Title: Change in the beach
Post by: joan on September 07, 2009, 12:33:04 AM
Have returned from another enjoyable holiday in SS, there are some changes out and about particularly the beach at the far end. It now has separated from the main area and the original shelf has eroded away and there are large pieces of the ledge scattered in the sea, to get over to it now you have to scrabble over a very small ledge or walk through the water which was about knee high depending on the way the currents run - previously it was too deep in this area to walk. The pebbles have washed down and this part is now very sandy and water appeared to be a lot warmer than in previous years, so if you are going down that end it may be a good idea to wear water shoes and be prepared for a bit of a climb.

We noticed that - and much more sand and now much wider under the cliffs in the "nudie" section.
It was caused by the severe storms in the winter.
Arillas also lost most of it's beach leaving only a small strip of sand - such a shame!!

There have been a  number of rock falls as well - so be careful. Some tourists were lucky and had just moved about a minute before some rocks fell where they had been.

Looking at the top of the cliffs it did look quite dodgy I'm not surprised there were rockfalls I often think that those trees are just hanging on by the skin of their teeth and will topple some time soon.

Don - of course they do - ever seen an olive tree do the evil grin at you,
and an olive tree has your skin type and colour - - -LOL
of course they may be hanging on by the bark of their sap, but it just doesn't have the same ring to it!! LOL
