« on: May 20, 2009, 08:08:32 PM »
We met some people (Ian & Julie from Norfolk), in Dalyan last year, Dalyan being a touch similar to SS, They were return Dalyan visitors!
I Got a surprise email today from them today from the Barras - -
I will copy/paste it below for you to read - I think it's really nice!!

a special hi to you tony and linda and A BIG THANK YOU FOR RECCOMMENDING THIS SUPER PLACE!!   soon be your turn!

hi everyone. we are in barras appartments in centre of village on a junction. its great, we can lie near pool people watching! we HAVE been energetic too - saturday (or was it sunday, too much oozo dulling the senses) walked uphill to next little village slightly inland. about 5k, also been to a gym in another hotel. hired a car for 2 days, visited agios georgios.
You went with some of your children - remember?
ian recognised the waiter in the alkyon. place is run down now. also drove to ag. gordis - our honeymoon place - this is tourist/pricey - found the lil footpath where ian and some woman we had met went scrumping for grapes 3 am! needless to say they were caught in the act!!??? roads are still as they were in 1991 patchwork of potholes/repairs and grit. drove to the highest point on corfu and along the north coast lovely. we will go for walk later today, white cliffs in distance look inviting. Think we are the only people that have not been here b4. THAT SAYS IT ALL, IT REALLY IS UPSPOILT compared with other places we saw in car.
Food of course is still bril we are sticking to the 'specials' so we can taste all there is on offer! hope all is ok with everyone love you lots  julie (im sure ian sends his love - he's reading/asleep? on a sunbed - i just had to get out of the sun for a few mins!!
Love Julie xxxxx

BEFORE THE BBQ SEASON BEGINS FOR THIS YEAR  - A FEW GUIDELINES AND TIPS FOR THE MAN OF THE HOUSE
BECAUSE _ THERE IS NO PLEASING A WOMAN!!!
New Standard Operating Procedures released today --  please learn
BBQ RULES We are about to enter the BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity . When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:
Routine...
(1) The woman buys the food.
(2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert.
(3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to
the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand.
(4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly
Bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman.
Here comes the important part:
(5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.
More routine...
(6) The woman goes inside to organise the plates and cutlery.
(7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he flips the meat
Important again:
(8) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.
More routine...
(9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table.
(10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.
And most important of all:
(11) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts.
(12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed ' her night off ', and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women.

Airlines - we know they have to make a profit - it's a business of course, but don't you hate the subterfuge.
Shame on you Airlines - you have more Spin than Mandleson & Brown!!
You give a price, then we have to pay for loads of extra's - which are not really extra's!!
1) To Sit together, this is a joke!! everyone should boycott this one and not pay the stupid charge.
We never pay it and always still sit together.
2) Meals, your choice really, but most economy flights serve rubbish on short flights - we always buy an M&S sandwich etc.
On one thompson's flight, they didn't want to take away the rubbish from our own food, (snotty cabin staff), so I took it to the
galley and gave it over anyway!!
3) Luggage Allowance, all Airlines should give a Minimum of 20Kgs, anything less for the average family or couple is silly.
Thomas Cook only allowed us 15Kg, last late Summer, and made it impossible to "buy" a larger amount.
Everyone then got caught at the Airport on the return flight and were "Blackmailed" into paying large amounts or dump your stuff!!
Shame on Thomas Cook - this does not make me want to spend more money with them, on what was otherwise a great flight.

OK - they are my main 3 gripes - What are your's?????????
Also what are different Cheapie Airlines like - e.g. EasyJet, Ryanaire, etc. etc.

Out and About / What would you like to see on the beach this year!!
« on: March 11, 2009, 05:05:56 AM »
The last couple of years I have been suffering from back-ache (occasional Trapped Nerve), after the journey and lugging suitcases around.
So I am hoping that the Chinese Masseuse is back on the beach!
He walks up and down with a ""Chinese Massage"" card.
I tried him after I saw Capt. Nikos slip and hurt his knee on his boat.
He could barely walk, and had been in pain for a few hours, but this guy fixed it in 20 mins!!
The point is he fixes my backache better than my Osteopath with just one (or two) sessions, and helps me have a pain free holiday!!
(Yes I know I am getting old and falling to bits!! - - - - before you all tell me!!). LOL

What else would you like to see - for instance  - - Water Melon sellers? (better for you than doughnuts!!).

San Stefanos news and views / Your Pet "Hates" in San Stefanos!
« on: March 05, 2009, 11:02:41 AM »
Ok - New Thread for you!
Your Pet "Hates" in San Stefanos! - There surely can't be many in this Paradise on Earth!!

My pet hate - to start off on a controversial note - -
is People who Smoke on a Restaurant table when others around are still eating.

The continentals & eastern europeans, are the worst for this, having finished eating their own meals,
they then light up and allow their smoke to waft on to me!

I remember a table of women (who by the way - are much worse than the men!!), who chain-smoked,
(the resulting fumes gathering like a factory chimney), and were blown by the wind over my table.
All this while I was tring to eat a sizzling steak in the Little Prince, gasping for breath in between eating.
So if that was you and you read this, it was rude - please consider the other tables in future!!
There - thats now off my chest!!

Which Resturaunt gives you a Complimentry Drink after your Meal?
Good question I think - Most is my answer - what is your experience?

Two Stars - always give a drink after the evening Meal.
The Havana Beach Bar always give us a "cocktail-shot" after lunch there.

San Stefanos news and views / What should you not Forget this Year!!
« on: February 17, 2009, 09:44:57 PM »
Hi all - I read Don's Comments under broken links, and I think it would be good to put it up here as well.
Don's comments certainly made us think and check things out. - Thanks for this to DON.

Don't forget to check that your Passport has not run OUT!! That it is Valid for 6 months when you travel.
As Don said - so many times it happend at Airports - people sent home.

Also don't forget your Insurance - just in case!!

Don't forget to register here either - you need a health card which replaces the E111 form:

So what else should we take?????

Out and About / The Golden Beach at San Stefanos
« on: February 16, 2009, 05:25:17 AM »
Ok - new thread.
We think the beach at San Stefanos is one of the best anywhere, yes I know Caribbean Beaches can be prettier,
white sand and palm trees, but this beach must be one of the most informal, safe, clean beaches around.

So my question is - which part of the beach is your favourite - where do you plonk yourself and why???

We tend to go somewhere near the middle, in good reach of most facilities, but usually because we get our Beach Beds from a friend.

San Stefanos news and views / Avliotes - who has tried out the village.
« on: February 14, 2009, 08:58:28 PM »
Just a thought - I remember with great fondness, about 15 years ago now, being invited to Nikos's (of Golden Beach), house in the village.
Looking fairly ordinary on the outside, in the main street - it was spectacular inside, full of marble, Italian furniture and great views to the rear. After some nibbles, we went to a local taverna overlooking what used to be an almost triangular piece of land, (it now houses a lovely bandstand).
In this piece of land was a kind of gravel football pitch - with just one goal at the wide end.
We watched the local kids play a game while we ate, they had an understanding - their own kind of rules, and shared the goal.
Great fun to watch and the meal was both v/cheap and v/v/good.
I can't remember the name of this Taverna, above what is now the bandstand, does anyone remember what it's called?
Also does anyone remember the strange football pitch from years ago?
