Has Dimitri got his ar*e into gear and opened up this year? When i spoke to him in May he was talking of a new menu, so if open what is new??
-
When we were there last week we used Nonda's pool. We were told that the chef had broken his knee and wouldn't be opening this year.
-
Thats a shame as we always try to get to Elpitha's at least once during our stay - such a lovely setting and have always had a good meal there.
-
I imagine that dragging a broken knee up killer hill is a No-No!!
Shame - the first innovative menu in S S at the time!!
I always enjoyed the Elpitha food!
-
It was Dimitri's brother that had knee problems he told me in May, but spoke as if he was coming along fine- obviously not then. Bet the folks staying at Nondas are none too happy again this year :-\
-
No - bit of a trek back up killer hill after a bottle or two of wine + mythos, on a full stomach! LOL
-
Go the opposite way - Through Nonda's bungalows - Down the "step ladder" - Out through Peli & Marias - Also less arduous path behind the Little Prince and out by Tasty Corner !
-
So it really works then - what exactly is the stepladder?
-
A wooden thing with steps pushed up to the wall with a breeze block and an iron pole embedded into the wall,
-
Is this thing safe??
-
We coped. Nonda's missus coped. Peter Sadler coped daily.
-
Of course Peter coped - he's the strongest bloke in San Stefanos!! LOL
The question was is it safe?
Was it as easy to get down as up - I always find Ladders can be dicey going down!

2 rungs and a breeze block

Spoke with Rita & Terry tonight who have just returned from SS - they stayed in apartments / pool next to Elpitha's - and they have reported back that it looks unlikely Elpitha's will open this year due to the knee problem - certainly wasn't fixed last week. And also Olive Press not yet opened although George was making noises that it would very shortly - lets hope so
-
hi guys,
when we were there in may, heard about said knee injury......but also heard that they were selling up.....so maybe it wont be open at all ???!!!!
Sarah

Elpitha was laid out as a lounge when we were there. Very comfy too.I do though want to eat there!
-
So was the bar open and what was Dimitri doing??
-
Dimitri was doing some lounging. Driving off for ice cream, swimming and performing the odd bar-like duty!
-
Normal service then, one night many years ago when we stayed with Nondas,
he went out, Dimitri, gave us the keys to the bar and a jar to put the money in!! - and we did!!
-
tony same thing at manthos many years ago
did you find you put more dracs in than you had spent we did
-
Yes - LOL - had too - lost count!!!
-
We are out on the 17th, so has anything stirred at the Elpitha??
-
Swedebasher, we stayed at Tsaros, came home a week ago, nothing happening at the restaurant, I did ask if it would be opening and was told no. Hope this helps. Don't know if you have ever tried Beachcomber but if not give it a go, brilliant food. I have done a restaurants review of the places that we dined at if you want to take a look.
-
Thanks Lilly, we have been going for over 20 years so know the place well, but always frequented the Elpitha because it offered something different to the rest. Mistral is tops for me at SS or Armourada at Arillas.
-
Don't forget to check out Beachcomber Bistro, Nikki is the chef who used to cook at Elphita, she is happy to cook any of the old menu dishes from Elthipa as well!
Just ask!
-
Ahhhhh...the celery done in blue cheese sauce :-*

Tony - AKA Jules - Just how many ways are there of spelling Elpitha? ::)
-
Oooooh Don -- you bitch!
-
Yes Jimbo - - she really is - - Donetta - - Ouch!
-
Sorry - Just taking the El-pitha .... Excuse the lithp !
-
That'll cost you a Mythos!! LOL
-
Can the first one out in early May kindly see if Sally and Dimitri will be opening this year, or Lesley should you beat everyone. I thang kyew.
-
Okay, I did hear there was a possibility they were moving the premises to up the road near Kathy's supermarket, but in fairness haven't had that confirmed, so watch this space.......
-
Is that near the Sunset? - Long way for the Nondas Guests to go!!
-
Yes it would be but I drove past today and there is no work going at mo there to turn it into other than as it stands presently which is an empty shop, used to be the hairdressers.
-
Is it big enough??
-
Will keep you informed but maybe its one of those village rumours after the winter....... Wherever they are I love the food.........
-
Agree on the food and always loved Dimitri's choice of background music - great atmosphere - but the old Monroes?? too small!!
-
Elpitha was never that large, we found it necessary to pre book a table to be sure, as I have seen many people unable to get in. Pretty sure that Sally was doing some snacks and stuff last year. Dimitri introduced me to the music of Madeleine Peyroux, which I found rather good for an old country rocker!!
-
Yeah!! love his choice of music, but while the "old" restaurant was small, you were seated outside with that great view,it felt good!
Where would you seat at Monroes??
-
I am sure someone will confirm soon and I can book a Table!!
-
Saw Dimitris and he confirmed they would be moving opposite the Sunset by July!
-
Ok - he is running the 3 Princes Bar right now!!

