Another hot and sunny day today, and now the winds have died down, business is good again for the beachside tavernas, who were all nice and busy this evening  :)

Quite a lot going on around the resort tonight.....Olly Murs/Robbie Williams tribute in Condor, quiz night at 3 W's, Greek night at 2 Stars, live music in Bar 38, and the football on in a lot of other bars....with Poland playing I can hear Kasia next door in Athens Bar cheering them on!

There was a cliff slip along the far end of the beach today.....remember that the cliffs are quite unstable due to wet winters/dry summers, so if you like to sunbathe at the northern area of the beach, keep a good eye on the cliffs above, and take care.

Not long for you now Karen.....and the good news is the rubbish is on the move ( please refer to the other thread)

So the mistral winds of yesterday have died down somewhat today, although this afternoon there was still enough breeze for the kite surfers to be out enjoying themselves!

With the warmer evenings, there seem to be alot more people having a nightly stroll, and enjoying the balmy temperatures.

Karaoke tonight at Condor, someone's doing a pretty good rendition of 'any dream will do' right now!

As has already been reported, the huge pile near Peli and Maria's was cleared last night, and I've been told the other huge pile opposite Aspa is going tonight.
The ongoing issue at the landfill site has not yet been resolved.....this has been organised on a local level. The rubbish is being taken away from the village and stored elsewhere until normal service resumes. As we've said, all the businesses have been pulling our hair out about this issue, and have found it accutely embarrassing. I'm not sure who is behind the organising of this, but a BIG BRAVO to whoever it is, and also to the people who are working through the night to remove it!

Hi Karen, no problems with getting money out of ATM's or getting stirling changed into euros. There was a short length of time on Friday after the Brexit vote when some places in Europe weren't exchanging, as they were waiting for the currency fluctuations which happened after the vote results to calm down and stabilise

So today started a little overcast and cooler, but then the sun came through to give us a hot one for most of the day. The Mistral winds have picked up over the last few hours though, and now they're pretty strong, resulting in some of  the beachside places having to close for this evening, so no Chilly Chili, who get blasted by the winds up on their sand dune!

Our new neighbours have been doing their last prep, ready to open on Friday, doing burgers, toasties, sandwiches and drinks. They've been waiting for the usual paperwork snail to get their licences ready, but should be all good to go ready for 1st July.

Well, it appears (according to a Corfu facebook page) that some bins are being emptied, in Acharavi, Kassiopi, and last night Roda and Corfu Town....not been out of the village other than to and from home in Dafni via Arillas and Kavadaddes, and sadly none have been emptied there or here  :'(

It is a big problem, and we are all finding it not only so sad that this beautiful island is looking so bad, but also acutely embarrassing that visitors should have to suffer it too!

There has been talk in the village today of trying to do something here on a local basis to sort it out.....

Sounds lovely Balkus....yes George has been busy pre season, and the area at Vicky Pool with the new seating and shade for eating whilst overlooking the beach great.

So, we've had some glorious hot sunny days for the last few days  8)

Yesterday saw Aquarius Bar busy in the early afternoon with lots of people having pre wedding drinks, all dressed up and looking very smart! Nice to see the bride and groom being driven through the village after the ceremony in a white open top VW, looking like they're were definitely having the best day, and hopefully they were!

It got very humid last night, and we were all expecting a storm, we got a fantastic light show courtesy of the lightening out to sea over the Diapontia islands, and a small rumble of thunder, but it stayed dry.

And this evening is once again pretty humid, so lots of al fresco dining and drinking tonight....Olympia very busy, as is Bar 38. Silver Star has lots of people watchers enjoying their outside area, whilst across the road others have been watching football in El Greco.

And tonight is the very popular Greek night at Romanza, and at Ozzy Oil, Nikos is cooking your meat on his BBQ grill tonight, whilst you can enjoy some sangria whilst waiting for it to be cooked.

I have just been told by one of our Greek neighbours that some bins between here and Avliotes have been emptied this morning. The lorry was full, so has to return, but hopefully this is the start....
We saw the remains of some fires this morning when driving in, so now people have taken it into their own hands to illegally burn it, hopefully the authorities will be getting it sorted out. We are all certainly hoping so!!!

Another lovely sunny day again, although a tad breezy on the beach this afternoon and evening, with quite a few waves rolling in!

I think Lesley has mentioned it on another thread, but in case you've not seen it, I'm pleased to say the local bus service that goes between Sidari and St George, stopping here and Arillas is up and running again, we meet it every morning in Arillas on the way to work! A great little service if you fancy visiting other places nearby.

So a nice walk along the beach late evening gave Bod the chance to run off some energy on a deserted beach, and then we had a nice walk back via the older part of the village, where Kamini bar had some drinkers, and Nafsika and Beer O clock were busy, as well as diners enjoying the view from Beachcombers patio area.

