking forward to the journey at all,its even worse when we come home we land at 4am :(
-
Not nice flights Dee! would rather have an early flight and get there in good time rather than a later flight and get there in the middle of the night, also a night transfer doesn't have a lot appeal. The later check out isn't that bad as it gives you most of the day there.
Stopping at the Nafsika how about you?
-
We are staying at the Athena,we stayed there last year, there are 15 of us that holiday together we all have 16 year old boys so it works well for us,this year although we booked in october we couldnt all get on the same day so 6 of them are having to travel on the 20th and 1 family is having to stay at the Barras,we no doubt will all meet at glens (aquarius bar ) to start the night off and usually end up back there as well.
-
Hey Robc - we arrive 23rd for two weeks! Second week staying at the Nafsika too. Love love love it there!
-
Debra - Must have a drink or two there
-
yes must do that - can't miss the husband - a bit like a bald viking!!!!
-
Will look out for you
-
Does he wear a Vikings hat as well?? LOL
-
Back home from Edinburgh Friday can't stand the husstle and bustle of of town life.
All i hear is - the bus is late - the weathers to hot / cold. The queue at the check out and 30p to use the public toilet. Couldn't believe that one.Take away the fresh flowers and reduce the price. Take away the rude staff as well. As for the national health service - IT'S SECOND TO NONE.
-
Well Tony, when we married he had shoulder length blonde hair - now his head definitely has grown through the hair -I WANT MY MONEY BACK - ps - no hat!
-
But perhaps a wonderfully-formed and immensely attractive head emerged through the relics of the old blonde thatch?
Were there previously unseen landscapes, like those revealed by the space probes to the moons of Jupiter?
These new surprises are what keep relationships young. Ish.
-
Ah Lizzie, that's Edinburgh folk for you. Never happy, beautiful city tho.
-
Hey Jimno - eloquently put - would show your post to John - only prob - would have to own my statement - and he surely would come up with something TERRIBLE about me! ;D
-
debra - Do you mean you have actually shared all this on the internet and not revealed it to your Viking?
I think this is cruel. I used to have curly brown hair down to my shoulders, and now I have straight white hair with a kind of naked lunar crater on the back of my head. I am only reminded of this about 27 times a day by that unforgiving entity known as Woman. Please, girls, show a little humanity!
-
That crater is from all the women patting you on the head while saying "Hello handsome."
-
If any woman pats me on the head and says "Hello, handsome" I know she's got a credit-card reader in her handbag.
-
:D ;D :)
-
LOL - - - but true Jim!
