Looking to hire a scooter or quad on our visit in September, just to get around a little more.We are in our mid 50,s so not hells angel types, lol .Is it advisable to declare this on my holiday insurance ?.Thanks for any advice folks.

Don't think it matters how old you are! I do not know what will happen if you "declare" that you intend to use a scooter. I know I am not covered, and suspect they will not cover you. Best to find out though before you go ahead.

I would if I was you as the insurance you get with a quad bike is only 3rd party. Your own insurance may be able to add it on for a small additional premium.
-
Speaking as an Insurance Broker any decent policy would cover you automatically for any medical claim as a result of an accident on a scooter or quad. It is only 3rd Party cover in regards to the cover the hirer supplies - you cannot extend holiday insurance to cover damage to the vehicle.

You are correct Richard et al! We are covered as long as we have the relevant UK licence, and wear helmets. It is climbing and some "sports" which are excluded.
-
I should hope I am - I've been a broker for 25 years 8)

Thanks to you all for the very helpful replies, much appreciated folks.

Always read the terms and conditions, the thing we usually brush over...
I get free Annual Travel Insurance as part of my bank account deal (not really free of course)....
It excludes quad bike cover, but allows you to hire a scooter without any problem...