Where is the 3 Princes Bar?
-
He did mention it nor did i ask.
-
Alan texted me that - I think he means the bar for Little Prince in some strange text language, I did ask for clarification, and am, waiting still!!
Hmmmm!!!!!
Alan texted me earlier, they had lunch at the Fantasea and chatted to Kostas, he say's the menu is really impressive and the food great!
Worth a try and worth the extra few metres walk!
I'll let you know what he means ASAP

Thanks Kathryn - that all makes perfect sense!
-
Dimitri is no longer running the Little Prince bar as of last Saturday. I understand that he intends to re-open Elpitha's with his brother. It may already be up and running bvut have not been up that way in the last few days.
-
Maybe the gorgeous Sharka will come back to LP bar :-)
-
It's all change again! LOL
-
There is now a lovely Canadian lass working at the LP bar. Her name is Wallis and she was born in Paisley in Scotland. Now lives in Vancouver. Not much difference!
-
Are there ANY Scots left in Scotland?
-
Nae wee laddie !
-
When I was there they removed the sign at the bottom of the hill- so now they can put it back!
-
Wallis? What an unusual name for a Scottish lass.
Now, I would never, ever imagine that a baby girl born in Paisley would be christened Wallis by her parents. I kinda understand why she left. I wonder if she was conceived in the changing room of the high street chain. That would fit!
-
Probably mixed Scottish/Canadian parentage. I'll ask her in 21 days time!!!!!
-
Careful, she may come at you with a sword!! LOL
-
elpitha opened 10th june dimitri back and brother doing cooking
-
Just a short cut over the stile! Will have to give it a try.
-
That'll be one on our list as well!
-
So Elpitha is still one of my favourite tavernas in SS, even though it did not open last year.
Does anybody (Lesley?) know if Dimitri will be opening this year?
I hope he plans to, although i think the chances of it being open for our arrival in May is slim to none. Heres to hoping.....
-
I did see Nondas was for sale?
-
I'm in London (on my hols) so will find out when I get back mid April re Elpitha's for this summer?

Thanks Lesley, would appreciate it and enjoy your hols. :)
-
Have been asking around haven't forgotten......
-
Thanks Lesley.
-
Any sign of any activity up at the bistro yet?
-
Spoke to Dimitris at the weekend, and he said that he was not opening the restaurant this year.

Yes I spoke to him myself a few times last week. Such a shame they won't be opening but he doesn't seem too fussed!
Thanks for replying in the thread though!
-
I think you're right! He's enjoying life too much to work :)
-
Doesn't he still help out in other venues?
-

He certainly wasn't when we were there, maybe as the season gets busier though?
-
He's been a friend since they arrived from Athens so many years ago - be nice to see him again ....
-
Ive just had a walk down the back path to Nondas..... nearly got eaten by a chained up Rotweiller

Haha this made me laugh Gav because I did exactly the same. I walked down past the first 2 apartments and it came out of the end one barking and growling, I ran off thinking it was coming after me, I didn't look back to see it was chained up! My wife was in stitches.
(Btw check your messages)
-
Is this dog staying at Nondas in an apartment? or did I pick this up all wrong. We are staying at Nondas and don't fancy having to get past a Rottweiler everytime we are going out or in! :o
-
No no no!
It's chained in an apartment, in locked grounds past the Nondas apartments, actually closer to the Theodosia apartment block. Absolutely nothing to worry about!

Thank goodness I thought I was going to have to find somewhere else to stay ::) Rottweilers are the only dogs that I am absolutely terrified off.
D@G Thanks for your reply :)
-

I am pleased to say the dog is no longer there. It is away to corfu town with Nondas son Speros.
-
So according to FB the Elpitha Bistro will be opening again this year!!
-
Have also read that it's opening this year and also seen a few photo's
-
Sally from Nondas posted the new facebook page to me yesterday. I have copied and pasted a few of the lines on the page for non facebook people to see. I looked for a web page but couldn't find one.
Welcome everyone!
We are very excited to announce the reopening of Elpida's bistro this summer season in the picturesque town of San Stefanos, Corfu.
With a creative new breakfast, lunch & evening menu for the Bistro we are looking forward to seeing all our familiar & new faces.
See you all soon! Sally
