Hi, lindylou here. I have just returned from San Stef staying at Kapetanios. Mythika great good and atmosphere. shock coming back to reality and work!
-
Glad you enjoyed it and also the Havana Bar!!
Will pass your regards on to Spiros!
-
Hi
Just returned from SS, We ate at the Mythica twice the first time was excellent the second not so, we both had the €15 steaks one peppercorn the other garlic and were advised (by Jenny) if we wanted them medium to ask for medium/well so we did, the peppercorn was really tough and the garlic was still alive inside with hard burnt bits outside. We had spoke to others who had the same problem, so my advise would be keep clear of those and you will be fine.
-
Did you end up with Deli Belly from the steaks lol? In all seriousness, it was probably just a one off. I'm sure whatever the problem was that night has since been sorted.
-
Spesh 49, did you and the others tell Jenny there was a problem with that particular dish? If you don't tell the restraunters there was a problem, how will it get resolved? I'm sure Jenny would be mortified reading about this online.
-
StockJockey.....
Us Brits usually dont complain.......we just dont go back!! Apologies but that's the British nature!!!
I know that the odd rogue dish gets through....it's bound to happen...but surely everything must be quality checked before it goes out?
-
And what would you suggest re checked for quality, the staff conducting a taste test? Seriously, where am I working, I have exactly the same problem. If there are problems, people chat amongst themselves and very rarely say anything. How can problems get resolved if you don't inform staff? It's better to mention the problem, rather than not knowing and then finding out from the internet. I know it's British nature not to complain, but it makes me feel very uneasy and i'm sure a few others that we think everything is ok, only to read about problems via the internet.
-
We have eaten at The Mythica since it first opened and always have had fantastic meals and service there.
If you're looking Jenny, I hope you've still got some blackberry jam left!!
-
We ate at Mythica twice in June and the food was lovely. The seabass was to die for and the sauce it was in was gorgeous. I wish i had asked what was in the sauce!!
-
We thought Mythica was excellent. Good food, friendly service.
-
Always had great meals at Mythica and are looking forward to going again in August on our first or second night.
-
Hi
No we did'nt tell Jenny feel more embarrased complaing than just leaving it (Brits eh) also knowing them makes it worse in my opinion, as i said we had a previous meal and it was excellent, as we had many meals in the Romanza which were also excellent. Maybe something had gone wrong that night but the other visitors were on seperate nights, so maybe the steaks are just not their thing.
It was just strange they were the same steak with different sauces cooked the same but were totally different.
But i will also say that they were one if not the busiest restaurant in SS
-
Well I have resolved to tell the local people this year if I find a problem, having read the posts this year about this subject!
trouble is, I never have with the Mythica - one of my favourites!
-
Just come back from San Stephanos for the 4th time! Went to Mythica. Ughhhh! Horrid meal! Never again! OK if you want English food.
-
Just come back from San Stephanos for the 4th time! Went to Mythica. Ughhhh! Horrid meal! Never again! OK if you want English food.
We thought it was really good, when we were in SS in June. Went twice during our stay.
-
Mythica is fantastic, typical Greek food, perhaps you need Egyptian food Cleopatra.
-
Have to agree with Waspman and Bristol Boy, Our food last year was great and a mixed menu.
Typical Greek Food, some French or Italian style food -nice menu!
However, we never bothered with any English style dishes in San Stefanos as we do that at home!
Maybe you were just unlucky.
-
Just back and enjoyed the Mythica very much.
-
Have never had a bad meal at Mythica - very Greek food each time as well. We will be looking to go on Friday Night for our first meal this year.
-
It's not surprising we get mixed reports though - as we are all different and have different tastes,
however, Mythica seems to overwhelmingly get a high percentage of good reports compared to any bad ones - we never had anything but great meals there!
-
I've tried to hold back on this one but I can't now...
