Hi all , can I ask if anyone is experiencing connection problems in the last 24 hrs? For a good while all home computers I pad I phones were unable to access - eg site not found / site moved/ URL 404. Fearful I may struggle to connect again....Is it just me?
-
Not just you, I couldn't connect last night either.
-
Had problems all morning, 07.30 to 13.00 (26/03/13), but seems OK now?
-
Problems here too
-
Had problems yesterday but all seems ok today
-
Yep had problems yesterday thought it was just me as my Laptop was playing up glad it's all sorted now. :)
-
I had problems also and scarily followed some technical instructions which made no difference at all. A great relief to find it was not only my computer!!
-
Me too!
-
Hi Gilly, all, yes I was on the verge of following some URL repair advice which looked rather too technical for me!
The worry was I had no way of checking anything out, all members who I had shared e mails with we're accessible via e mail but only via the site, which was gone! Couldn't check if it was just me. Can't recall this happening before.
-
I find these messages misleading. Past experience has taught me that this message usually means the site you want to go to is inaccessible for one reason or another! The instructions seem a bit drastic!
-
If in doubt refer to the San Stefanos Travel page on Facebook (if you are on it) and see if anyone else has posted about any problems with the site . From previous experiences when the site has gone down for whatever reason several SS regulars post about it and also post when the site is back up again.
-
Thanks Jules , that's handy to know. Cheers.

A 404 error usually means that the client (your browser) connected to the server, but the server could not link to the specified base page.
This can be caused by:
* an error by the website manager when updating the site pages
* the host ISP having set it to reject the link (bill not paid?)
* an internal error on the server, usually caused by a faulty system update
There's nothing you can about it, so don't waste time with wrong advice on the web. If you own the site, you get onto the ISP and find out what's happening.

Thanks for the advice Jimbo, will be more patient if it happens again, just realised that all e mail chains, pm's etc were reliant upon the server. Contacts with friends on the site should perhaps be backed up by other means.
-
As I have a software company, I tend to know about these things!
-
HElo everyone,
We are very sorry about this.
The company that hosts the website "has changed box and ip address of the server" .I had the same on my screen of a PC that runs permanetly conected. This the technical explanation of the problem that we recently had.
I emailed the hosting company and I got this reply two minutes later.
some times this is how internet works ...what can I say...
However, the website server keeps a back up every 24 hours so if anyting happens there is no much to be lost.
Kalispera!

Many thanks Dimitris, I will be far more patient if this happens again! cheers.

Usually the hosts will notify customers in advance so that the domain servers (global systems that turn human readable things like sanstefanos.co.uk into an actual IP address that looks like 195.234.5.167) can be updated. I don't think that was very good service.
Mind you, my business partner and buddy Dean could not access our website from Essex last week for 24 hours. I said I'd put a taste filter on.
To go off topic - I've had an anxious day. Dean spent nine hours in surgery today for a heart valve replacement. I'm massively relieved to say that he's now in Intensive Care and the surgeon says that it's been successful. These things do remind us that a few hours off-line is a mere irritation compared to the more significant issues of losing friends and loved ones before their time.

Glad to hear your friend is doing OK Jimbo,of course this puts issues such as differing opinions on a holiday forum into a sharp perspective. It's just human nature to have a moan and vent ones spleen from time to time, this forum provides a safe place to do this. I do feel forum members know what's really important in life and I'm sure we all wish your friend an uneventful and speedy recovery.
