San Stefanos news and views / Re: Rip off thomson 2011

We always book through our local Thomson office as a package deal.  We go online first as they offer discount, we then take a copy to Thomson office and they always match the online price if you ask.   We booked in January for 1st July for 2 weeks and have paid £1082 at Stamatis including flight meals etc. slightly down on last year.  Never looked at booking flights accomodation etc seperately, always been a bit nervous for some reason but it seems to work for a lot of people so may try this next year!

We will just miss you Peter.  Yes Waspman, dinner at Nafsika most nights.  Love the food and atmosphere there.  Haven't found anywhere to match it yet!

Where to stay / Re: Barras, Little Prince or Stamatis?
« on: September 17, 2010, 06:46:15 PM »
Hi

We have stayed in Stamatis Apartments for last 8 years.  Tom the owner is great and nothing is too much trouble.  The studios for 2 are very small so we always stay in studio for 3 which are very comfortable and spacious. Always found the apartments very quiet as they stand back from the road but everything is very central.   Fantastic pool area if that is your thing, we tend to go onto beach, but always have a snack there when we come off the beach. We always get a warm greeting from Tom on our arrival and he is always there to see us off at the end of our holiday, no matter what time of the night or morning it is!Cannot comment on the others as we always go back to Stamatis, but they both have good reviews. Speaks for itself I guess!!  Hope this helps and happy holidays!!

Being San Stef regulars for 7 years now, we too have thought about this, but we remind ourselves that is a holiday and it would be completely different living there, especially in the winter as I understand they have a lot of rain (bit like England then!!) Would be nice to have an apartment to visit several months of the year though. Hmm dream on!!

We always take sterling traveller cheques as I find you get a better rate abroad than in UK.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: transfers
« on: July 22, 2010, 05:03:21 PM »
I reported previously on this site about our nightmare transfer with Thomsons.  Took 3 hours from airport to resort.  Driver appeared lost and spent a lot of time on phone too!  When we eventually reached San Stefanos we got off coach and walked last few hundred yards! Complained to Thomson rep who was actively collecting complaints re transfers, in the hope of improving service.  This was on 18th June, so looks like they still have problems.  We boarded our coach to the airport at 7.50 and after a magical mystery tour, ended up  back about 100 yards from our pick up at 9 am!!  Another 3 hour journey back to airport.  I would encourage any Thomson travellers to make a complaint to Rep if you have same problems.  They are using a different bus company this year, obviously a bad choice for all of us!!  Happy hols!! ;)

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Supermarket prices
« on: June 19, 2010, 07:35:08 PM »
We don't buy much from supermarket, just basics.  Water was 1.80 for 6 pack. Toilet roll 95 cents. Ran out of sun cream and Nivea factor 6 was 12 euros.  Higher factors were up to 15 euros.  cheaper to eat breakfast out we found. Cereals, biscuits etc are always expensive we find.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Holiday Insurance
« on: June 19, 2010, 07:28:14 PM »
Our holiday insurance is with the bank I work for.  Just a word of warning with any insurance company.  I once again visited the local friendly doctor in San Stef which is a private clinic, with my wretched infected mosquito bites and I only had to pay 5 euros for the pleasure of 2 steroid injections in my bottom!!  Your holiday insurance will cover you, but normally most policies have an excess of £40 to £65, which means that you have to pay that to the surgery and you obviously do not get that back, so it can be an expensive visit should you need to see the doctor.  I paid an excess waiver fee of £11 so that I do not have to pay the excess.  So it is always a saving for me to pay that fee.  Most companies should have this option.

Hi All!

Just back from San Stef yesterday :(  Had a fantastic time as always. Our first week was very quiet but busier the second week.  Weather wise, we only had a couple of cloudy days and rest of the time very hot and sunny. It was very humid for a couple of days but no storms whilst we were there,  Very warm in the evenings too.  The beach was fine.  It certainly seemed deeper down the 'nudie ' end but still okay at sunbed end, so obviously recovered from previous weeks. Euro rate was 1.18.  We didn't notice any large price increases from last year and we always eat out as we stay at Stamatis Apartments.  For those that hire cars, petrol was about 1.59.  For those who know Vangelis from Nafsika, he is not working there this year as his mother has recently died and he has decided not to work there this year but he is still doing his fishing.  Spent some time with Hilary from Bar 38, she is doing very well and Spiros is improving slowly.  Good news for all that know him!  She was hoping to open Bar 38 today but was not sure if it would be ready.  Looks a great place though, very chic!!  Word of warning for anyone with Thomsons.  Coach transfer in took 3 hours, driver appeared to get lost on our way in.  We got off bus and walked last few hundred yards with our cases  as we were so cheesed off!  We were told by one of the hotel owners that Thomsons were using a new bus company and they were having problems with coach transfers.  We spoke to our rep and she was actively collecting complaint reports so she could put these forward to her Manager to try and improve the service.  We hoped for better things on our journey to airport.  Picked up at 7.50 am.  Went round San Stefanos then to Arrillas and ended back in San Stefanos at about 9 am just yards from our apartments! >:( Whole journey took about 2 and half hours!  Anyway hope you all have a good holiday when you get there!

Where to stay / Re: Stamatis 4th June Hurray!!
« on: June 03, 2010, 12:21:06 AM »
Thanks Don.  Will do!  We stayed in the small apartments once at Stamatis but just a bit too small for us.  However the Studios for 3 are just right for us and as you say, you spend very little time in them anyway!  Haven't tried any other accomodation but they all sound good from what I hear.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Beechcomber/waves

I have to agree with you all. I have only just found this site and it is very informative. There is always someone who will know the answer to your question on here!  It has certainly got me in the mood for my 7th holiday in San Stef ( 2 more sleeps)!!  The banter on here just shows the type of fun people that keep returning to this lovely friendly village! :)

Hi Tony and Linda

Will do.  Yes he is great to talk to.  They all have a character of their own don't they.  Chris is still very shy though!  We still see George around, who used to work there and his little nephew, George who has been working in Bar 38  for last couple of years.  Have watched him 'bloom' from a sweet 13 year old!