The food is ok, it's just that it's a bit dull compared to the other restaurants on offer. Reminds us of going to your Auntie's when you were little and you put on a polite wee smile to hide the fact you were bored stiff.
The reverse scenario would be Greek people setting up a Scottish restaurant in Edinburgh.....it just doesn't work.
IMHO :)
-
But "HE" is Greek! and cooks!
-
Stick to the haggis loftyscot You clearly don't appreciate good Greek food
-
Let's face it - the food is infinitely better in Greece now than it was when I started going in the late 70s. All you could get then was a souvlaki made with pork that seemed to be infused with concrete and cold chips.
The overall standard of food in SS is excellent. In fact, outstanding at the price. Everywhere will have one dish that doesn't quite work, but then the attempt is better than the production-line food you get in a place like Sidari.
I know people get purist about "Greek" food - but in actual fact most of the "Greek" food in SS is a modified form for tourists. Who cares? Personally, I like Mythica, and the pork special was indeed special.
The food at Zorba's is good - but they could get away with serving wet cardboard to a high percentage of the women clients as long as O Vasilis or one of the other lads served it.
-
Very strange Jimbo, your posting on 21st August said:
Funny how people differ. I'd be a bit reluctant to go back to Mythica -
Is Er Indoors pulling the strings??
-
She hasn't pulled my string for ages.
She was less impressed then me.
-
Jim - you need another Holiday!! LOL
-
We got back from 2 blissfull weeks in San Stef last friday, we ate for 10 of the 14 nights at Mythica and couldn't fault it. Food is wonderful and service the same, particularly Jenny who is an angel.
Most nights we were there Jenny had to turn people away as they were fully booked... I wish I could make a lamb kleftico to match theirs !
By the way, the other 4 nights we had a 'picnic' on a our balcony taking in the stunning sunset over the islands....now sitting at home watching the puddles form in the garden.
-
Dear Waspman
A poor response on a forum noted for the respect normally shown to fellow members opinions in comparison to other similar sites.
I do appreciate good Greek food and if you read my post carefully I said "the food is ok but is a bit dull compared to the other restaurants on offer". Merely offering my opinion to give a balance.
The lady Jenny is one of the politest ladies you could hope to meet, but unfortunately the restaurant doesn't do it for my family.
As for the "haggis" comment, I'm only glad my user name didn't reference another country - I dread to think what wit you would demonstrate then.
No doubt I'll be yellow carded by Administrator but please tone it down a touch.
Kind regards
-
Have to agree with you Loftyscot. This is the last place I expected to see racist abuse. I hope it's the last too.
-
We all know we have our own favourites and Opinions!
I love the Mythica - but Lofty's comments are more than fine with me - he just didn't like it there - no problem!
After all, if everyone only ate fillet Steak at one place - how boring would life be!
Don - not sure you can count a Haggis as racist abuse - I have had it several times! LOL!!!
However - although maybe, I would not have put it that way, I suspect it was merely said in Jest, rather than to be nasty!
-
For Gill and I its as much about the atmosphere as the food.
We can go to a fine restaurant and have great food anywhere in the UK, but we cant spend hours in a restaurant, enjoying the music, chatting to the friendly owner here, you only get that in San Steph!
IMO thats where the Mythica falls down, it lacks atmosphere, the food is O.K. but when we went our meal was over within 90 minutes and there was nothing going on for you to want to linger. Compare that with the Litle Prince or Zorbas where after a good meal the lights go down and the dancing starts, yes its touristy but we love it and before long we are staggering out at midnight having had a great evening.
The Mythica would be fine in Eastbourne or Skegness but while in SS I want something different.

I think it depends what you're feeling like. It is quite nice to have a peaceful evening with some nice food, and then may have a Metaxa in a bar. I do get a little bored with the dancing and barbecue lighter after a while. Unlike my experience of Sidari, where the food was awful apart from Chinese (which I can get 2 minute's walk from here) or Indian (1 minute's walk), San Steph has some very nice places to eat with a variety of ambiances.
