Could someone please explain about "wristbands" and bars? - have noticed one or two comments about them.
I assume they work abit like a/i in hotels?
We have 4 x twenty somethings with us so if we can save some cash by being loyal to someone we will!
Really liked the Athens bar last year but like the sound of Bar 38/Aquarios too!
Looking fwd to exploring more this year!
Thanks all
Helen

Ok - The wristbands are not for discount, just to I.D. forum members so you can say Hi!!!
Get one from Glen in Aquarios bar, do it up so you can slip it off again
(fasten over wide bit of your hand - they stretch a little bit only),
so you don't have to wear it all the time.
See a wristband - say hello and make a new friend!
Lots of Bars to choose from, my guess is you'll prefer Athens Bar, Condor, Bar38 as more lively!
No Discounts though!!
PS. My Mum was a Cornish Girl, born in St Austall, raised in St Germans.

Ok
Thanks Tony! St Germans is just round the corner - we know it well!

How could we ever forget Jerry James !!!

I wish and I try.................. Any tips out there?

Jerry James, Old comedians and singers never die, they just work 3 nights a week at Silver Star,
and don't the old folks love it!! LOL
-
Gerry James was a complete joke and turned this little corner of a beautiful Greek Island into the worst seedy little UK social club one can ever imagine. He played all the wrong chords with his backing tracks. His patter to the punters was awful and to walk past there while he was murdering some tune or other was a nerve shattering experience. Surely there are Greek musicians around who would have been better suited to entertain than this piece of crap. Or is the owner hoping to get in the sausage egg and chips Brit tourists which he thinks might be in S.S. and thrive on this load of wallop... Sad really... :(
-
Have to agree Deerocker - JJ - a truly dreadful 'act' - time to be pensioned off, me thinks! ;D
-
Oh my god Gerry James..........he did our brains in!!! Who told him he can sing??? Does anyone remember him in the 60s, because thats all he kept saying...."when i was in the charts in the 60s".....the worse part was one night I wanted to go back to the room about midnight and he was serenading me to sleep I swear, cos we were staying at the Barras I SWEAR he was at the end of my bed, he sounded sooo close!!! >:(
-
We also crossed the road when this singer was on, terrible. I can understand the slight amusement as you first hear him but eventually you just had to make a run for it. The strange thing is, the place was packed when he was on (mainly the blue rinse squad mind). ;)

Sorry ....... Shell found this and couldn't resist! LOL............ He does have a fan then?
-
According to Jerry, he played with every band that were recording in the 1960's. Someone said that if you remember the 60's then you were not there. Well I was there and I am pleased to say I don't remember Jerry James. Thank god. When he is on at the Silver Star We don't venture that far up the village. I just hope he does not venture any further either Summed up in three words
(What a Ponker)

I thinkit was a wednesday night and Jerry wasn't on. Silver Star was packedout and doing a roaring trade.
Meanwhile across the road Bar El Greco was empty apart from the staff, family and Groucho. That guy can really play a guitar. Back to the point. All the customers in Silver Star were turned facing across the road and being well entertained at someone else's expense. There is a lesson in there!
-
Thanks Sandra, The El Greco it is for me. We are there again in August .We used to go in the Bar Code which was over the road from the Silver Star. Is this now the El Greco and if so are they new ownwers
-
It is the old Bar Code and is still the brainchild of George.
-
Thanks, We used to go in there last year and George tried to play music but the raving loonatic was performing over the road so in the end he turned the music off. Is George still there.

Used to be a waiter at Thomas Bay. His brother is Tasty Corner proprietor.
-
Yes - I know him well! Thanks

The Greco did the best cocktails in the resort in my opinion. The bloody marys were excellent and once he knew how we liked them (lots of tabasco and worcester sauce) they were perfect each time we dropped in. He loves his bike does'nt he? :D
-
Do you know what nights Groucho is on?

I am sure that no-one means to be malicious or insulting. This is a friendly forum where people have a bit of banter. and share information. I am sure that Gerry has his fans and will continue to entertain them, but we don't all have the same taste in music. I would not worry too much about what people say. Hope you continue to be part of the forum. Yammas

oh nooo....here we go again.....another thread......thats going to rear off the scale!
Sorry to offend naughty....no malicious intent was intended!
It was just one of the many incidents in S.S that made the holiday a holiday to remember for all the right reasons :). Lots of funny situations, bizarre scenarios, irritating moments, lovely lazy days and thoughts of tried it, done it, never again moments all add to the great holiday memories Ive brought back with me to the U.K :) although maybe I would have been happier falling asleep to The Carnivals rendition of rocking in the free world lol! ;)
-
Likewise from me as well - I am afraid, I am also not into that kind of act, but he works the crowd well.
I am sure Jerry has worked some real tough places and clubs in his time, so this place is a piece of cake for him.
He has as many fans as not! I bet he now gets extra people curious to check him out!
I am sure he would laugh it off and say any publicity is good publicity, like all the troopers do!
Again - he's part of the holiday experience and part of San Stefanos!
-
Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!!! :)
Well we love San Stef and we love Jerry James. OK, so his act is a little cheesy and the banter is pretty much the same each night, but whenever he's on at the Sliver Star, Spiros and Tassos usually struggle to find enough seats for every one. So, he's definitely doing something right when most other live acts attract quite small audiences. If he's not your bag then you don't have to stop and listen, but more people do than walk past. Mind you it must be difficult to ignore him if you have a room at the Barras and don't like him. Maybe earplugs would be a wise choice.
We're looking forward to at least a couple of 'Jerry Nights' at the end of August, they're usually followed the next day by a substantial breakfast at the Condor to help with the head!! Hopefully we'll catch up with Jerry and some of his family again during and after the shows. They're a lovely bunch.
So, one more time: "Take me home, country road, to a place I belong......." ;D
