Where to stay / Re: Corfu in October

We've been going to Agios Stefanos for the last 20+ years, last year did a long weekend towards the end of October - never again. Cold, wet, empty and mostly closed.

But we're all different, I'm sure there are those who like it that time of year.

We venture up to Gravia and Akrotiri via the path to the right of Nafsika (looking from the beach).

It's a bit shorter than the path past the juice bar but a little steeper, just stop now and then and take in the views.

Problem with this path however is that towards the top it gets narrow and is getting overgrown a bit, maybe the owners of Akrotiri may want to get the strimmer out and clear it  ;).

But whichever way you go up - just go up - it's very much worth the effort.

Also if you like eating and drinking with great views - try Avionis. But I wouldn't walk, bike or taxi for me.  :D

Hi,

This year somewhere new for us - The Angela Villa, (100 yards up the hill to the right of Nafsika (red Villa with a pool)).

Anyone got any past experiances of it ?

Thanks

Even better - maybe hire a boat from the gob-smackingly gorgeous girls at San Stef Travel and approach from the sea. Might do that this year.

We did just that last year and then took it down to Palio - don't like Palio very crowded and the teverna's are not good and very over priced.
Anyway Agios Georgios..... when you 'park' the boat make sure you park well away from other boats (some look expensive). The under current is pretty bad and ours moved even with the parking brake applied ! (Anchor to you land lovers) !!

Reflecting on the 4 days that I've just returned from - I won’t be rushing back so late again.

I know its pot luck with the weather, and we all say we don't go for the weather but its no fun sitting inside when it's raining and cold.

And the village was so empty, with many places closed - in my opinion lacking much of the atmosphere we all love about Agios Stefanos.

But we did get 1 and 1/2 days of 'nice' weather, and thanks to a Quad, from Spiros bikes, spent the days at Akrotiri, Gravia  and a bit further afield in the restaurants of Avionis.  - Those of you who have not been to Avionis need to go, stunning views of St George and Arillas, good restaurants too.

The nights spent in the Nafsika - Theodora cooking as always un-missable. Way too much wine though!

So our next visit will be a week at the end of May and then a fortnight at the end of August.

These are just our thoughts, we don't mean to upset people who love it this time of year.

Ok, so arrived last night and very quiet, I'd say 50 people in the whole o fthe village! Still gorgeous though. Eating inside at Nafsika, as always - great food.
This morning we sun bathed by the pool for an hour 30+ degrees, then the thunder and lightening came - good fun.
Hired a quad from Spiros and went to Akrotiri and the Arilas and current having great lunch at Gravia.
Talking to the businesses - Speros mat Nafsika and Nikos at Athens - the village will close on Friday 21st October.

"Gravia and Akrotiri are still open, also Ozzie Oil, Mythica, Jannis, Condor, Waves, Manthos, Mistral, Town Pizza, 3W, Little Prince, Nafsica, Beachcombers, Summer Dreams, the snack bars, Glen's, 2Star."

How about Athens Bar - surely nico will see the season out ??

Good post Jimbo, very informative.

We pop out there on Thursday for a long weekend, not so much for the weather just the place and of course Theodora's cooking in the Nafsika.

Do you know if Costas is open (Gravia).

Thanks

Thanks for the replies guys.

After looking around it seems that the last thomson flight out is Friday 28th Oct.

So we are now going between 13th and 17th Oct.

Does anyone know the email address for Costas at Gravia. Will trek the hill if he's open you see.

Thanks,

Hi,

Been to Agios Stefanos many, many times but never at the end of October.

Me and the wife were looking at a long weekend in York or Chester but Ryanair flights mean that it's cheaper to go to AS.!!

Has anyone ever been the last week of October ? It's the last week of the season I think.

I'm wondering if it will all be open ? And what kind of weather we can expect (don't expect a tan top up !)

4 nights with flights, accomodation and car hire £350 - bargain  :)

Thanks for any comments
