I believe the Greek Parliament is debating the latest round of austerity measures and there is to be a general strike this Wednesday.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Elpitha

Dimitri is no longer running the Little Prince bar as of last Saturday. I understand that he intends to re-open Elpitha's with his brother. It may already be up and running bvut have not been up that way in the last few days.

A little bit of bad news on the price front. VAT for food eaten in restaurants will increase from 13% to 23% on 1st September. Don't see how they can absorb such a big rise and I presume that there will have to be an increase in the cost of eating out.

Ozzy Oils was excellent, have been twice and prices are still reasonable there.

For those of you who know her, I am reliably informed the Jenny will not be in the Mythica this year as she apparently has a job in the UK.

Olive Press was not open as of yesterday. I believe the Pizza Place next to Zorbas will not be open this year but haven't passed by at night yet.

Milk has jumped up quite a bit this year, 1.50 euros for a litre. Dairy products in general a lot more expensive. A loaf from the bakery is 90 cents not 85 as in my early post. Just a senior moment! Petrol most places 174.5 per litre currently but did manage to get filled up at 172.5 yesterday, felt great until I paid over 50 euros to put 3/4 of a tank in a Hyundai Getz!

Well off to Ozzy Oils for a meal tonight, will update soon. Beachcomberr v. good on Monday night, as ever a little pricier than most but well worth it.

Where to stay / Re: I've cracked! Going back to San Stef
« on: June 06, 2011, 06:31:47 PM »
Tony, I bought an SX30 last November and have been really pleased with it. Still learning all the various functions but the optical zoom is amazing. It does reach the parts others can't! Enjoy

Little Prince and most others currently 7 euros for special and wine, 9 euros for three course specials. Ozzy Oils doing special plus wine 8 euros. Large
beer is indeed usually 2.50, Three Ws 2.00 euros for 0.4l Mythos last night.  Bread from the bakery eighty five cents as per last year if I remember correctly.

Car hired for four days from Valantis at San Stef car rental for 100 euros, will probably be more in the main season. That's for a Hyundai Getz. Excursions seemk to be at the same prices as last year at the moment.

I'll give you all an update as we go. Yammas

Out and About / Re: Cliff Path This Year
« on: May 25, 2011, 07:25:38 PM »
There are a couple of photos on the arillas.com forum showing that the path is very narrow(and quite scary) at a couple of points. Dimitris, the administrator has also posted a photo showing an alternative route to reach the upper part of the path missing the dodgy bit. I'll be taking that option methinks!

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Excursions with Thomson or Noula
« on: May 15, 2011, 06:26:36 PM »
On our first visit five years ago, we did do one Thomson's trip but it was expensive and did'nt really do as it said on the tin. Have mainly used Noula since with no probs. A trip to one of the islands is well worth doing, Ericousa particularly nice but Othoni was also good last year. There is a local ferry leaves from the harbour to Mathraki and Othoni(used this last year), and it was good value and gives plenty of time on Othoni(the 2nd port of call) to explore. Last year it sailed on Mons, Weds and I think Satuday.

Enjoy.

Lovely to see the place and wonderful weather too. Thanks for the pics, we'll experience the real thing in just over four weeks.

Info on the state of the cliff path to Arillas would be welcome from any early visitors. Like many, we enjoy a stroll to and from Arillas and prefer to use the path coming back.
