There's a lot of activity in the Facebook groups. What's goin' on is: (1) people taking pictures of cats; (2) people taking pictures of their food. Off camera, the cats are probably nicking the food as well - so we can surmise that Brits and cats are getting fatter. Things are being spit-roasted, boiled and grilled at Manthos and other places. The webcam (above) reveals people lounging about on the beach outside Waves from about 11am until 6pm, with a thinning-out around 1pm as people go to Waves to take pictures of their food, watched by salivating cats. Given the, in my opinion rather strange, love some people have for cats I suspect it won't be long before somebody starts a fund to give all the stray cats in the village a mobile phone so they can post selfies to Facebook of their dinners. I recently bought a 170 degree sports video camera so I'll be able to take wide-angle mp4s of everybody's dinner, with a good chance of a photo-bomb by a moggie or two.
So I reckon that with a lack of murders, volcanoes, tsunamis, alien invasions or other interruptions, it's pretty much the kind of languid inertia you'd expect in a Greek holiday village in the summer. For more exciting fare, buy myfabulouscollection of novellas "Fragments of tomorrow" in paper or Kindle versions on Amazon and read Digital Rites - there's a murder in Little Prince.
The accident rates for quad-bikes are appalling, so it's possible to have some sympathy. For once, this is not a money-making event.Rubbish, accident rates for 2 wheeled bikes are worse. Which do you have experience with Jim?
Ive loved your posts Grounded. Brilliant
This is always a delicate issue. The general rule in the past has been to praise, but not condemn.
Personally, I think the idea is not to overdo it. There are some people on Facebook who post pictures of every meal they have, every sunset they've seen, and ever cat they stroked. Call me a miserable old fart (join the club) but I don't like looking at other peoples' dinners that much.
The Yammas Bar exists for a slightly freer exchange. Before Facebook there were long and heated arguments on here about whether the Romanza breakfast only gave Kumquat jam to a favoured few. There were stories, true and imagined - and the spectre of Vlad the Black Dog figured highly. Alas, those days have gone, buried under a pile of cats and dinners. But I would like the forum to remain a source of information and fun - not a review section.
