Hi Chris. Welcome to the forums. The Athina is situated on the beach and boasts just about the biggest pool in Corfu. We have never stayed at Athina but you have picked a great resort in SS and many of us have returned year after year.

Hi Chris R
Welcome to the forum.
I stayed at the Athina a few years ago now. No Kettles then, Safes were in reception, not in room - but fine!!
Great sunset view!! Brilliant Pool, nice Pool bar - try to make the owner smile - it's a game we all play!!

Athina is half board, you can get tea/coffee by popping to the bar.
We usually take our own kettle for the half-board hotels there.
Supermarket - walk along the service road, past a brilliant bar run by Glen and Maria, called Aquarios.
at end of road (approx 70yds) - turn left past Spiros Motorcycle/cycle/quad bike hire shop, supermarket is about 25 yds away.
buy large bottled water, (cheap) from SAM, (american accent) and fill kettle that way, tastes better!
Sam also runs keep-fit kick-boxing classes! Lovely family!!
Nice Hotel - but eat out some nights as well - try the Beachcomber Bistro - brilliant food and setting
Mythica Restaurant and Ozzie Oils for great food cooked differently!

The Athina is a great hotel, but food ok & average it must be said - (still ok though).
breakfast - small charge for a cooked one.

I know you paid H/Board, but it would be a waste if you didn't try one of the before mentioned restaurants - superb! Check their menus!
Also if you want a fun restaurant with good Greek dancing - try Little Prince (Brill Sizzling Steak) or Zorba's, even if just drinks!!
Thomas Bay Hotel has a great atmosphere in the evenings, Karaoke - quiz night - occasional show/act.
Condor is good for all ages for a show/act or a DJ inspired dance, - very family friendly!!
Before buying excursions from thomsons - try Noula a San Stefanos Travel - mainly the same trips - fully insured and cheaper!!

Yammas - have a good holiday!
Tony

Hello Chris

Tony has said it all regarding the Athena, leaving me with nothing else to add. We stayed there 3 years ago, the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Enjoy our holiday and pop in to see Glen and Maria at The Aquarus Bar on the road leading to the hotel you will be made very welcome.

Sue

welcome to the forum chris
just to let you know you have picked one of the nicest hotels in s/steff for veiws of the sea and one of the biggest pool i think in corfu as for the hotel we have stayed twice in 2009 in the may and in sept food was okay if you like small potions im a big person hungary most of the time on holidays if you want a full english it costs three euros extra per day as for the entertainment there was,nt any we went to the thomas bay hotel every night for the fun and the [crack as the irish say] the safe boxs are free and keep in the office in reception you can get you water from the hotel reception six litre bottels was two euro just as cheap as the shops saves you carrying it back.hope you enjoy youselfs like we did there .yammas mike ::) ;D :-* :'( :D :)

If my memory is correct there is a "mini-bar" fridge in every room as well - just no contents!!
good for the water!
There is a charge for air-con if you require it - see reception!

Chris R, We are staying at the Thomas Bay Hotel - not far from yours.
We arrive on the 31st August for two weeks.
Be great to say hello one evening!!
Also we usually call in at the Aquarios bar, 6pm onwards,
on the way home from the beach to say Hi to Glen & Maria who run it.
Best cup of Chocolate anywhere!! Great pint in a frozen glass as well and very nice wine!!
You can also pick up a free wi-fi connection if you sit on a table nearest to the Athina,
should you be mad enough to get your emails on Holiday!! LOL (I've been know to take the netbook and do the odd post on here!!)
Nice food snacks etc as well. Most importantly - clean toilets!!

Nice feel-good bar
Come back on the forum a couple of weeks before departure and we'll make some loose arrangements,
there should also be some other forum members around,
1st Sept for example, we may eat somewhere like Aussie Oils, or drinks, and later to finish in Aquarios or T/Bay.
But you'll see the posts - Jules is there also Suela and a few others!!

Car hire at the end of the road from Athina and opposite the Condor.
There is another company in Arillas who do it slightly cheaper,
but the above one looks after his customers really well and all in good condition and fully insured.

tony co i think the car hire man has had to move because the owner of bar 39 that owns the land has moved bar 39 across the road on to the car lot and i think car hire has gone up the main road passed ossie oil ,mike ::) ;D :'(

Ok - I knew BAR38 was moving but not sure where. That sounds about right.
There was a Car-hire already just past the WWW cafe', so lets hope he's found new premises.
Easy solution - just go into San Stefanos Travel as she will get you really good prices, same as going direct. (she just gets a bit of commission).
Last year she dealt with the same car-hire as mentioned also one in Arillas and another in Sidari if the cars had all gone.

BAR39 ------ Now I know about the financial problems in Greece. Inflation even hits at Bar names !   LOL

If Billy and Peter are still on duty round at the  Kamini they are worth getting to know. (If you are a fifteen year old lad I mean!) Both brill guys ... good with oldies but welconing and helpful to younger visitors too.
