You will be well looked after at The Little Prince, we're on our fourth visit in June! I think you'll be on the first floor as I believe the upper levels are booked out to TUI Nordic. Enjoy.

Our local recording station is on the outskirts of Edinburgh and is currently -11. no wonder I felt frozen waiting for a bus tonight. June and San Stef feel a long way away!!!

Lofty, I agree with you, as long as the pilot can find Corfu, I'll be happy. The outside toilet might be a bit draughty though!

From a very snowy Edinburgh tonight.

San Stefanos news and views / Booked for 2011
« on: November 26, 2010, 08:04:48 PM »
Just booked our next two weeks(4th time) in our own version of Paradise. Flying out a week later on Friday 3rd June. Little Prince booked again through Thomsons but going from Edinburgh this time rather than Glasgow. Flight is 06:00 out getting in to Corfu 11:35, back from Corfu 12:35. Airport is only 20 mins from home, we'll save on petrol, parking and overnight stay in Glasgow. Flight in previous years has been 06:40.

Thomsons brochure says flight is by Monarch but came up as British European when booked. Don' know them but hopefully all will be well.

Edinburgh is v. cold today with snow forecast so booking has lifted our spirits a bit. Already looking forward to seeing friends in the village and of course the odd Mythos or two :)

The road to Arillas is indeed bad this year and you should drive over it with extreme care. The condition of the roads on the island had worsened in general this year and they do always seem to be better to the south of Corfu Town, there is a north/south divide on the island!

That said, getting around is quite easy and once you're used to it you'll start to enjoy the driving. Take care going through villages as roads can narrow without much warning and you can easily meet a coach or a truck coming the other way. Why would you want to rush anyway as there's so much to see. There are petrol stations close by, one either side of Avliotes for starters but petrol this year was expensive, around 1.60 euros a litre and not necessarily cheaper towards Corfu Town. Prices in June.

We also hired a car this year from SS travel and the car came from the car rental place in the centre of the village which we have also used before. Absolutely no problems with the cars on any of our visits.

Should have said that signposts can sometimes be a bit elusive if you're heading towards Corfu Town, not bad heading back north. Buy a good map at the paper shop beside Teresa's shop as the one supplied with the car lacks a bit of detail. Also the main thing to watch out for is potholes as some of these can be on the deep side!!

Otherwise with a normal level of care and awareness, you should enjoy the experience.

Where to stay / Re: Where to Stay??

Have stayed at the Little Prince three times now and can really recommend them. Central location in the village, very clean airy rooms, nice pool set above the bar and away from the road, good taverna downstairs and perhaps most importantly, you'll be well looked after by Dimitri, Pippina and Mike.

San Stef appear to be moving to a shop unit below the apartments opposite from what was the Simple bar. Looks like a larger office but I don't know if the passing trade to the beach will make up for the numbers that must pass the present location.

Out and About / Cliff path to Arillas
« on: June 14, 2010, 11:23:16 AM »
The cliff path this year seems to have suffered more erosion during the winter and at one point around halfway up the cliff side is down to around two metres wide. My wife kindly pointed out after I had sprinted over it that there was quite a large crack at that point. Knew I should have lost weight before we came!!

There is also a bit near the start where you have to cross a very small gully and I have a feeling the path may not be accessible next year on it's present route. I think they'll have to take it inland a little and some of the undergrowth had in fact been cleared but I don't know if that was related to the erosion problem.

Where to stay / Re: Stamatis 4th June Hurray!!

Stopped at the Gravia the other day for a snack and a cooling beer. There were quite few people there and you certainly can't beat view and it's a good staging post on the walk over to or back from Arillas.

Out and About / Re: current weather
« on: June 12, 2010, 01:35:19 PM »
Weather was really settled all last week and hitting forecast temps of around thirty by Wed/Thurs. Mike at the Little Prince was saying  temp could hit 40 by early next week!!! Tony I've posted a note about the beach under the golden beach heading.

If you are going to walk up and the easy way up is definitely through the olive groves past the Rose Garden, try and be up there around lunchtime and sit and have something to eat at Ilias Taverna in the centre of the village. There is a lovely terrace looking out over the valley. distance is around 4.5 kilometres. Walk back along the road to the Romanza for nice views over the village. We stopped at the Romanza for beer at the pool bar as it was getting a little hot and I had to take on some fluid. My excuse anyway :D

It is coming back and we were well able to walk along past the nudie bit witout getting feet wet. Two rows of loungers back out the other day and weather is settled and getting warmer. It was really nice all this week with temperatures around thirty on Wed/Thurs with light winds. Normal service seems to be restored. It was going to be a scorcher yesterday when we left. It was v. hot on the tarmac at the airport at one o'clock!

Old Perithia is well worth a visit. It's an abandoned hill village which is just coming back to life as the road up to it is now tarmac. A couple of nice tavernas set in the slopes just below Pantokrator, lots of abandoned houses and a good photographic opportunities and the scenery is stunning. It's just so peaceful!

Drive through Acharavi and a few kilometres further on you will see a turn off signposted Perithia. Drive into the new Perithia and Old Perithia is clearly signposted. It's about 8 kilometres from the main road and the road up to it is now pretty good.

Echo the other comments expressed, re Kassiopi, Pelekas, Avliotes etc. but Afionas is really beautiful and a personal favourite.
