The improvements to the beach are down to a massive effort on Nulas part here at San Stefano Travel. She is behind the organization of the clearing with the backing of the locals here in the village. It will be great to see it restored to its former glory!!  ;)
A big thanks to Noula,an outstanding asset to the Village and also to all the locals who lent a hand.We will be there on Sunday 8th to take advantage.

The local people are not allowed to do this. Papapetros - it requires permissions. It also requires a JCB and a truck to take the seaweed away.

I''m sure the locals would love to have the beach cleared. It will happen. Eventually.
The locals are not allowed to drive without seatbelts, they have to wear crash helmets when riding mopeds,no one under 16 years of age can drive a moped, they are not allowed to drink and drive, they must issue receipts for purchases, they are not allowed to smoke in enclosed bars/tavernas.Do they take any notice?Certainly not in my experience!!So,why are they playing to the rules now or are they playing politics?I know what my guess would be.
As regards a JCB,both Yiannis and Spiros have one and make at least part of their livings hiring them out and i know at least one local lorry driver who does the same.I know what i would do to protect my future and that of my family. If it carries on for too long,it wouldn't be the greatest surprise if Thomson cut back drastically next year.
I make these points because i care and for no other reason.

It is a very sad day when the beachfront restauranteurs and hoteliers cannot get off their backsides and arrange removal of the seaweed ,thus protecting their livelihoods and the future of Aghios Stefanos. It would be doubtful that anyone paying a first visit this May would wish to return.Oh,go on, lets blame someone else.

The business 'Cambridge' is referring to is San Stefano Rent a Car.It is a family business which i have used  for more than 20 years and is now run by Valantis(son of Nikos the founder) and his wife Dora,a really nice young couple.
There are no extras and full insurance is included in the price.I cannot recommend them highly enough and rest assured you will more than happy if you do use their services. They don't know it yet, but, they will be delivering a car to the Airport for me on June 8th for our annual stay.

« on: October 12, 2013, 02:18:16 AM »
You don't need to be a genius to understand that it's a matter of supply and demand, and with Thomas Cook using Easyjet for many of their holidays, the end result is that there are far less seats available for us flight only passengers.Could be that the days of really cheap flights booked well in advance have gone forever (Ryanair maybe an exception, but their flights don,t really fit with the  general Monday and Friday booking requirement) and we have to bite the bullet.Stiil it seems cheap to me that you can fly to Corfu from England for £300,whilst a taxi from Kidderminster to Luton is £140.
The good news however,is that Easyjet are to allow smoking on May 1st.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Smoking in Tavernas
« on: September 22, 2013, 10:45:56 PM »
Arrived today and it appears that this smoking thread has not gone unnoticed by the local Taverna owners.Apparently, smoking became a big issue during the high season, with the Greeks and Italians complaining about the excessive smoking Brits ruining their meals.

After a few lengthy meetings, the majority of Taverna owners believe it is in their best interests to introduce some no smoking measures next year, with a  proposed start date of June 1st.

The initial policy is simplicity itself, with each Taverna operating a no smoking policy on alternate days i.e. will be decided by the date 1st,3rd,5th etc.. The ban will only operate between the hours of 1800 until 2300.

Lets hope common sense prevails and all Taverna owners sign up to the policy and all tourists adhere to the polcy.
