Hi Tredegar Boy,

Same here my friend, been lucky enough to have seen The Specials, Selecter and The Beat all recently and all still worth a night out to see them ! We had a local Ska band called Skatacus to play at our joint 50th Party 3 years ago and that converted a lot of our family and friends - great music, great times !

Name of the bar is immaterial really, as long it's got a great atmosphere, a warm welcome, cold beer and tasty food it will be a very welcome addition to the old part of the village and all the more reason to venture (not that it's a great distance !), down there.

Good luck to them and I'll see them in September.

Salopian,

Yes we ventured there last year and used the track down from the road as you say just south of Avliotes. There is a little beach, the sand was quite damp, but there were patches towards the back that were dry.

We got down there on a scooter without any dramas and will certainly call in again when next is San Stefanos, certainly worth an hour or so if total isolation is what you need.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the good wishes for Pano to settle in to his first proper home with the two of us and Ruby. We've only had him about 20 days, but couldn't imagine being without him.

The real heroes are Cheryl and great team at Corfu Animal Rescue Establishment who have re-homed or homed over a thousand dogs in their 11 years. They took Pano in, got him to the vets, sorted out his pet passport / jabs and then arranged transport to the UK. They are based between Avliotes and Sidari and I'll definitely call in when next on the island.

Back to Pano - just back from the vets, he's put on 2Kg (at last), his manky eye has cleared up, his stomach has settled down and the vet wants to adopt him !

Thanks again All - over and out.

Rod, Terri,

Thanks for your kind comments, appreciated. I've hopefully uploaded a photo of (he that is now known as) Pano, with Ruby in the background. Once you see that face of his, you'll see why we had to bring the young scamp home !

Hi All,

We spent Easter with a couple of friends in Kassiopi so we could be in Corfu Town for the pot smashing, which on the whole was a real spectacle and thoroughly recommended if you ever get the opportunity.

Whilst in Kassiopi we kept spotting a stray dog, that eventually won us over and we have now brought him back home to the UK with the help of the marvellous Cheryl at Corfu Animal Rescue Establishment. He's 80% English Setter, is now well settled, putting weight back on and is best mates with our Dalmatian Ruby. he's quite a regal chap with a lovely calm nature - unless he spots any kind of bird !

We had trip over to San Stefanos one day and it was really eerie to see it properly closed, Tasty Corner and the Bakery appeared open, but apart from seeing the irrepessible Robbie at Kapetanios, there was hardly a soul about - mind you that was Good Friday.

Had to cancel our trip to San Stefanos last Sept at short notice and this year we have special anniversary and family commitments so we won't be back. HOWEVER I have just booked 10 days at Kapentanios for September 2015 !

Keep up all the fun and laughter on this forum, it's keeps us all in touch with our favourite resort and have a great time all of you that are lucky enough to be going this year.

Cheers,

John.

Gav / Iris,

Thanks for the reply - pure curiosity on my behalf really as I had no idea it was there and it's pretty well invisible from the road. The aerial view on Google shows how large the hotel is - off to YouTube for a look round the interior.

Information and help please / Abandoned Hotel ?

Morning All,

Returning to Ag Stefanos for the 3rd time (in 3 yrs - unheard of for us - but we're hooked !) in 5 weeks time, so thanks to all for keeping us up to date with all the news and views - informative and entertaining.

Can anyone tell me (just curiosity really), what the story is with huge, apparently abandoned hotel, which is just off "The Strip" past Yiannis Grill / Silver Moon Bar on the right as you head towards the hill.

When we were in San Stef last year I walked up the overgrown road and it certainly looked out of action, but also in relatively good shape as if it had been in use maybe 8 to 10 years ago ? But I have never seen it mentioned on this forum.

As I said can't wait to get back, love the place despite on the first visit not being too sure whether I did for the first 2 -3 days. My favourite spot is having an early evening beer or 2 (whilst waiting for my infinately better half to join me) at El Gecco and watching the resort come to life - bliss !

Lizzie,

Thanks for the reply. Shame about Bosko, I looked out for him each day we were in Ag Stefanos and even in Arillas, as I saw him there one day last year.

John.

Afternoon all,

Just returned from Ag Stef (on 24th sept), which was our 2nd visit, with the first being last year and we've already booked to go back. We've never been to same place three years in a row, but as you've all confirmed, it really get's under your skin !

This year we did a few walks to make sure we'd enjoy the copious amounts of Mythos, Red Wine and Ouzo later in the day and completed 3 that I'd recommend, but was wondering if anyone could suggest some others for next year.

Walk 1 - Ag Stef to Afionas, then on to Porto Timoni.

Walk 2 - Ag Georgios to Makrades via the Donkey Path and back

Walk 3 - Ag Georgios to Pagi then returning via valley paths and back roads.

All 3 were all great walks for different reasons, but I'd be interested if anyone had others they recommend for next September.

Also does anyone know what happened to "Bosko" ? He was ever present at the Kamini Bar last year and was a lovely Boxer(ish) dog, big and white with a lot of black spots and a typical Boxer jutting lower jaw and a lovely temperament.

Thanks.

Hi All,

Just returned from Ag Stef (I posted earlier in the "Where To Eat Out" section as San (Ag) Stefanos Virgin), so thanks for all your advice and just out of curiosity, we ate the first night at Nasfika and were very pleased. Didn't have poor meal anywhere in our 10 nights and we had at least 7 Mezedes style meals, with a large jug of wine at most.

As a first timer to Ag Stefanos, the place grew on me as time went on. At first it was a tad too brash and British with a lack of smaller tavernas tucked around the back streets (if you kown what I mean) and all the bars seemed huge. But the sheer friendliness of everyone and I do mean everyone, won us over and we began to really like the evenings out, but funnily enough didn't eat or really drink along the "Condor Strip", but preferred the older part to drink and eat in (large Mythos on draught only 2 euros at the 3W Bar.

We loved the area around the resort and walked to Ag Georgios twice and had a scooter to get out and about for a week or so. Stopped three times (after a longish walk) at Erianas on the peninsular by the little church and loved the shade, the welcome, the chickens/ducks/geese etc and the lovely Eriana herself.

Overall we had a fantastic stay in Ag Stefanos and will definately return in a year or two - thankyou for all the sage advice and entertainment on this forum and enjoy your next holiday in Ag Stef !
