Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Spoilt for choice 2014

We always enjoyed Ozzie Oils in the earlier years but it was largely because Kerrie was such a good hostess, Shane and Sandra were also often around and they knew everyone and included everyone. With them and Kerrie gone it just seemed to lose its heart, Chloe tried her best but she was very young. We wish them all the best in their new ventures, it can't be easy to try to do the best by teenagers with feet in two continents.

The Night Owl is on the way from arrilas to St George bay. Its a tiny little taverna in the middle of an olive grove, its run by Linda from New York State and her Greek husband. We like the quiet and isolation, the personal service (it only seats about 20 people at the most) and we love the food. If you like BBQ you will love this, its all cooked on a grill to order and is always a very high standard. I know that hippopots is a good friend of the owners if you want a second (albeit biased) opinion. :D

I'm definitely looking forward to something off the spit at Manthos, Ozzie Oils, Yiannis and our favourite although not in San Stef The Night Owl in Afionas. We want to try the new Italian, Fantasea and return to Zorba's. We always enjoy having a mezze type meal in Olympia and we might give Nafsika another chance, last time we went it was very disappointing and to my mind overpriced.

We've always had lovely meals at Ozzy Oils and really enjoy eating there. We were always keen BBQ goers, we didn't really enjoy the quiz tacked onto the BBQ night last year though, we found it a bit too much enforced fun. We'll definitely be back for more meals in August however.

Jacksi, Thompson have recently changed the allowance from 20kgs to 15kgs for new bookings that's  probably what's confused them. I'm dreading what they'll do with our booking as I'm flying over separately 5 days early. We've told them this twice but I've still had to book an outbound seat with my name on it as we'd paid for extra legroom. I think I'll phone again and remind them just before I go.

Amanda, depending where about you are in the UK, it might be worth getting them a pool session before you come on holiday. Most Padi centres will offer this and its often free. They go to a pool somewhere and try out the equipment etc and see if they like it, it would also mean that they have some idea of what they're doing and how the kit works when they get out there.  If you say where you are I might be able to give you an idea of where to go.

Nula offers a scuba diving trip but I'm not sure where it goes. There is a PADI centre in Kassiopi which looks like a reasonable one. I'm sure they'll do some sort of try dive. We've snorkelled quite happily by the old harbour and seen a reasonable amount of life.

Like many other unselfish people on this forum we will be sacrificing our waistlines and our livers to help support the village in August.

I'm very familiar with the Manthos Taverna, but I have a sneaky suspicion there may be a subtle change this year.
What do you think `might be happening? We're another couple who love the Manthos especially on Weds and Sat for the lamb, chicken and pork on the spit. :D

We'll be returning for the fifth time this year and we must agree with many of the previous posts, adding though:
  • We always feel that the locals appreciate our custom, but are not out for all they can get from us. We had lunch in Paleo last year and were charged for every piece of bread put in front of us, every pat of butter etc
No-one looks at you wobbly white bits on the beach and sneers at them
Although everyone seems to drink a lot, there're no drunks puking in the gutters
Its very casual and informal but no one looks at you strangely when you wear your posh frock

We're inclined to agree with stressed 0506, love Ozzie oils and the menu there is great. We will definitely eat there at least once if not many more when in San Stef in August. However... and its a big however, we will probably avoid the BBQ night. We have gone to this for several years, its always been great value and a great ambiance until last season. We didn't enjoy the style of the quiz and the level of seriousness which was obviously required. A bit too much enforced fun for our liking.

We're going to try to eat in some of the tavernas we've missed in the last four visits: Fantasea and Evino's to start with.
