San Stefanos news and views / Re: Help
« on: April 15, 2010, 01:16:03 AM »
Hi everyone,

Can someone help me please.  I need the name of the lovely friendly owner and the postal address of "Two Stars".  What happened you see, was when my wife and I were in San Stef last year we got chatty with him and he gave us a bottle of "Two Star" red wine for us to take home.  Now the deal was that we would take a photograph of us both drinking the wine on Christmas Day and send him the photograph.  The first part wasn't a problem (drinking the cheeky red, that is) and indeed we took a lovely festive photo, but the address happened to be on the label of the bottle.  Yes, you're way ahead of me.  The bottle is presently being recycled and no doubt our "bottling" paths will cross again, unfortunately we forgot to write down the address.  Now we are returning to San Stef in June and I could give him the photo then, but a deals a deal.  Any help is much appreciated.

Rod. Hello Rod, Just reading the label on 2 Stars wine bottle. Address is 2 Stars Restaurant Grill Bar. AG Stefanos-Avliotes-Corfu. tel no 26630 52108. You will have to check international code. I will now sample the 2 stars red, Yammas

Apparantly the Greek government are €50billion in debt. Probably about the same as UK. I think it will hit people over there more than tourists. just hope that we do not see any one business going under like we have here.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: This Will Totally Ruin San Stephanos
« on: February 09, 2010, 02:24:47 AM »
I am not sure how many people realise this but plans are being drawn up to build a huge Wind Farm just off shore from San Steph that will totally ruin the town and probably the tourist trade on which it depends.

As the Website below explains the proposal is to build 300 Wind Turbines each 550feet high, they will be situated around each of the Diapontian islands including Donkey Island just off the coast of San Steph.

http://www.aioliko.com/

This site if built will totally destroy the San Steph seascape, who will want to lie on the beach and relax in San Steph with the noise and flicker from 300 Wind Turbines for company? The famous San Steph sunset will be broken up by the line of these huge structures and the flicker at sunset will be cast across the town at dusk.

Construction of the Wind Farm will involve the movement of thousands of heavy plant and machinery and such a large industrial construction site will have a profound affect om the remote Corfu North East landscape.

If you look at the Website you will see a map of the proposed Wind Farm location and as you can see the closest turbines will be just half a mile from the beach and will tower 550feet above the sea, a similar height to Blackpool Tower.

If this goes ahead then many people including myself would be put off visiting San Steph and I am worried that it could destroy the tourist trade in the town.

If you are worried as well please sign the petition on the Website and conserve San Steph for the locals and tourists alike.

Andy
Thanks for the info Andy. We have got quite a few peope to sign the petition, even people who have never been to San Stef are signing it.

Where to stay / Re: Athens bar apartments
« on: October 01, 2009, 12:29:54 AM »
Hi. Has anybody got any info on these appts,e-mail address or photo,s they look really nice from outside so was wondering how much they charge for 2 weeks in August. Usually book next years holiday as soon as we get home but are waiting for easy jet prices from Bristol for August 2010.
We have stayed in Athens appts for last 3 years and booked for next year Nikos charges 600 euros for the 2 weeks. Price not gone up but exchange rate makes big difference especially when you add cost of flights. Some peope we know have gone back to booking package.

The reason I have so many flights is to try and get rid of all of the sausage, I think I will have to add another 1000 to that before I get rid of them all.

I have been travelling with Thomson for more years than I can shake a stick at, and have always had the in flight meal even though it has always seemed dear for what you got. We went through the Aldo Zilli phase- didn't notice much difference there I have to say- but in 2008 things went noticeably downhill in that the prices went up and what you got decreased, on this occasion there was only one thimble of tea or coffee.
This year at an eye watering £7.50 each even further reductions in what is given. No cheese and biscuit, meals out and back were laughably called 'MASH' but reminded me of Smash, or for those longer in the tooth Pomme. The sausages repeated on me for 24 hours and I do not suffer from indigestion, the starter was awful, and still only one thimble of tea, in my case it had froth on it and looked and tasted like dishwater.
Thats it for me with their overpriced crap, its a roll or two from now on that we do ourselves so we do not suffer the aftereffects at a great cost.

Totally agree, the meals are absolute crap. The last six fights I have been on have consisted of sausage and mash, no cheese and biscuits and we are down to one celebration chocolate. We wil be going self catering on our next flight. Bacon sandwiches sound good to me