There seems to be a view that you get lots of authentic Greek food in SS. I happen to think this is not *quite* true - it's pretty much tailored to the tourist trade. If you want the real village cooking you have to go to mountain villages or maybe Gavdos. Seen any goat in SS? Seen a real 4 hour meze?
There is variety, and they all care. Moussaka here, fish curry there, pork medallions in Mythica, bream out of the sea in Yannis' - it's all part of the way SS operates. I think this variety helps, and is part of the reason people go back. It's not the cultural capital of the world - it hasn't got Hellenic or Byzantine ruins - but what it has is friendly people trying to carve out their distinctive food niche. Good luck to them!
-
Just got back in after a night out including Mythica. All i can say it was ok! Had peppered steak and Pam had stuffed chicken. She said it was no better or worse than something id cook! I know loads like it and Sellsy loved it whilst he was here but to me just ok considering it cost 40€ for the two of us.
Also thought the service was ok, nothing spectacular

Fair comment Jimo but you will be clapping along to the dancing with the rest of us in the Little Prince come late September ;)

-
Gillywoo - your are right! As we're staying there, we have to in any case,
We will also be doing the same thing in Zorba's whilst my dearest and plenty of other women (maybe even some blokes!) ogle O Vasilis' bum. I will avert my eyes and concentrate on the lamb with apricot, which will be about four times as much as I can eat. Then the guys with the accordion will come around and I'll have to avert my eyes even further, by which time my head will be so far around to the back I'll look like a clip from The Exorcist. (Note to Don and Tony: don't bother saying I already do!)
-
I really can imagine Jimbo's head rotating as bums wiggle by - sorry mate - that's a dead give-away!! LOL
-
Just back from SS, had a smashing meal in Mythica, smart table, attentive service etc. Have to say however that the overall dining experience, due to the extra interest shown in our wellbeing and enjoyment, was found at Ozzie Oils. In our opinion the food is on a par, if not better, at Ozzies and the setting is far more interesting with nooks and crannies dotted around the garden setting.Have to say however, Mythica was often turning people away as all covers were booked solid on some nights. Most people we chatted to really rate the food there if not the atmosphere.
-
This time for us the food was as good as normal but the service was a little slower than we have experienced in the past. Still we will go again because we love the food so much. You can always move on after a meal to get any atmosphere you like at any of the SS bars.
-
We had our usual high quality meal at the Mythica, nice menu. Greek or international - we went for international after a week of Greek food,
Brilliant - but as I keep saying, the food in all of San Stefanos has always been to a high standard, especially, compared to some places!
-
For those of you who know her, I am reliably informed the Jenny will not be in the Mythica this year as she apparently has a job in the UK.
-
But the lovely Aris (ex Nafsika) is working in the evening now and it was lovely to catch up with him last week!!
Look forward to seeing all again in August!
Yum
-
Jenny will be there for the month of August
-
jenny was there for a few days in june and will be back in august great food at mythica anybody not been give it a try. yammas
-
We are there in August - and yes another restaurant with a food wow factor for me!
-
Sofrito was gorgeous in here last night
-
We ate there once and to be honest were not that impressed. I had the stuffed chicken which was OK but Jacks really didn't like the chicken stroganoff (too greasy) and Nath was not impressed with the mixed grill either. Maybe it was a bad night but it was enoughto stop us from going again.
-
We had a so-so meal in Mythica last week. Food ok but not as good as in June.
The evening was more spoiled by the fact that the staff seemed to be struggling to cope.
The faces of the people round the neighbouring tables got grumpier and grumpier as they were ignored for
ages. The drinks were delivered speedily enough, then, but it took forever to even get a menu, never mind have
the order taken!
The waiters were so hot and bothered we honestly wondered if they were actually in the kitchen cooking, as well as serving out front!
