San Stefanos news and views / Re: The Ticker Tracker
« on: January 11, 2009, 02:17:45 AM »
 ;D
OK - I worked it out.
To Add the ticker, (or change one), click on a ticker which will take you to the tickerfactory.com (or type it in).
Go to ''holidays and Vacations'' on the Ticker front page, click, then go through the process (easy),
Select by clicking on your selected background banner, go through them by selecting the page numbers below, i.e. 1,2,3,etc.
Select background then click next, select pointer, (aircraft, heart etc.), fill in Date you are going, and local time, (click next),
Highlight and copy (ctrl + C), the bbCode text.
go to this forum and enter / edit your profile, go to the ''Your Signature Box'' (if you already have an old Ticker, delete old text first)
then Paste (ctrl + V) the copied text, into the ''Your Signature Box'' Update your profile - Done!!
Hope this helps anyone who like me forgot the process!!
Regards
Tony

Hi Vikki
We have been travelling to San Stefanos for 27 years now this year, and done a mix of independant travel or Thompsons.
Book your flights first definately - you will always find accomodation!! (** But see below)
We do it on who ever is cheapest each year.
This year we have just booked our Flights for early July with EasyJet - £58 out and £45 return.
I have booked apartments with Noula of San Stefanos Travel. She will be home again on the 4th Jan - Tommorrow.

Last year when we went may/june - Thompsons basic price was £302 for the barras apts for example - when we went - this year the prices are about £150 dearer per person, so stuff 'em. I have gone independant again - but it all depends on the price of the flights!!

** Just check if the accomodation runs Monday - Monday (lots of Apts do this option),
or Fri-Fri for example before you book a flight!!
Book early to secure cheap flights!!
The Efi Apts are nice - most Apt's in San Stef are quite similar in most respects, some are very basic.
I hope this helps - have a good holiday!!
Regards
Tony

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Olive Press
« on: June 16, 2008, 03:18:32 AM »
Simone and George & the Olive Press - do it for me - I have been friends with Simone since she was a Rep.
- so helpful especially when Linda was taken ill one year - she puts herself out for everyone.
Stayed in her villas (Leonidas Villas), many times as well, but it's the Resturant we love most.
The food is great - portions huge - Great service with a smile.
Most importantly, George only buys fresh daily and cooks the lot - no worry about sell by dates in this place.
This is why the meat tastes so good (obviously Georges Chef'ing Skills as well).
I had fresh tomato soup this year, (the best ever), followed by a Combo meal of Chicken breast, pork roll, and Lamb.
The chicken and Pork melted in the Mouth, the Lamb was the equal of Yannis spit roast, the Rosemary Potatoes brilliant.
but check the rest of the menu as well - all really good food.
We had Bailey's Cake for dessert - yum!! Her House wine is very nice too!!
A nice alternative Resturant for a great evening where conversation between tables just seems to flow as part of the ambience!!
Typical of the friendliness of the resort.

Out and About / Re: Best Place to watch the Sunset
« on: May 12, 2008, 04:56:44 AM »
Hi Ian

I always take sunset shots, every year I try to get a better one, I have tried pictures all the above places as well.
My best couple of pictures were taken from the following;

The road about 300 metres past the Romanza heading out of town towards Avliotes.
I managed to capture a fishing boat just entering the 'Red' suns beam - still a great shot on an older camera.

Athena Hotel, stand just to the right of the wall above the pool by the walkway down to the Beach,
get the pool in the foreground - looks great and can appear to be an extension of the beach.

The Road side near the Church is also a good place to get a special shot, or over the new harbour as well.
I treated myself to a new camera this year - so hoping to get that better picture again.    8)
Have fun

San Stefanos news and views / Re: HOW LONG UNTIL YOU GO?
« on: May 11, 2008, 04:14:50 AM »
Hi everybody !

Well am reporting back from the wonderful San Stef !!!

am sooooo depressed to be back home. :'(

Weather was good except one whole day that was wet n windy !!! but generally v good for the first week. They is a bit of building going on but not enough to ruin a holiday, couple of buildings going up just above havana on the beach front. Not everything was open being the first week but most was opening towards the end of our week. Was gutted cos wanted to go to Yannis and try this lamb you all talk about but he was opening til today.... but i had my fav meal again up at  Romanza, which is the lamb with yogurt... i highly recommend it...and tell Leo i sent you !!!!     :P

What can i say about Teresa, the family and the place are as gorgeous as ever and we were welcomed back like long lost friends which is lovely.  (Leo will be a daddy in about 7 weeks )Also spent many a night with our friends Hilary and Spiro at Bar38, who are on form and ready for the summer.

If any one wants to know anything, just ask, as i could just go on wittering on for ever, so best you just ask anything you need to know.   ???

Sarah Harris

P.s  the mexican is still as it was last year.....a building crying out for me to take over !!!!

Also there is a new place being done out now next door to bar38, they did a lot to it in the week we were there, sure it will be open in a few weeks.

Our favourite line for the hols was.... "they've had all winter to get that ready !!!!"

Hi - sounds like you had a great time - we are just packing the cases as we go next friday morning.
Tony (Bob the Builder) is going at the same time as us - so we hope to meet up and have a chat and a drink.
Now the questions????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
What is the new place you mentioned going to be - a Bar?? is it to the right of Bar38?
Is the Cash Machine outside the Thomas Bay Hotel working now?
Is the beach working as normal with all the sunbeds out?
Did you go into the Havana Beach Bar and are the usual crowd all there?
You said Leon is going to be a dad - any sign of their wedding - or did I miss it?
Thanks
Glad you had a great time - looking forward to our break now and the chance to chill out in San Stef!!

Two shy guys (early twenties) coming out for 2 weeks holiday at the beginning of June.Any suggestions of where to go?

Hi BarPolo
Two Guys in your early twenties. I don't know what you guys like or want, being brutally honest, unless you are going for a quiet holiday,
San Stefanos may not be your ideal place.
You would be better placed in Sidari, especially if you are on the hunt for lots of girls. There may be a few around - but you need to be quite lucky.
San Stefanos is not the place to go, just to get out of your head, (mind you - I have wobbled back to the apartment a few times!!),
but if you just want to chill out and are laid back - you may well like it.
I am sure you're not like the following, or you wouldn't have bothered to write here, but, it's not a "Larger-Lout" type of place,
as no one appreciates that kind of anti-social behaviour, especially the locals.

However all is not lost!! My son (now 28 & married), used to love it here a few years back, as a single guy.
He was here most years until he was 24/25 and has been back since with his wife.
Surprisingly (well we thought so), he would often tag along if we were coming out, on his own, and he loved to (still does), go to Caesar's Nightclub in Sidari.
He got to know the local lads, over the years and would pal up with one or more of them, or friends met on holiday, and share a Taxi there and back.
or get a lift there and a Taxi back - Sidari has lots of Music Bars etc, etc. & is a busy buzzing place, but nothing like as crazy as Kavos, which is more 18-30 club.

Go and have an afternoon drink and snack in the Havana Beach Bar (up the beach a bit - towards the nudie beach - 2nd Beach Bar), it has a volly-ball court
outside it. The older waiter / Bar Manager called Spiros (they'e all called Spiros in the Havana), who has a slightly deformed hand, is also the DJ at Caesar's.
Chat with him and he will put you right, (He's a top DJ I am told), in fact Spiros is a totally nice and brilliantly helpful guy.
The other lads there, are also very friendly and will give you some idea's.
Also, besides the Condor, a nice disco-bar, try the Athens Bar. The younger set tend to hang there as well and they play appropriately good music.
Hope it works well for you - enjoy your holiday - Tony C
