So sorry to hear about your holiday Cas Rhino.   We are due to stay at the Kapetanios in September and would be gutted if Thomas Cook changed our holiday at the last minute, especially if the only option was to stay at a different resort.

They do, all the upper floors have balconies and the ground floor rooms have a terrace and garden area.  I am sure you will love it and and the breakfasts are great.

There are only 11 or 12 apartments and plenty of sunbeds so you won't have a problem chilling out by the pool.  I hope Nikos the barman is still there this year - he's lovely and will look after you really well.

You will love it at the Kapetanios Apts.  We stayed there in May and September last year and can't wait to go back in September this year.

Where to stay / Re: Barras, Little Prince or Stamatis?

I'm pleased you managed to get your holiday booked Iris.  We booked earlier in the week through Thomas Cook for next September staying at the Kapetanios Apts.  A lot of people must be booking early as we got the last room for two for the week commencing 23rd September.

When I was looking on the TC site for holidays flying from Newcastle it showed there were no holidays available on some of the dates in September but when I scrolled through all the seach results, accommodation in San Stephanos was listed.

We have also got a photo of him - he sat with us under our table in the Thomas Bay last June then followed us back to the Teresa Apartments and sat beside us there.   He then followed us to our room but we didn't see him again.   We'll be looking out for him when we come back during the last week in September.  He looked as though he was smiling at us with his strange teeth!  I wonder who he belongs to.

We returned home yesterday after a week at the Kapetanios Apartments.  We were concerned that we were not going to be able to get there because of the ash cloud but our flight from Newcastle was just delayed by one and a half hours and our friends on the Birmingham flight had no delays. We stayed in the re-furbished apartments at Kapetanios and in all the years we have been going to Greece it was the best we have stayed in.  Nikos was great and looked after us very well.

The weather was disappointing with torrential rain, thunder and lightning on the Thursday afternoon and it was too cold to eat outside in the evenings.  We had three days of sun but it was chilly in the shade.  The storms during the winter have taken their toll on the beach and a man with a jcb and lorry was busy all week clearing up all the seaweed.  A couple who had been staying at Sidari said the beach there was non-existent.

Prices for food and drink were about the same as last year but there is going to be a big increase in VAT in July (which includes food) and prices are likely to go up.   The village was quiet and some restaurants and bars were empty.  The Mythica, however, was packed and people had to be turned away.

Our highlight of our week was a trip to Corfu town for a festival (6 euros each Stan Stefanos Travel).  The festival is held every year to celebrate the union of Corfu with the rest of Greece in 1864 and there was a great atmosphere in the town with brass bands marching through the streets followed by processions with a lot of the children dressed in traditional costumes.

We had a great week but wish the weather had been better, especially when we heard about the red hot weather you were having at home!

Well, we are packed, hoping to have a few hours sleep and ready to set off to Newcastle Airport at 3 am.   The Airport is still open at the moment and we are hoping we will be sitting in the bar at Kapetanios by lunchtime tomorrow, fingers crossed.  We are just hoping our friends who are flying from Birmingham Airport will be able to make it.   Will be in touch again when we get back.

Thanks for the link to the map Don.   Things are not looking good but at least Newcastle Airport is not included in the No Fly Zone yet.  Everything is ready to pack, we will just have to wait for further news later today.

We're due to fly out tomorrow morning from Newcastle.   It doesn't look likely now if the ash cloud is moving towards the rest of the UK.  Waiting for further updates.....

Information and help please / Re: Teresa Apartments informations

Hi johny rebel

Do you mean the little black dog with the funny teeth that looked as though it was smiling?  When we were there in June a little black dog came and sat with us when we were having a drink in the Thomas Bay.  We then walked back to the Teresa Apartments and it must have followed us as within minutes of sitting down at the pool bar it was curled up at our feet again.   We took a photo of it as it was so cute.  It then followed us to our apartment but we didn't see it again for the rest of the holiday.

Kotopoula is the Greek word for chicken so maybe it was Kotopoula + whatever the chicken was cooked in.
I know this doesn't answer your question as there will probably be a lot of Kotopoula dishes on a Greek menu!

I think it's a shame that anyone who hasn't tried Zorbas might be put off by Don's "plastic" comment.  Zorba's is one of our favourites and we really enjoyed the food and great atmosphere when we were there earlier this year.
