Where to stay / Re: Mythos Apartments - anyone stayed there this year?
« on: October 22, 2011, 07:35:51 PM »
Meg, I've only just read your post from September about the condition of Mythos this year and I think you've hit the nail on the head.  At the beginning of July we had to ask Dimitri (Grandad) to cut the grass near our studio as it was at least 8 - 9 inches high and I didn't like walking through it with bare feet (a small bottle of ouzo sealed the deal!).  Could not fault the cleanliness of the studio we were in but the pool was not great.  Although it was actually cleaner than in 2010 because the pump was on more often it still left a lot to be desired.

We got the feeling that they were trying to cut corners to save costs, especially with electricity and it was a little off-putting (and some of the guests staying at the same time as us got quite upset) to have Dimitri going round telling off people for leaving lights on when not necessary.

Having said the above, the apartments are still possibly the best I have ever stayed in in Greece and the shower is to die for!  However, we have decided not to return there in 2012 and will be returning to St George South instead.  I really hope they get these little problems sorted out because it's a fantastic set of apartments which I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone!

Perhaps someone who knows the owners could tell

Meg, the new top section of the studio apartments is not yet finished but they are not working on them at the moment.  Doesn't look a lot different from last year except the roof is squared off, instead of rounded.

To answer the query about where Thos Cook are sending their overbookings from Mythos, when we were there a couple had been put in accommodation in Arillas which they did not like, I'm not sure exactly where they ended up after complaining!

Yes it has been extremely hot.  We had decided to do without aircon this year but would have succumbed this week had we been able to track the owner down to get it connected! :'(

Two Stars
Paradise
Little Prince
Mythica
Mistral (??)
Ozzy Oils
Olympia

Not a bad meal at any of them, some better than others and I have to agree the kleftico at Paradise was fantastic.  Anyway, washed down with a couple of bottles of retsina they all tasted great! ;D

We have just returned from 11 nights at Mythos and I'm pleased to report they are just as good as last year.  It looks like the family may even be extending the apartments as they have built up the 'curved' areas on top of the two ground floor apartments so maybe next year there will be additional accommodation.

The pool was much cleaner this year as Dimitris put the pump on more regularly to clear out the drowned flies and bird poo!  :)

There was one instance of overbooking whilst we were there so they really need to get themselves sorted out with Thomas Cook or it could be a regular occurance next year!

For those who have not stayed there yet, it is a beautiful tranquil location which gives the feeling you are staying in a villa with your own private pool as it never gets crowded.

Just to clarify the Thos Cook deal for Mythos Apartments 2012 does contain luggage allowance of 15Kg.  But they are charging a whopping £42 extra for two persons to add an additional 5Kg each!  Much more than for this year.

Denise, this was our first year in San Stef and we were hooked within hours of getting there!  Having previously stayed in Roda, Ag Spiridon and St George South, amongst others, we have alread booked to return next year.  We are staying at Mythos Apartments, same as this year.  I am sure you will love the whole of Corfu, it keeps drawing so many people back, year after year.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Where we ate
« on: September 19, 2010, 07:46:22 PM »
Speaking as a newbie to San Stef, we didn't have a completely bad meal in all our 10 days there.  The first night we ate at 2 Stars, Richard chose kleftico and was very disappointed.  However, whatever I had (can't remember back to July) was good.  We also ate at Little Prince (v.good), Zorbas (nice) Mythica (OK) and Ozzy Oils (fantastic ambience and different to the usual greek taverna)  There were a couple of other places we ate which I can' remember names of.

As already said, we didn't have a bad meal all holiday (kleftico excepted but Richard is very difficult to please and judges a restaurant by how they do theirs!)

Next year we will definitely return to Ozzy Oils, Little Prince and Mythica, but there were so many other places we didn't get to try. Roll on July 2011!

I just took a look at the Thos Cook website and for the first 2 weeks Sept 2011 you can currently book both Kapetanios and Mythos.

Well, in spite of the dead flies and bird poo we've just booked Mythos for next July! ;D ;D  We decided the positives far outweighed the negatives and can't wait.  On well,  ony 317 sleeps to go!

Well!  In spite of the dead flies and bird poo, Richard loved staying at Mythos so much we are seriously thinking about returning there next year!  This from the man who only a few days ago said he was "out-Greeced" and wanted to try somewhere completely different!  What a turnaround - result!

Helen, are you talking about those yummy round pittas that seemed to be served everywhere this year with starters?  :P We'd never had them before and would love to get our hands on some - shame we don't live anywhere near Liverpool!

Gillywoo, I agree the old gentleman did a fantastic job every morning cleaning out the pool.  The water was clear and not murky, apart from the usual 'oil slick' from sun protection, but I've seen this in nearly every pool I've been in over the last 10 years!

My gripe is that the filter was not kept going to circulate the water thereby removing the flies, etc.

However, this is a minor point about the apartments.  Otherwise they were thoroughly fantastic and I would recommend them to anyone wanting a quiet base for their holiday.
