My last post on this subject is .about a year after i has give up the dreaded weed we went to a wedding party in the evening.as usual there was some buffet left over, my son was given some gateaux and butties to bring home with him.The following day he wanted his gateaux after his dinner, no problem. So as you do i took a small sample, it was disgusting. Was like eating an ashtray, with it standing for the evening in the room with all the cig smoke. So i am in full favour of no smoking where food is involved, and that there is no smoking in public places.

I was a heavy smoker 20 years ago.I gave up when my son had developed asthma at the age of 5.It was one of the best things i ever did, not only for my son but also my own health.Im not an anti smoker as i know how much i enjoyed a fag after a meal or with a pint.I just think its curtious to have a smoke away from the area where people are eating.

Hey lesley your doing a good job to convince us to join the fun.can't wait.the festival I remember most in avliotis was held in the centre of the village down on the right by the bandstand.think it was september time.we was invited to eat with the family from romanza at the house of old mr costas, helens father.we sat out on his terrace and ate while we watched the entertainment.was a few years ago.

There is one place that beats all the places to eat in SS.
Its not available every evening and is in Avliotis.
Lesley might be able to help here,Its a festival evening, around end of july begining of august.Think its for Maria, or Name day?
If you like lamb, its to die for.you buy it by the kilo, and get what your given.Ther old guy chops it up on a wooden board, dont stand too close or you will get splattered. Also superb souvlakis cooked fresh on the bbq.Normally a stall selling like doughnuts but without jam, just a ball of dough, served with chocolate sauce or powder sugar.A big bar selling the all important liquid refreshments and a couple of stalls selling things for the kids.
Its not somthing done for the tourists, its traditional. You will be made to feel very welcome and can sit at ease amongst the olive trees, listen to the live music and let time pass you by.
We normally go by Quadbike from Spiros, if you ask he will rent you one just for the evening, cost 5 euro, well worth it i think.  Oh and dont be worried about mosquitoes, they say they dont hand around the olive trees.never had a problem.

Hi Rover, sorry i went a bit off track.Never had a problem with vine leaves (Dolmades) when i have been in SS. What i do notice is their shape, pretty uniform now as when i first visited in 91 they where all different shapes and sizes.Meaning at first i think they were hand made, now i think they are from a tin.  Still pack a good taste though.
