Title: Sidari Cheap?!!
Post by: Colin on July 15, 2009, 04:52:50 PM
Bumped into a friend of mine today who just came back on Monday from 2 weeks in Sidari, He thought it was fairly cheap to eat and drink, the least he paid for a pint was 1 euro,(local Beer) and a Steak with all the trimmings for around 6 euro, a three course meal for 2 people for around 35 euro, I only hope I find the same applies to San Stef  8)

The prices are cheaper than San Stef, or they were last week.
These were the Sidari averages:

Pint = €2
3-course meal (like Zorba's etc) = €6 - €7

The steakhouse looked great value, a 20 oz T-Bone steak for €5.50 - Bloody brilliant value.

Young Spiros at the Romanza says that most of the locals shop outside of San Stef if they can, simply because of the prices.

But hey, for us, its only for a little while.

I can confirm that Beer in Sidari varies between €1-2, usually at certain times and for draft beer.
Above prices as well, most specials vary between €6-8.
All the Supermarkets in San Stefanos are really expensive with jacked - up prices as they only usually open in the season mainly!!
Go to the Big Supermarket on the Crossroads as you head out of Sidari towards Corfu Town & shop for the week.
For example a tin of Baked Beans there is €1.20, while in S S we paid €2.60 - (yes baked beans!! - had to get them for the grandson!).
Try to take with you all your suncreams & basics for the bathroom etc. Sugar, coffee, tea, butter, all expensive!
Take salt & Pepper and a small cooking oil, ketchup it all adds up to a big bill!!
I overspent last years budget - this year by around £3-400.
I negotiated a last minute - 2 days car hire (opp. the condor), for €60, 5 seater Fiat Panda, inc child seat.

I always take our sunscreens , deodorants etc with us. This year I probably will include coffee and sugar as well.

We are with Thomsons and have 20 kilos each but will still take most of our own supplies.

We went for 3 weeks and still only took 29 kilo from a 40 allowance. This weight included books, anyone who knows me knows a voracious reader! Toiletries, gifts for friends, coffee and sun products. Half way through Lizzie and Alan from Willies Wash House collected a load of laundry by 9.30 and brought it back in pristine condition by 18.00. It is so easy to stick within weight limits!

You have never seen what Roy likes to pack then. It's a miracle I have any room for my stuff lol!!!!! Every year he says that he must take less but never does. :)

Yes I agree - Don's thongs and one shirt don't weigh much!!
Belgianram - did you pay extra? We travelled T Cook last October and it was 15Kg only,
also because I didn't book direct, they made it impossible to be able to upgrade to 20Kg.
We went with 16.5 and 18kg cases.
I chatted up the gatwick girl and got away with it - but got clobbered with a £36 "fine" on the way back.
No proper TC receipts were given out so I suspect it was a back-pocket job!

Flew with TC in June and only given 15 Kg allowance.

Flying with Thomson on MONDAY and have 20 Kg allowance.  ;D

Nope Tony, I didn't pay any extra.
I think it was due to our friend arranging everything (she's a travel agent).
We even got the exit seats (extra leg room) free of charge. As the old saying goes "it's not what you know, it who's you know".
