Where to stay / Re: Newbie - Delfino Blu
« on: July 19, 2010, 06:39:20 PM »
I would not normally comment on other peoples views but feel that I should say that on this our first visit to San Stefanos we were looking at other hotels/apartments to stay in the future.  After a fab lunch at Teresa we went down the hill through the cut opposite the Teresa and saw the Delfino.  We went in and the receptionist could not have been more friendly and obliging.  She showed us around the hotel, two different types of room, explained all about the hotel and restaurant, and answered any query professionally and with courtesy.  We could not have been made more welcome.  I also feel that if guests are paying the prices to stay at the Delfino, the resident guests and management have every right to limit pool use etc to the paying guests.  I hope I have not offended the regular users of this site, who all have been wonderful in answering any query we had before our visit, but fair is fair.

Hi Debra - as I said don't be too put off - you will get the AC - but might take a day or so.  Jasmin the TC rep will get it sorted.  We were kind of lucky in that we did not really need it, just the last couple of days it kind of got a bit unbearable when trying to dry hair and get ready.  If we had really really insisted, it would have been done.  As I said the couple next to us managed to get George the owner over pretty quickly. Must join you in agreement - we have just returned from our first visit too, we absolutely loved it, the resort lived up to all everyone has said about it.  We thought food and drink were very good value for money, people so very friendly, and nearly everyone we spoke to had been to SS before.  We like yourself loved Beachcombers but we did not have a bad meal anywhere.  What we liked also was the fact that the drinks were within 50 cents difference no matter where you sat down, most places very much the same price and had such a diverse selection of different types of bars from the very modern Bar 38 to the very typical greek. We loved the tribute acts in the Condor - wow was "Rod Stewart" good!!!  In fact we have today just booked again for next year, in early September this time.  My hubby wants to add that as someone who takes a few days to unwind from a very labour intensive 3 shift job, he relaxed from the first day and did'nt want to come home, that is the beauty of the place.

Hi - we have just returned from the Mythos on Friday.  This was our first visit to San Stef and we absolutely loved it.  We explored every day, and in our opinion only, and for what suits us, the Mythos end of the resort is the best.  It was so quiet but only 5 mins walk to the centre, whereas because of my health problems going up that bank to Romanza would kill me!!  Going back to the Mythos apartments they were absolutely gorgeous, modern, fairly new and very very clean.  Fantastic pool.  Thomas Cook advertise 8 units but in actual fact there is only 5, 3 maisonnettes and 2 studios.  The maid and her family live in one of the maisonnettes, so it was like having your own private villa and pool.  The only draw back , and which (only thing) would probably make us choose somewhere else next year, was the problems with communication with the owners regarding any problem.  Air conditioning and the safe deposit box were the big thing for us.  The couple who had been in our apartment, and who we met before they left told us that they had tried for close on 2 weeks to get AC with no luck. This is because the old gentleman who lives behind the property and who does general maintenance, pool cleaning etc, speaks no English so you have to wait to see Jasmin the rep (lovely girl who tries her best all the time) who then has to try to contact the owners who live in Sidari, then come back to you.  This can take days to get anything done, and is an absolute pain.  As it happens we managed without AC but the last couple of days were just too hot without it.  We met Gillywoo and her husband who came during our week to the next door apartment and they did manage after a couple of days to get George over from Sidari to put the AC on, but these things should be done quicker and Jasmin and the clients should not have to go through this farce.

This lovely little complex is gorgeous, could be absolutely fantastic, with only a few little tweeks, but if you can get the AC resolved quickly (if you need it) we would have no hesitation whatsoever to recommend here to anyone.  Even if you can't don't be put off we had an absolutely fabulous holiday, are returning next year, to the Mythos is the "tweeks" are done, if not the Rose Garden, Perros Hotel, or the harbour side of the resort to the Fedre Mare.

The food in the resort is lovely, very reasonable and good quality as are the drinks - 2.50 euros for a large mythos everywhere, set meals around 9 euros but to be honest we ate a number of times at Beachcombers which was fantastic and a good quality starter, main meal and bottle of wine was only about 30 euros for the two of us. What a setting, sunset you really must see.  Exchange rate in the resort was 1.20.

