The Gravia is indeed open this year.  We visited 3 weeks ago but missed Costos as he was in Corfu Town

Regarding The Nafsika Hotel:

George & Costos left the Nafsika about 1-2 years ago, Costas now runs (and has done for the past year) his own cafe/bar called Gravia on the top of the San Stefanos hill, towards Arillas with his brother Yiannis.  Very nice place with views over the island of Gravia

George temporarily took over the management of O'Manthas (opposite The Nafsika) in 2009, but I now believe he is back in Sidari.

After suffering the recent sad loss of his mother, Vangelis has also left The Nafsika.  He is "doing his own thing" of his passions of fishing and painting.  He will be a sad loss, no more  "lovely jubbly".  He still lives directly behind the Nafsika Hotel.

His place has been taken by a waiter called Spiros (Oh no not another one, the owner was enough), he seems OK but is a bit "stairy"

RE DIVE SHOP

I understand that there are payment problems with the dive shop and the landlord (we all should know who he is) and it will not be re-opening

Hi Tony

I only wish we had a local Greek restaurant, the nearest is about 35 miles

My favourites are:

Romanza, try the Kokkinisto and their lunchtime salads
Mythica, try the meatballs, stuffed mushrooms and sofrito,
Little Prince try the sizzling steak and squid, Greek dancing too.
Nafsika, try the sofrito, stamna and mousaka
The Beachcomber serves good food but tends to serve international rather than traditional Greek food

Nationwide is another 0% commission credit card, but only in Europe, whereas Post Office credit card is worldwide

At The Nafsika Hotel (SS) on 18th May 2010 we got 1.16 Euros to the GBP with commission already taken off.  So go and see Spiros.

Hi Tony & Jonny Rebel

It looks like the Romanza HAS cut down on the breakfasts this year, as last year you could choose boiled eggs, yogurt and honey or cereals as well (and it was all help yourself) with no additional supplement, I suppose it's a sign of the times!!

Hi all

Does anybody know what the standard breakfast consists of at The Romanza Hotel this year.  Last year (2009) it consisted of cereals, toast, cake, yoghurt and honey, boiled eggs and tea or coffee.  You could also have a full English breakfast etc, at a supplement.

I wondered if, due to the economic situation in Greece that it may have altered since last year

Any help on this would be very useful.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: New Romanza Villas Update
« on: May 25, 2010, 02:10:09 AM »
We stayed at the New Romanza Villas for a week in mid May 2010 and we’ve got to say they are the height of luxury and extravagance.

The two separate villas are situated just beyond Golden Beach Hotel, behind the church on the road to the harbour and within 40-50 metres from the beach.

They are sited in a slightly elevated position affording spectacular views over San Stefanos Bay and the islands of Diaplo, Mathraki, Othoni and Ericcusa and also good views of Albania (on a clear day).

Each of the two villas consists of three stories and each villa has its own private swimming pool (7.5 x 5 metres), sun beds, BBQ and each is set in well maintained, colourful gardens.

They are furnished to a high standard with very tasteful and sophisticated decoration.   They are fully furnished and have air conditioning/central heating to all rooms.

The top floor consists of two double bedrooms each opening out to a huge balcony overlooking the bay, also one twin bedroom and two bathroom/shower rooms.

The middle floor consists of an extra large living/dining room with Satellite TV, also opening out to another huge balcony overlooking the bay, a large fully fitted kitchen with state of the art cooking facilities and also another WC/Washroom.

The lower floor/basement consists of a two person sauna, Satellite TV and Wi-Fi, pool table and another shower room.

If six people were to occupy these villas it would cost from slightly over 30 euros per day each, not bad for the sumptuousness and opulence you will enjoy.

Hi YIANNIS

Just a bit of further info:
Block one (near the pool) has 18 rooms and block 2 (nearest to the town) has 12 rooms.

Alex's daughter is no longer at The Romanza, she has been working in Crete but is back now, maybe just for a vacation.

A new waiter named Dimitris now working alongside Andreas.

We'll see you in June 2010.

Hi Ouzopower

Yes, I was known as Sir George mainly by Andreas (my wife = Lady Lesley)
Maybe I'll see you all again next year.
I will probably be taking a week at the Romanza Villas in May 2010, I'll tell you the story behind that when I see you.

Hi Ouzopower

Yes I was there when you tried the octopus, I tried it the day before, but not on toast, and I agree the skorpios fish was very tasty, but with lots of small bones.  By the way Ouzopower you snored loudly some nights and woke up your next door neighbours (us), only joking but we were your next door neighbours

We also had a good night at The Thomas Bay when Just 2 played.  Remember the two ladies in the black tee shirts with the logo "Alice who the f---  is Alice, well I'm afraid to confess that one was my wife who sang the Chubby Brown lyrics louder than most.

We heard from Anthony and Chris (Just 2) that they may not be together next year, Anthony may be going back to German, shame they'll be missed.
