That is correct Waspman .. I was quoting the top whack without the commision  ;)

I still found SS Travel to be the worst rate though

Usually too much Ouzo the night before Don  :o  :D  :D

Waspee only once did I get worse than 1-20 .. and that was when it dropped to 1.18 briefly

UNLESS you were quoting SS Travels rates which were consistently the worst during the 2 weeks we were there

Our transfer back to the airport was a nightmare, bus picked us up and then PASSED the Romanza AGAIN about 90 mins later, the driver got lost (or redirected) then the coach broke down near Sidari and we had to get a replacement coach which got us to the airport about 8-40, just in time for those passengers on a Manchester flight @ 9-00pm  :o

Plenty of other guests are given the jam, but as I said it depends on your likeability.  If you didn’t get one (or three) perhaps it’s because of your outspoken attitude towards the adequate (in my opinion), continental breakfasts!!!

I DIDN'T speak out about the 'inadequate' breakfast to Katie as I know how little they are given by Thomsons ??  :-\
I doubt it was anything to do with this 'likeability' you speak of  :-\
... What meals we had otherwise  at the Romanza were great

Yannis, I understand all that you are saying, it was just the 'likeability factor' that seemed a bad choice of words. If potential customers were to read this then it could put them off booking. Hope you understand where I am coming from.

More JAM anyone  :P  ;D

The Romanza is a great place to stay and the staff are friendly even IF they do favour the regular visitors
which is understandable .. I stand by the breakfast comments but the other food they serve is great !!

Enjoy it if you go

ps: Tony I think you are telling porkies about HOW MANY you got  ::)

Waspee .. there were left overs on many many peoples plates, ESP the toast which was either barely done OR rock hard. As for Gerry, many people (like myself) agreed with what he SAID but I wasn't going to sign a silly petition about how poor the brekkie was  :-X

I was speaking to Jenny in Mythica about when she was at the Romanza and even she had heard how bad the breakfast was since her departure

I have MANY breakfasts on the continent France/Greece/Spain .. you name it and the Romanza must rank as the worst !

As I said IF it was only you and Yannis had the jars of honey (I didn't see anyone else with them) ... you musta been the BEES-KNEES  ;)

Sorry Yannis - I disagree about the 'inclusive' breakfast .. it is not good, as could be seen by
the amount of hard boiled eggs/'scrambled' egg/ham and rock hard toast that is left on peoples plates.

Yes the options that can be paid for are fine, but when the package says B&B - people don't expect to pay for a 'decent' option, the one given is very poor and needs to improve!

There were many many complaints re the standard of the breakfast .. that Gerry from Liverpool being the most vociferous

Ps: ... I didn't get any jars of honey included  :o - does that only come after your 5th visit  ;)

Euro rate varied from 1-18 .. 1-20 (less 2% commission) during the whole 2 weeks

I have to say SS Travel were offering the lowest rates almost every time I looked  :(

Where to stay / First visit to SS and Romanza hotel ...
« on: July 12, 2010, 10:50:36 PM »

Just spent 2 weeks at the Romanza Hotel during first visit to SS
Good to meet Yannis and a few others off the forum, here are my views ..

ROMANZA

Superb views
Friendly staff
Good lunchtime/evening food
Clean towels and sheets most days

Now the bad points
Breakfast is AWFUL (though I think most other hotels are similar)
Toast which is either undertoasted OR overdone and rock hard with
the scrambled egg/boiled egg/cheese & ham rotated every 3 days

The bathroom is minute with the shower leaking water all over the floor
a few days we had no hot water and had to ask them to boost the heater
I heard quite a few people say they had the same problem

Bar prices varied in costs from one day to the next

Be WARNED the walk back to the hotel is laborious and tiring late at night

San Stefanos restaurants and bars ...

IMO Mythica is the best in SS with Ozzie Oils and Little Prince being good
By far the worst IMO was the Barras restaurant and 2 stars wasn't that good either

Bar 38 ok .. never that busy tbh, the Condor is the liveliest place having live music most nights
Usually quite a few in the Athens  Bar, but maybe that was down to the World Cup being on

Would I go back to SS?? ... probably
Would I RUSH back for my next holiday ... probably NOT as there are better places in Greece

It is a quiet resort and maybe thats what people like about it, I wouldn't say it is overly pretty either

Sorry you converts .. but that is how I saw it, though I did enjoy the holiday  8)

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Money advice needed
« on: June 18, 2010, 03:26:34 PM »
Tony't right, beware of using debit cards.  There's always a heavy charge by your debit card provider for using their cards abroad, even in this country you can pay commission to buy currency if using your debit card.

The exchange rate in SS (after commission) was 1.17 yesterday, this was confirmed to me by Noula (San Stefanos Travel) so there is not a huge amount of difference between GB and San Stefanos.

My advice on earlier postings was to take one of the "no commission credit cards" ie Nationwide, Post Office etc, but beware that some restaurants/tavernas will try to charge you 2% commission, even so it's better than using a debit card and can still be better than paying by cash.

Travellers cheques are still a good idea, if you lose them you can have them replaced at short notice, with cash, once it's lost it's gone forever.

That'll do for me Wapman, ESP as the PO is only 1-16 and M&S 1-137 today
