Title: Barras, Little Prince or Stamatis?
Post by: IrisG on September 16, 2010, 08:27:37 PM
Hi Folks,
We've already booked to go back to the Vicky apartments in June for two weeks,
but we thought we'd have another week in September.
For some reason Thomas Cook has no availability at all in San Stef for
the first two weeks of September, so it'll have to be Thomson's.
So which is best of these three apartment complexes? We'd appreciate some advice please.

Hi IrisG. We stayed in Stamatis apts last year, we had a studio apt for 2 it was quite small but lovely and clean it was ideal as you don,t spend that much time in there, the pool area is lovely also. Can,t advise on the other 2 as not stayed in them but reading reports on here both are very good

Stopped in Little Prince... Nice modern rooms.... Was very quiet when we stayed there last year. ... Great family who own it. Ended up using their pool a lot this year. Great position close to the heart of everything and has a good taverna and bar attached.
Stopped in Barras a few times. Stayed in one room that we didn't like as it faced the culvert making the balcony not too nice to sit on. We usually stay there on the upper floor by the side of the pool. Large studios, basic but when we've stayed there beautifully cleaned. Again right in the heart of the village and great for the early morning aroma from the bakery. The Barras family are also so very welcoming and also run a nice friendly bar and taverna.
Stopped in Stamatis a few times. A bit back from the road but enjoy peace and quiet and a large pool. We too found the Thomson's rooms small but again very clean. Handily placed for Aspa supermarket and local tavernas and bars. It's own bar  is a nice place to stop and chat and to eat good snacks, Tom the owner is another local who makes you so very welcome.
Unfortunately we cannot say one is better than another as we like them all for differing reasons. We would be back to stay in any like a shot as we know the good welcome and comfortable stay are assured.

Hi Iris,

Hope you are well.  It's Suzy from the Vicky Apts.  I can assure you, we will not be full already for September.  Are you trying to book online?  If you are, and are having problems, I would suggest if you have the time, to call into a Thomas Cook travel agent and explain the problem to them.  We have many guests tell us the same thing.  It's so frustrating.

Hope to see you June and September.

Best Regards
Suzy

Suzy,
Thanks for that.
Duncan did e-mail Thomas Cook about it but hasn't had a reply yet.
We have a branch here, so we'll call in this afternoon.

Iris,

Don't let Thomas Cook fob you off.  Sometimes the flight is full, but not the apartments.  They should offer accomodation only and let you find your own flights.  Hope this helps.

I don't think it can be that the flight is full, as they were
offering other resorts in Corfu for that date, just not San Stefanos.
We'll go in this afternoon and find out what's going on.

Let me know what they say to you, as I will pass it on to the owner and he can take if up with the office.  Many thanks

I've just been checking the TC website again, and according to that
there is no availability in any of their San Stefanos hotels etc.  for the first two
weeks of September from ANY UK airport! :o
Weird, needs checking out definitely. I'm looking forward to hearing what they have to say!

Hi

We have stayed in Stamatis Apartments for last 8 years.  Tom the owner is great and nothing is too much trouble.  The studios for 2 are very small so we always stay in studio for 3 which are very comfortable and spacious. Always found the apartments very quiet as they stand back from the road but everything is very central.   Fantastic pool area if that is your thing, we tend to go onto beach, but always have a snack there when we come off the beach. We always get a warm greeting from Tom on our arrival and he is always there to see us off at the end of our holiday, no matter what time of the night or morning it is!Cannot comment on the others as we always go back to Stamatis, but they both have good reviews. Speaks for itself I guess!!  Hope this helps and happy holidays!!

Thanks for all the input.
We went into our local Thomas Cook branch and
the website is wrong, the holidays are all available.
The agent has reported it to the head office, so we'll check next week.
If it hasn't been fixed we'll just go back in and book in store, as we'd rather return to the Vicky if possible.

I just took a look at the Thos Cook website and for the first 2 weeks Sept 2011 you can currently book both Kapetanios and Mythos.

When I was looking on the TC site for holidays flying from Newcastle it showed there were no holidays available on some of the dates in September but when I scrolled through all the seach results, accommodation in San Stephanos was listed.

This seems to be a recurring problem when guests try to book the Vicky.  We have many people that try to book online and it shows no availabilty, when in fact there is.  If you experience this problem, I would recommend a visit to a Thomas Cook travel agent, if there is one near you.  There should be no difference in price when booking online or through an agent.

I scrolled through the results on the website and
the Vicky appeared further down the pages.
At last we managed to book it!

That's great Iris.  I hope anyone else that's experiencing problems booking the Vicky, picks up on this thread and doesn't give up trying.  :)

I'm pleased you managed to get your holiday booked Iris.  We booked earlier in the week through Thomas Cook for next September staying at the Kapetanios Apts.  A lot of people must be booking early as we got the last room for two for the week commencing 23rd September.