-
lot of Mythical lovers on here but I'm with you Iris and Richard, never enjoyed it last year so didn't go back.
-
And me too
Went once last year because everyone here said it was good and so did fellow guests staying at the Romanza. I found the whole Mythica experience a let down. Food was just average and although the service was decent enough there was a distinct lack of atmosphere I thought. It was very quiet. I remember someone knocking a fork off the table and it went with a right clatter such was the lack of background chatter or ambience!
-
We went in June although the food was good the service was poor we were lucky we ate about 8ish by 8.30 people were arriving none of the specials were left and quite a few things on the menu were sold out. People were waiting for menus as there was not enough to go round (not that busy really) then once they placed order starters took more than forty minutes the couple next to us only had bread for the starter 50 minutes later still no food when left and had finished their wine were fed up of waiting. Shame really my husband said it was the best starter all holiday and mine the main but put us off going back
-
I posted on this topic July 2010 and it looks like there have been a few more not so impressed customers, I really hope they get back to being one of the top restaurants in San Steph because Jenny and Leo certainly deserve it, And we will be back this year.
-
We ate at Mythica last August (2011) and we were very impressed. Excellent value for good quality food, set menu at 10 euro on a par with our favorite UK place which charges £23.
-
Always surprised at the differing views here - I always speak as I find and so far, apart from a bit of a wait one evening - always been very good!
-
The wait aint a problem on holiday, can always order another carafe of house wine hic !
-
I agree Tony. The wait has never been a problem and the food when we have been has always been worth it.
-
We ate there several times in September and I have to say it has replaced Olympia as my favourtie, although my husband still prefers Olympia.
I had the stiffado - the meat was beautifully tender.
On one night we even had a power cut and that didn't seem to bother them, they just came out with a couple of gas lamps.
All in all a good time was had.
-
Maybe it's like Marmite - you love or hate it!! LOL
-
We love it
-
we love it too
-
Just read on the other thread that it will not open this year - what a shame!!
-
From what I have heard the closing of The Mythica may not be restricted to this year only.
-
Are you able to say what you have heard about the closing of Mythica? It was one of our favourite places to eat and I am so sorry to hear that it will not be opening this year.
Katie
-
I'm sure Jenny & Leo won't mind me saying.
Jenny & Leo are staying in the UK, both have good jobs, with the uncertainty in Greece at present they are probably better off (financially) staying there. They were in Corfu in early March making the final decision.
Jenny tells me that they are returning to San Stefanos on at least three occasions this year, I don't know what dates. I hope we can meet up with them.
My wife and I will miss it as much as everyone else, as well as eating there most evenings we also stopped off at lunchtimes for a light snack and drinks as well as a good chat to Jenny and Leo.
-
Thank you Waspman. I am pleased things are going well for them both in England and wish them the very best for the future.
We will really miss our nights out at Mythica when we return in September.
Katie
-
We also wish them the best and hope it works!
The Mythica will be missed of course.
-
Took friends there last year had a good meal and was going to go again but guess I wont be now .Good luck jenny and leo ..Are you ever going to open again.I do hope so .
-
We are lucky - an equally good venue next door and with Kerri singing!!
-
if that is the new restaurent b4 town pizza, it has now closed. We were there last week and it wasnt open.newspapers on the windows.
-
The restaurant before the Town Pizza is the Mythica (now closed)
-
Ozzie Oils, worth a shot!,
-
Agree Tony, Ozzie Oils well worth a visit. Personally preferred it to Mythica - but only just.
-
and go on the right night for entertainment as well!
-
Lots of lovely places to eat in SS-depends on personal taste - Little Prince and Yiannis opposite where Mythica was are two of my favourites!! Great food and hospitality second to none!! Going home tomorrow but will return in September. :)
-
Of course you are right, and just about everywhere cooks great food, so you can't go wrong.
Personal taste and preferences always rule - but the resort food is great.
My problem is trying to decide which!!
