Title: Eating away from Agios Stefanos
Post by: benson on April 19, 2013, 07:40:27 PM
With all the fabulous places to eat in Agios Stefanos we very rarely venture too far out.

We do go to a couple of nearby places however.

1) Afionas - Worth going for the views but I don't believe the food to be that great, just ok but not what we're all used to in Agios Stefanos.

2) Avliotes - There is a small Italian / Pizza place. It's run by 2 brothers. It's really good and also has nice views over the valley. Sorry but I can't remember the name. We usually take a scooter up there have a slow lunch and then go on to Sunset Beach in Peroulades for a cold beer (ok 5 beers) whilst sitting on the giant swings.

So where is your favourite place for a nice lunch?

Here are the ones I'll be frequenting (In no particular order):

Gravia
Akrotiri
Havanna
Mango
Waves

Brouklis Taverna in Arillas takes some beating for good Greek food.

I personally love the seafood spaghetti at the Waves, ask Angelos for a little extra fresh chilli for more of a kick.

I'll be renting a car for a few days this year and intend to sample Dionysos, Brouklis and one or two more away from SS.

Last year, we loved Brouklis in Arillas and The NIght Owl in Afionas, both definitely on our list for this year. We ate at a place called the Three Brothers in Kasiopi which we enjoyed. We enjoyed the view from the harbourside taverna in Kaloura but it was very epensive and some of the other diners were loud and obnoxious - especially to the staff, it was also very expensive.

I have remembered!  It was taverna called Mon Amour and there is a you tube video of travelling from Arillas to Kavadades and this taverna - good reviews

Mon Amour is a lovely Greek Restaurant, specialising in BBQ type cooking, we went there again last year and it was great, and a touch authentically rustic.

We stayed in Kassiopi for a change 3 years ago and loved it (its my second favourite place after SS) and we ate at Trilogia a few times and the location and food were absolutely first class.

Bit more expensive than Janis' or 3 brothers for example for a special night out its definitely worth it.

I turn 40 when I am over in August and we are going to Trilogia for lunch and then back to SS and Nafsika for dinner in the evening to celebrate in style - I think Spiros would not be happy if I went anyway else for dinner on my big day......   I celebrated my 10th and 16th birthdays at the Nafsika so its kind of traditional for us   ;)

Brouklis has some great reviews - might break my "Arillas is just for Germans" rule and give it a go.

It's well worth a visit benson, but in the evening you may have to book.

We like to walk over to Arriles and have lunch in Armourada. It's a family run Restaurant/Taverna.Mother does the cooking and also runs

the small supermarket across the road. They grow a lot of their own produce so the salads and vegetables are really fresh.

It,s unsophisticated and the family are friendly and welcoming, the sort of place where you can sit and watch the world go by while

enjoying a good meal.

Amourada is a fantastic place - great family - no problems you can blob out under their vines and watch the world go by . The food is very traditional and cooked by mother . You really must give it a visit if you wander to Arillis

Mon Amour is the most traditional taverna that I have ever eaten in.  The food is divine, as is the home made wine and 'special' Ouzo  ;)  It's lovely to go there in a group of diners, but not as easy for a single traveller.  I guess I won't be visiting them in June :(
