Where to stay / Re: appartments for 4 adults

Theodosia (up slight slope) next to the Olympia have apartments with two bedrooms which are suitable for four adults. You can book them through Noala at SS travel. They are in a really good location and are very clean.

Theodosia apartments would also be great for you Bee. I book them through Noula and have stayed there for the last few years, usually alone. They are just between the paper shop and Olympia so are good for both the old village and "the strip".

Obviously we can all only speak as we find, but I have to say that my partner and I (with and without different combinations of children and friends) have been to Ag Stef every year for the past 14 years..... apart from one disastrous year. I recklessly decided that we needed to branch out and be brave and see more of Greece. I spent ages researching resorts and after a great deal of time I chose Mastihari. BIGGEST HOLIDAY MISTAKE EVER, for us at any rate. I was there for a month and even by the end I still did not feel relaxed or any warmth for the place at all. I was back in Ag Stef in the October half term!
I did not really like the village, the beach(huge amounts of seaweed that was never cleared), the restaurants (which all had touts outside so that you could not even look at a menu without being pressured to go in) and I felt that the tradespeople there were much more pushy in general.
I had travelled with Black Cat and whilst I found Kevin in the UK to be very well organised and pleasant to deal with, the woman who was the rep operated out of her own restaurant on the beachfront was extremely cool and somewhat unhelpful.
I felt that when I was asking for a little information or assistance that I was being a nuisance. This was the case even when we were actually eating at her place. I spent the last two weeks of the holiday alone (as I often do in Ag Stef) but did not really enjoy the experience.
Other people may well have different views but I hope this is helpful.

Where to stay / Re: Travelling and staying on own
« on: July 26, 2012, 10:23:57 PM »
Hello Chrissie,
As I type this I am in Theodosia apartments San Stef. I am alone here for five weeks.
I have visited the resort for the past 13 years, with my partner, children and childrens' friends  and various combinations of these
For various reasons I am on my own this year as I have been for periods over the last 3 years. I have also come out at October half terms.
I think that  Theodosia is a brilliant place to stay as it is between the old part of the village and the new. I book it through Noula at San Stef travel and I always have a room on the first floor. This means that I feel somewhat safer being one floor up ,,, but have to say I would not worry being on the ground floor.

There is no problem what so ever about being alone. as everyone has said, if you want to  talk to people they will talk to you if you want to do a Greta Garbo they will accept that too. I have never felt at all lonely here. I go out to dinner with a book... just in case... but rarely read any of it! All pool bars will welcome you if you want company in the day. It is a wonderful place to be. Any particular`questions/enquiries jus ask. Do not hesitate to book.

Hiya Pally,
You will undoubtedly love the village.

The beach is very very long and is wonderfully sandy. There are always lots of sun beds. The usual rate is something like 8 euros per day for two beds and an umbrella that is then yours for the day.

There are lots of wonderful places to eat. Just browse the forum to get some ideas.
There many traditional greek taverna type places and this year there is apparently even a Chinese. Everywhere you choose to eat will be good! There are specials in most places for about 8 -9 Euros.

There is one ATM outside of the Thomas Bay Hotel (in the centre of the village) but it is not to be depended upon. It can run out of funds. (Although I have never had a prob with it)

If you have any specific questions just post them here and someone will answer!
it's a special place and the people who go there are generally great.

Agree with both your plan of action and the underlying sentiment Tony.

Really can't envisage eating Chinese in SS! Too many wonderful places to eat Greek food. But each to their own.  :)

Hi Alan,
I know that lots of people like air con but I have been to Ag Stef for last 12 years in July and August and never used it at all. We used to take a fan with us. If you are going with daughters you may have room in a suitcase to do this too. There are places in the village where you can hire fans. Noula at San Stef travel usually has some and the car hire place in the middle of the village by Bar 38 also used to hire them too. In recent years I have simply left windows open all night..... but have covered the windows with netting from Kleeneze. They come with a sticky velcro strip thing. Many rooms also have pull down Mozzie nets. I have never stayed at Terezas so don't know if they have them there. Maybe the girls could have a fan and you use the nets?? I think that an extra 35 euros a week is better spent on a few glasses of dry white..... I would like to say I am thinking only of my carbon footprint but would be fibbing!

According to Noula, Theodosia will have wii fi this year too. I tried to use Thanasis from Tsaros last year but the signal was just not strong enough. Fingers crossed for this year.

Anything that helps to keep the village alive is a good idea in my opinion. I probably wont use it because I do love the greek food wherever I eat there, but as you say Sarah it gives people another option and it's always sad to see an empty building. Do we have any idea about who is actually going to run it ?

That's areally good idea to keep score!
I have only tried the Sunset once and can honestly say that it was one of the least good meals I have ever had in San Stef. Maybe I need to give it another go. Anyone can have an off night. It was very very quiet and the food was mediocre and unfortunately cold (even for Greek standards!)
