San Stefanos news and views / San Stef in the winter
« on: February 16, 2012, 12:12:21 AM »
Evening all,

My wife and I are fast (too fast) approaching an age when we'll be able to retire and we have dreams of spending it abroad, somewhere warm either permanently or over the winter and back to Wales for the summer (that'll probably be a weekend in June such as it is).

We love San Stef but wonder what it's like in the winter months. From what I can glean from previous topics its very quiet but is it too quiet? Would my wife and I find enough to do to wile away the days waiting for summer again? What are the temperatues like? A friend has recommended Tenerife as its in the low 20's there in the winter but I think San Stef is noticeably cooler than that.

Just gathering info thats all.

Any comments much appreciated.

Out and About / Re: How I found San Stefanos.!!!
« on: February 16, 2012, 12:04:50 AM »
Discovered San Stef by chance back in 2003 when looking to book a holiday for the summer of 2004. Went to a First Choice shop having found the Rose Gardens in their brochure. No one in the shop had heard of San Stef and they had never previously booked anyone into the Rose Gardens either. Not ideal circumstances but we decided to go for it anyway. Well I'm glad we did.

This year will be our 9th visit having stayed twice at the Rose Gardens, once at Delfino Blu (I think we were a bit flushed that year ;)) and every visit since to the fantastic Fedra Mare. San Stef - great place, people, food, sunshine, ambience, environment, beach, sea, taverna's, bar's and more than anything else it's always relaxing and chilling.

I hope we can afford it next year!

Booked for 2 weeks from 2nd July at Fedra Mare again. Going earlier this year as I don't want to miss any of the Olympics. Bit of an anorak when it comes to the Olympics. :-[

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Restaurant recomendations

Loftyscot

We were at Manthos on Saturday 23rd July as well - I was the guy chosen (if thats the right word) to do the dance with the rather slim and attractive Greek dancer. A good laugh even if I felt a bit of a fool.

I can hear you shouting already - you'll find out when you get there but I need to know the answer to a couple of questions which have been nagging away at me all winter.
First up - is Zorba's still open? There were rumours last year that 2010 was to be their last year.
Also, is the Pizza place next door open. Once again we heard that that was closing at the end of season 2010.
I read somewhere that the Sunset has been redeveloped which is a great surprise as Spiro was looking to sell last year I think. So has it or hasn't it? We love the place and my eldest son swears by their Sofrito and the Greek salad is to die for.
Olive Press - it did open last year but didn't seem to do much trade and was being run by some east europeans I think. Has there been a change as we like that place too?
Are there any new places opended or other places closed down?
Thanks for the help.  ;)

Hi Kernock,

Nice to have the first report - thanks.

Intersting your comment re: Bar 38 with Hilary in Sidari. What's happened there? Last year Spiro was very ill in a Athens hospital and I don't think he was home come the seasons end. Haven't heard anything about them since.

Hope everythings okay with them - lovely people.

Webcam weather looks awful yesterday and today so I was wondering whether anyone had been and come back yet. What's the news?

Apologies to everyone else's choices but it has to be Zorba's for us and our two boys. :)

The Fedra Mare's our favourite too having previously stayed at the Rose Gardens and Delfino Blu.

Great photo's Tony - wish I was there now even though its the depths of winter. As bad as it is over there (economy wise) at least come the spring they have the weather, what will we have? :'(

I understand and appreciate the peace of mind booking with a firm like Thomsons can give you but we've been booking independently for 6 years now and can't get a single company to match the prices we get. There are 4 of us and I've booked with Easyjet for less than £500 for next July. Add on our 2 week stay and I'm getting a 2 week holiday for less than 1500 including transfer by taxi. Now that's value.  :D

How much we spend when there is another matter. ;)

Booked for 15th July - just like Peter - staying at Fedra Mare for the 6th time and our 9th visit overall.

Great place.

Returned from the Fedra on 30th July.

Absolutely brilliant place. We love it and have booked for next year already. Would book for the next couple of years if I had my way. In fact I would move to San Stef tomorrow if I was 10 year's older and retired.

San Stefanos news and views / Recommending San Stef to others
« on: August 17, 2010, 10:10:55 PM »
Hi all,

Last October our youngest son's best friends parents asked us what was so special about San Stef that made us return every year. Obviously we gave them a full report including links to this site, Agni travel, Fedra Mare (where we stay every year) and so on. They were so impressed that they booked for two weeks this August.

Since then as their holiday has got closer ;D :D ;D we can't help feel a little nervous that what's our cup of tea isn't someone elses and as we all save for that fortnight away I didn't want them to feel their money was wasted.

Well we needn't have worried. They returned from San Stef last night and I've just discovered they've booked for next year already and they LOVE IT.  ;D

My question is, how many people have visited San Stef on the back of your recommendation and continue to return?

Zorba's - good reasonable food and excellent dancing

Little Prince - new chef this year which has made a huge difference and again good dancing

Mythica - first visit back in July to this place and I can safely report it deserves it's top 3 place.

Throw in the Beachcomber for the sunset, Olympia for more great food, Mistral for the size of their starters and you have a great choice.

Bar 38 - chic, busy and great fun.
