San Stefanos news and views / Had to cancel....gutted
« on: April 22, 2015, 04:59:19 PM »
Hi all. Been meaning to write this update for a few months now but kept putting it off as its still very frustrating/disappointing.

Back in November last year we had to cancel our yearly 2 week stay at the Fedra due to a conflict of money interest. We had water coming into the garage so I replaced the roof which wasn't cheap but it was manageable. This unfortunately hasn't solved the problem which meant house roof repairs. As a public servant with a 2 year pay-freeze plus 3 years below inflation pay rises in the last 5 years things are tight and one thing had to go........the holiday or the roof. So a no brainer in the end.

For my sanity I should stop looking at this forum but the draws too strong. Continuing to do so is a form of mental self-harm.

Anyway hope to get back there next year especially as we've just received a 0.5% pay rise.   :-\

Well Cheddar your picture/moniker takes me back. As a 19 year old having just watched Madness on Top of the Pops in 1979 singing The Prince I was doing that dance around my living room. Went and bought One Step Beyond straightaway and a long-time love affair was born.

Great to see.

I'm sorry to say much of this isn't new to San Stef. Last year when I wrote my review of our holiday I drew reference to the battle for supremacy between the bars on the main road as to who could be the loudest. Between Bar38 and 2Stars it was awful. each place having their chosen style of music as loud as bearable. We struggled to have a conversation sitting on the Bar38 decking it was that bad.

I'm not sure what the owners of these places are trying to achieve by doing this but it alienates a lot of people who then choose to stay down the old end or retire early to their digs for a few bevvies (not easy to do if you're staying in the centre though I appreciate that).

All sounds a tad unsavoury to me. Why can't people rub along? Why have the music so loud that 3 separate places complain? Beats me.

What's the matter with you Waspman? Didn't you have enough rain over the winter months? 10 days of little or no rain and everyones starts to worry. Enjoy it. You'll be up to your waist in water before you know it.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: ozzy oils
« on: June 18, 2014, 01:44:08 AM »
A couple of years ago we went to Ozzy Oils for a meal but didn't like the menu and have never been back since. Can't put my finger on why really but if I was pressed I would say we prefer the old part of the village.

Good point Waspman. Getting more euros here means I have more to spend over there.

I'll think I'll go for it.

I looked at booking our seats as we did last year just after the 90 day mark but all the extra leg room seats were taken for the both the outward and inward journey's. That being the case I'll just take my chances when I check-in on-line and get the seats allocated.

One thing....... our original booking was for a 5.30am flight. That is now showing as 5am on their website but I haven't had notification of the change. Lucky I checked really though a 30 minute change wouldn't have been a problem I suppose.

I hate airlines I do....

5 weeks Friday 5am flight from Bristol. Should be having a beer and one of Hari's brilliant tuna salads by midday. Thank god the world cup's starting as I don't think I could stand the wait.

TravelFX are offering 1.22e to the £ as of today which may or may not increase a little as the £ continues to rise against the Euro. My question is what's the rate in San Stef at present pre the 2% commission reduction?

I'm travelling in 4 weeks but looking at purchasing some extra euro's this week if the rate isn't as competative as TravelFX.

Much appreciated.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / The Sunset
« on: May 06, 2014, 12:11:58 AM »
The Sunset has always been a popular choice with my family but over the recent years we've seen the volume of trade dropping off resulting in them only doing snacks etc last summer. Does anyone know if they'll be open this year and if so doing what?

It would be great if the predicted upturn in visitors mentioned on some other threads filtered through to the Sunset. Always a great welcome and lovely Sofrito.

Much appreciated

Always an interesting debate.

Always like Olympia but it was decidely average last year (2013). Can't quite put my finger on it but it certainly wasn't as good as 2012. Will still give it a try though this year.

Little Prince always good for atmosphere etc though comes a distant second best to the Beachcomber when it comes to the food. One thing I do like about the LP is the variety of meals compared to most places.

I do like Zorba's which is probably a combination of lots of things, food, atmosphere etc. I also miss the Sunset who did the best Kleftico in the village me thinks.

Tried Yiannis last year for the first time and was very impressed, will definately be back again this year. I don't get the fuss about Nafsica which will make me very popular......not. Only tried 2Star once and it was pretty good. I love Manthos and everything it/he brings to your holiday. Especially at lunchtime when having a quiet beer with some lovely mixed starters....heavenly.

Either lets hope for a good year especially as holiday numbers to Greece were up last year. lets hope San Stef gets its share.  :) :)

An update on my initial post. My son had his practical today and it went exceptionally well. The teacher thought the meat was a little too pink for their liking (personal cjoice - seemed fine to me) but the rest was marvellous. He's looking at a mark of around 75% which ain't bad.

The Loucamades went down a storm. None left, so I don't get any. Not happy.

One stressful son now lying on his bed chilling.

Hey folks don't get me wrong if the euro was 1 to 1 with the £ I would still go. I just wondered if there had been any impact thats all. As I said, but misspelt it, I was bored and had just read an article about it. Would never criticise San Stef as I/we love the place.

Without wishing to spoil it I wish more and more people would go there.....it still wouldn't be too crowded, businesses would thrive and life for all would be better.
