San Stefanos news and views / Re: Just returned
« on: August 04, 2013, 03:42:48 PM »
Returned late Friday night just like Chrissie D after another excellent 2 weeks in San Stef.

Our review for what its worth.

This was our 10th visit and our 7th on the bounce at the Fedra. Quiet 1st week and a noisier 2nd week when a big wedding party arrived. A few issues with that but not for comment here.

Lovely weather as usual with a breeze in the first week that kept things bearable though that disappeared in the middle weekend which left it feeling very hot indeed. The breeze returned though to round off an excellent fortnight.

Mozzies - didn't have a single bite between the 3 of us which is a record. Viva Autan I say.

Eating out - didn't have one bad meal thoughout the fortnight though our experience at the Olympia was not what it was previously - ate there 4 times last year but only twice this. Not sure what was different but there was something not quite right. Gave Yiannis grill a try for the fist time and was very impressed. Will be going back next year.

Zorba's was great but they now do 6 dances and when busy that makes for a delay in serving though as you're on holiday you can take it. May be worth bearing in mind if you have young kids though.

Unfortunatley we do have a few issues with the resort this year (our view only).

First up the rubbish collection. I can't comment on the whole of the resort but from the Fedra to Zorba's there was not one occasion when all the bins had been emptied despite seeing the waste collectors on 5 seperate occasions. There are green and blue bins which aren't all emptied at the same time. This was plain to see outside the Margarita's supermarket when it wasn't until our last day that all the bins had been cleared. It was at best unsightly and at worst smelly. There wasn't a strike like a few years ago which may have explained things so there must be a problem with the local authorities.

Our second issue is the noise level around the main road. On numerous occasions during the fortnight there were acts on at the Condor, Bar 38, Thomas Bay and Acabar at the same time with their music turned up very loud. Throw in the increased volume at Zorba's when they dance and it was difficult to hear yourself think as you waled around. I actually saw Spiro put his bar music up when the Condor act started.

What happened to a more balanced approach to acts to avoid this kind of thing. As a result we intended to stay down the old part of time after eating. Sad because I really like Bar 38 and that area.

Overall we had a great time and have booked to go back next year already.

Yammas.

10% as a general rule but it often depends on what notes I have (10s, 20 50 euro notes) and how much the bill is in comparison to that. I leave as cloase as I can to 10% sometimes a little more and sometimes a little less.

4 more sleeps......only 4 more sleeps  Yippee. I should be mature I know but hey when my mate and reached 40 we decided that all future birthdays we would take a year off so I'm 27 going on 26.

Be at the Fedra by about 9.30 this Friday evening Greek time.

Even though its very hot here its a different kind of heat over there which I'm really looking forward to. Zorba's, Olympia, Little Prince, Beachcomber, Manthos to name but a few and will be booking for next year when we're there.

All,

Mythos2 said in an earlier thread (dated 6th July) that there were people wearing coats in the evening because of the chill. Is it that chilly there? We come out on 19th and I don't intend to pack any coats or cardigans as I've never had to. According to the weather its around 20/21 degrees in the evenings at present. Surely thats too warm for a coat. Isn't it?

The Fedra has studio's for 550 euros a fortnight high season though they were offering a week in May this year for 130 euros - thats v good. Right by the beach and extremely firendly. Great place. Agree with Jimbo though most independant places are welcoming of single travellers.

Where to stay / Re: Fedra Mare

Totally agree Googleberry

I'm a regular (this will be our 7th visit next month) and I've often had to take the weeks that were available to us as it does get booked up very quickly. Many people, us included, book for the following year when there. We'll be hoping to do so this year but accept that with so many regulars and newbies to accomodate we may be disappointed.

If you read the reviews for the Fedra on Tripadvisor you will see that comments relating to last summer are mosty from new customers. So its not all regulars, not by any stretch of the imagination.

They are without doubt the best apartments and best owners in the resort. Love the place and Hari and Dimi. Will be back for our 10th stay at the Fedra on 19th July.

San Stefanos news and views / Okay! What's new?
« on: June 11, 2013, 12:38:44 AM »
Hi all,

It seems that quite are few people have been and gone already and I was wondering what's changed, what's new and what's gone, for example:-

is the Sunset still open?
what about Bar38?
I know there's a new place where Mamma Mia's (not sure of its name) used to be but what about anywhere else?
Are Zorba's, Little Prince, Beachcomber, Olympia (our fav places) still open.

5 weeks this Friday and we'll be there. Oh heck can't wait. Its ridiculous. I'm a grown man for flip sake.

Dibully,

If you don't get a response ring them on the number at the bottom of the attached. They're very helpful.

I've been using this for a number of years as it shows the temperature at regular intervals actually in San Stef - show it says (half-way down the righthand side). It seems accurate.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Best Fry-up .

Back in 2007 we stayed at the Delfino Blu and though I've had breakfast in many places, all good, the Delfino Blu was unbelievable. The whole thing from the choice of cereals, fruit, different fresh breads for toasting, jams, marmalades, fruit juices all the way up to the fried goodies was fantastic. As much as you could eat as well as we were B&B.

Quality.
