Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Delfino Blu

If you want luxury at a third of the price stay at the Fedra Mare! I bet our two floor double balcony sea view apartment is bigger than those at the Delfino Blue. You really have to look round these apartments to appreciate how wonderful they are. As for the pool the FM pool is bigger than DB and has many fewer guests using it. Andy

Where to stay / Re: Corfu in October
« on: October 02, 2012, 07:11:24 PM »
Another warm sunny day today with a light breeze, the temperature is a good 5c above average reaching 27c this afternoon, the forecast is for similar weather for the next 10 days. Coming in October is however a risk and i have known several Octobers that saw a lot more rain than sun, my advice is go at the same time as Jimbo, the sun follows him around! Andy

Information and help please / Re: What's occurring?

When we were there in May all you have mentioned were open.

Paradise was shut and I believe will not open this year. Mythica is a sad sight - totally empty with a 'for rent' sign.

All supermarkets open - except for Kathys, with a new one about to open (opposite the bag shop).

Hi Lesley,

What a nice story, it reminds me of an evening last year when Gill and I were at a back street Taverna in Corfu Town when some young Greeks suddenly got out a Bouzouki and started singing lovely Greek songs.

It didnt matter that we couldnt understand the words it created a lovely atmosphere and it was great to see Greek youngsters enjoying traditional Greek music and songs.

Impromtu Greek nights like that are what makes the country so special.

I know both hills well and I would say the hill to the Kapatanios is similar (but no worse) than the one in Pefkos.

The only time it can be a bit difficult is during the heat of the afternoon so take half a litre of water and take it steady, you can always stop at the Terasa and have a beer en route!

Once you are at the Kapatanios the view is worth it.

We are staying at the Romanza in a few weeks and that is further up the hill so we might have a Mythos at the Kapatanious on the way!

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: The first Supper!

Starter - hard one, too many to choose from - that's why we often make a meze from a selection of starters instead of having a large main meal!
Main course - Bom Bom Lamb - Little Prince
Dessert- don't bother - have had too many carafes of wine by then, although I'm sure it evaporates in the heat.

Agree with jimbo, I am taking cash this year and plenty of it!

The hole in the wall at thomas bay was always dodgy so why risk it, the whole of Europe is in crises not just Greece but I don't give a sh*t, all I want is warm sunny days and great taverna nights and I know in San Steph I wil not be disappointed.

As the song goes 'enjoy yourself it's later than you think'

The pound is on the slide this week, Thomas Cook has dropped 2 cents to 1.18 so I changed mine with the Post Office and got exactly 1.20.

O.K. it might go up but I couldnt afford the risk of it dropping further.

1.20 is still good compared to the last few years but if the Euro crises does ease then the rate could nose dive quickly.

We got home in the early hours of this morning and it's cold!!!!!!  Have to agree the only place that seemed to be buzzing every evening was Little Prince. My Grandaughter age 5 fell in love with Thannasis. If you go in tell him Maddie says Hi and misses him already. We left SS at 8.0pm and it looked like the weather was clouding over a bit.

Yes, we noticed that as well when we were in San Stef a couple of weels ago.

However, I am not surprised, its our favourite Taverna and this year the entertainment is great with Spiros and Thannasis now joined by Alex.

We found the food superb as well and if money is tight you can enjoy the specials with wine for aound 10e or £8 each.......cracking value!

Just 3 weeks to go and I will be into my second Saganaki and Bom, Bom Lamb of the week ;D

Andy -me thinks you are one of those people who KNOW when to book!

Hi Debra,

The weather is a bit of a hobby of mine so I usually know what the weather will be like in Corfu up to 10 days out.

However, I dont always get it right! ;)

Today, Sunday the weather is cool and thundery in Corfu and only 18c! This compares to 26c-28c over most parts of the UK.

This was definantly one weekend to stay at home!!

If you are in Corfu dont worry, it will be much better tomorrow.

Gill and I had a walk to Arillas across the cliffs yesterday and as the photograph shows a new path has been made about 3 metres inland from the old one which is now only a foot wide in places.

So the view remains the same but the new path isnt as exciting as the old one where a safety rope was becoming essential!

Hi everyone,

Its another lovely morning here and its already 22c.

Although we have only come for 3 days it seems longer than that probably because we come to San Stef so often.

We put the weekend together by flying out from Birmingham with Thomsons (£75each) and back with Thomas Cook  (£25 each!), these prices were well below those for Easyjet or Ryan Air and the flight times are great.

We booked the Tsaros through Thomsons and paid £33 for a two bedroom apartment, that works out at £5.50 a day each, remarkable good value.

Its aleways worth checking Thomson/Thomas Cook flight prices because at short notice they are often cheaper than Easyjet etc.

To get to San Stef we hire a car through Corfu Value Plus, it was £60 and even after we put petrol in that works out £30 cheaper than booking a taxi and you have a car for the weekend!

Other news, the Sunset Bar is open despite what I heard, the Olga is having a face lift and the Delphino Blue still isnt finished. The Havana Bar has also had a facelift and looks very smart.

We went to the Athina Pool yesterday and was greeted with big smiles and handshakes by George, I have never seen him so cheerful!

We are finding that our money is going much further because of the exchange rate so San Stef is really good value this year, Taverna prices are very good but supermarkets are still expensive.

Half Term will be expensive but Thomsons are now selling a week at the Theresas in late June for just £275 including breakfast and transfers, that really is fantastic value so why anyone would want to book a souless All Inclusive resort is beyound me.

Anyway, off to Arillas now to walk off the excess alcohol following last nights binge drinking at the Little Prince!

Yammas!