With regards to the overflowing rubbish bins, yes this is a BIG problem, and trust me, all of us business owners in San Stef (and people all over the island) are pulling our hair out about it. It is an island wide problem, and not just here.

It's a consequence of the landfill being full and the people living close to it protesting, so it has been closed ( I believe by the mayor of Corfu), so there is nowhere for it to be taken.  :'(

If there was something that we could do about it locally, we would, but there appears to be no solution......as there is nowhere for it to go, we can't club together to pay for its removal, and it cannot be burned, as between May and Oct it is illegal to start a bonfire, due to the risk of wildfires.

We're all desparate for it to be resolved ASAP, and are hoping a solution will be found, and quickly!

In the meantime, we all fully understand that holidaymakers are not happy about it (as neither are we!!), and just hope that you will all try look beyond it and enjoy the unique hospitality that you receive here in San Stefanos.

So, after a couple of slightly overcast days, the sun burst through again today, giving us another lovely day. It got a little breezy late afternoon, but all in all a lovely day.

Yesterday saw most tavernas busier earlier on, as many chose to watch the football, however, for those that aren't footie fans, the older part of the village provided places to avoid it, and Beer O Clock, Manthos, Beachcomber and Nafsika were all busy!

Tonight there's live Irish music in Bar 38, and a tribute to Ska music in Condor.

Apologies folks, I thought I'd missed a couple of posting, but looks like there's none from me since Monday evening! Either I wrote something, and didn't post it, or I've got frazzled summer brain....think it's probably the latter!!  ;D

So, after the storm, the weather has cleared totally, and has been hot, sunny and gorgeous....and it's going to stay this way all summer, according to weather sites.

Everyone has got mopped out and cleaned up since the storm, although unfortunately the bridge is still in its resting place along the beach going towards Athina, now getting submerged in sand, but hopefully will be back in it's rightful place soon.

Days quieter on the streets now, as it's most definitely beach/pool day weather, and the evenings are getting busier out and around in the village. Music nights have been popular in all the usual venues, and people have been enjoying sitting out on patios.
Ozzy Oil has a regular Friday night musician, and are doing some nice specials, and all the Greek Nights are being pretty well attended.
3W's was the venue for a facebook forum meet up this week, which was very well attended, and their Thursday night quiz is proving popular too.

Yep, you're not wrong Sellsy, it was a storm and a half!!
We didn't bother to leave home until 11am, as there was no way we wanted to drive down in the torrents, and so glad we waited.....having seen photos and videos on internet, if we'd come at our usual time we'd never have got through Arillas or San Stef, yet 1 hour later it was still wet roads, but it was a couple of feet deep at least, before!!

Zorbas and Brusko took the brunt of it here, although both all dried out and cleaned up very quickly. The stream down to the beach is more like a river, and the bridge has migrated along towards Athina!

But now, the sun is shining, and its another nice warm evening...you'd never have guessed what it was like this morning, apart from the tale tell gravel strewn across the road!

Apologies to Condor last night....I said there was no live music, but they had an Amy Winehouse tribute, and judging by how many there were watching, she seemed very popular!

Tonight, live music in Bar 38, and we must say a HUGE congratulations to Manthos, who's taverna is celebrating 40 years in business tonight, what an amazing achievement! Xronia Polla Manthos taverna, have a great night!!

So, after a lovely hot sunny day yesterday, today has been a nice temperature, but rather overcast. Our amateur weatherman at Spiros Bikes told us there's a storm brewing, which will come overnight......the clouds are already forming over the mountains, so it's on its way. He's not usually far wrong with his predictions!
And there was me just saying a couple of days ago that the bridge re-appearing was a sign of no more storms, shows how much I know!  :o

Despite the clouds, many are sat outside enjoying their meals tonight, so hopefully they will stay dry!

No music anywhere tonight as far as I know, but sports available in most of the bars, with the football, and the Canadian Grand Prix both on.

Another lovely day again today.....some cotton wool clouds over the mountains inland, but nothing to block out the sun here!

The watersports are in full swing now, with the inflatable rings out on the floating platform, all ready for anyone keen to be bounced along behind a boat in one!

Another food option starting in the village, with Margarita at 3W's bar now making and serving fresh savoury and sweet crepes

And the Euro's start tonight, so lots of the bars will be showing the football, but there's still other options for the non footie fans....I can hear the karaoke at Condor from here!

I'll try to keep the updates daily if poss googleberry1811....keep you going til your next visit!

Another hot and sunny day today, just a few clouds around, but they didn't block out the sun much!  8)

The bridge is back in place over the stream on the beach, yay, making it easier for anyone who doesn't want to get wet feet getting from 1 side of the beach to the other....also hopefully means that no more storms are likely for a long time!

There's just a slight breeze this evening, which is nice and refreshing, and once again the village is busy. Live music tonight at El Greco, and Condor, and others enjoying a quiet drink on the patio's of Athens Bar and Aquarius, and 3 W's has their quiz night.