So envious of all of you who have there holiday to look forward to - roll on 2011!!!  Enjoy!

Hi everyone - just an update - have also received our tickets for 25th June, and still the Mythos! Can't wait, we are really ready for the rest.  A query while on line - does anyone know how much per week the safe deposit box and air conditioning are at the Mythos for this year, just so we have enough euros when we arrive to pay.

Has anyone been to Mythos this year, been looking most days on line to see if any reviews yet?

Everyone on this forum has been so helpful and informative about San Stefanos, we feel as if we know the resort already, and will in turn post a review about our thoughts when we get home.   Many thanks Madge x

Hi All - managed to speak to customer services yesterday at TC - long wait on phone for someone to answer but they informed me that there was nothing on their system regarding my booking that should affect my holiday, so can only go off that.  It looks at the moment that it is only Rod who has had the problem, at least only from those who read this forum.  If I hear anything to the contrary will let you all know.  Hopefully all our holidays to the Mythos will be ok!!  Think we should maybe stop worrying and wondering and look forward to our well earned rests, what will be will be and all that!!  Cheers to all Madge x

I replied earlier regarding our booking to Mythos on 25th June, but up until now, and we have paid our balance, we have not heard anything from Thomas Cook regarding a cancellation, and we are just a week behind Rod.  Hopefully everything will be ok, but it does make you a bit apprehensive as to what will happen.  I also did a bit of checking to see what was available in SS for our dates, very little, and as we fly from Newcastle the flight only is nearly as much as we paid for the holiday in the first place.  We also for years and years did our own thing, booked flight and accommodation separately but when we priced everything up last September when we booked, we could not get anything near the price of the package from TC, that's why we booked with them. Also because the Mythos looked lovely and a very small complex which is what appealed.  Will let you know if we hear anything and think will give TC a call.

Just been reading this post thread with dread - we are also booked for the Mythos Apartments leaving one week after on 25th June.  Up until now we have had no letter from Thomas Cook, so am wondering if anyone else booked for June has had their holiday cancelled?  We unfortunately cannot change our date of travel as holidays booked from work.  Does put a damper on a much looked forward to holiday, especially reading about Mythos apts being up for sale.

Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to answer our queries.  Hope I did not come over as being a "tight wad!!", and are going to stick with the holiday we have booked.  We are staying in the self catering apartments because we had read quite a few of the reviews and they seemed to come out in favour of the apartments because they have the best view, and leave 12th June.  The costs appear to be relatively cheaper than Cyprus, but again we certainly don't mind paying for quality food.  That is what we love to do in the evening, a couple of drinks, little explore of the menu's on offer, and then sit and enjoy the meal with a nice bottle of wine.  Roll on June.  Once again thanks for all your replies.  Madge xx

Stressed - thanks for your reply.  Funds are a wee bit short this year, as I'm sure like many and that is why we only booked a week.  We certainly don't mind spending for a nice meal or drink etc, but with this horrendous euro situation, don't want to seem to be paying through the nose so to speak.  It is years since we have been to Greece, Roda was the last place we went to in Corfu (we had a lovely holiday then) and we have been going to Cyprus for over 15 years.  We absolutely loved Cyprus, it was like a second home to us, but the old cypriot hospitality is gradually fading in many many places, and the last couple of years have not been the same, even more so since the introduction of the euro there last year.
We did'nt know whether to cancel and go somewhere AI, but to be honest on reflection, it is going to cost around £500 more than the balance we have to pay for San Stefanos, and my hubby thinks we could get a lot of food and drink for that and the choice of where we want to eat and eat what we want. If it is like Cyprus and around 3 euro for a lager or whatever, that should be fine.  It sounds a lovely place.  Thanks Madge xx

Hi

We booked a week in June to Theresa apartments last summer.  Like probably everyone else we are concerned at the Euro exchange rate, and therefore the likely costs.  We have to pay the balance of the holiday at the beginning of April and don't know whether to cancel or transfer to somewhere that includes some food.  To be honest, that is not really our scene, we like to be independent and eat and drink where we fancy.  Is anyone able to give some advice as to what approx a nice meal for 2 costs, price of a pint etc.  Many thanks for anyone's advice.
