Where to stay / Re: Travelling as a lone parent
« on: July 02, 2014, 04:33:48 PM »
Hi

Its one of the best places that you could go on your own with the kids.  Crime free and totally safe and full of lovely lovely people.

What dates in August are you there?  I'm there from 18 Aug for 2 weeks and have a 4 year old little boy :)

Hi and welcome

i have a 4 year old boy who had the best time last year.  We didnt do any of the water parks but he just loved hanging out at the Nafsika pool most days and playing in his dinghy (lightening mcqueen..!)

All the restaurants are child friendly and will do small portions for your daughter.   There is also Hippopots where she can express her creative side (on the main street just up from Condor bar on the same side of the road).

She will have a brilliant time and the beach is very child friendly and safe.

San Stefanos news and views / Flights booked :)
« on: May 29, 2014, 03:05:52 PM »
Hey :)

Flights all booked this morning after watching the Monarch site for last 4 months.....!

Prices dropped to £237 + baggage on Sunday but went on yesterday to book and flights had gone up to £400 and were not showing the flights I wanted either!!

Called Monarch in a panic and apparently its a system glitch so just booked for £237 + baggage from Gatwick on 18 Aug for 2 weeks.

Now if I can just get over this illness that's been plagueing me for past 5 months I would be really happy!  On high dose long term antibiotics to try and get rid but its a slow process and really crap living with it in the meantime :(

Hi

The weather in early May can be unpredictable.   I've been and had 25 degrees every day and not a drop of rain and I came once and had 10 days of rain.....!

I would bring a couple of jumpers and definitely a cardigan/light coat for the evenings - from what I can see their is going to be rain and thunderstorms over the weekend, but things look a lot brighter next week.

Hi

Definitely recommend Beachcomber (opposite Nafsika) and also Fantansea (past the Nafsika towards harbour).

Also Nafsika and Ozzy Oil are well worth a look.

If you go to Kassiopi I can thoroughly recommend either Janis's or Trilogia.   Trilogia is absolutely amazing with fantastic views of the bay so you won't be disappointed.  Plus they do the best tirimasu I've ever had.

Hope this helps
Sophia

Can't believe that Beachcomber hasn't gotten more of a mention - we ate there several times in August and food is amazing - especially the fish curry.

My top 3 would be:

1) Beachcomber
2) Nafsika
3) Fantasea

God, I am literally drooling now at the thought of the fish curry at Beachcomber.....roll on 18th August :)

Do you know why they have decided not to open this year?

It was so popular last year??

Just caught up on this thread and am saddened by the news that Yiannis will not be there this year!!

He was amazing with Nate my little boy last August and as a family we went there every evening after our post dinner stroll for coffee's and icecream and Nate used to go and stand with Yiannis behind the counter and generally try to wreck his shop and he never once looked annoyed and was quite taken with him.

On our last night he stood in the street and waved to Nate all the way down until we turned the corner by the bakery - will really miss them this year!!

On the positive side, I will let Nate loose in Hippopots more often this year.... :)

Received word from Spiros (bikes) this morning that George has died.

He was only the same age as me (40) so very sad indeed.

I will always remember him for his wide dazzling smile and mop of sandy hair - such a handsome young man.

RIP George.

Great idea to do this Hippopots - its' invaluable to all of us who like to know what is going on in the village.

Looking forward to seeing you again on 18th August :)

Out and About / Re: Calculating spending money

I would go with £75 a day to be honest - £50 is a little too low, but £75 is a good compromise and some days you will spend more than others so it will all even out.

I’ve been coming since I was 8 years old so literally feels like a second home to me and my family.

It’s a place that for me is forever innocent and safe and nothing bad ever happens and I feel utterly at peace there.

I completely switch off from all the troubles that worry me at home like finances, ill health and work and feel relaxed from the minute I step off the plane at Kerkyra.

I love the warmth and ambience of SS and the amazing people who live there.

I said to my husband only last weekend that the two weeks we had in SS last August were the happiest of my life I think, I was with all my family celebrating my 40th birthday and they were just two utterly magical weeks.

We are coming back on 18th August and I can’t wait

San Stefanos news and views / Fisherman George ;(
« on: February 15, 2014, 06:53:25 PM »
Hi

I had word this from friends in village that fisherman George is very very ill and is not expected to make it :(

We heard thet he was detriorating when we were over in August and we sent some fruit and old pictures of us all (with him in) up to him to let him know we were thinking of him.

We struggled to get a straight answer on his illness but allowing for translation, we understood its a motot neurone type condition.

He is only a similiar age to me and one of the sweetest and nicest men Ive had the pleasure to know.

It is in Gods hands now but I for one am praying for a miracle.

xx
