Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Little Prince.
« on: September 17, 2013, 08:36:10 PM »
I try sometimes to populate Ag Stef with Greek gods, goddesses, heroes and heroines. It is sensitive thing, best not revealed. Each taverna is its own little Mount Olympus.

At Little Prince, Dimitris is obviously Zeus, his commanding presence with his powerful order-pad poised. Pipinna has to be Athena - beautiful, intelligent, an ironic smile as she raises her eyebrow at an overfull-ashtray or yet another jug of krassi. Mixalis (Mike) is Hermes, dashing through the tables with the sizzling steak in a miasma of steam.

At Nafsika there are no visible gods, but you can eat under the guidance of Socrates, and buy Kleopatra a drink.

At Mistral, Aphrodite will serve you.

At O Manthos, Poseidon  will tell you very long stories.

Such is the joy. We go from our dismal northern regions and kiss the feet of the gods. We dare to dip our toes in the blue ocean which saw the ships sail forth to Troy. We bask in the rays of the sun that shone on Odysseus, Agamemnon and Theseus. We sit in the Condor Bar and listen to people singing strange ancient modes. We are transported to a realm above our mundane lives.

EDIT: From Thomson.com to Jimbo: "Thank you for your brochure suggestion. Unfortunately, our marketing team has decided to stick with the beach and 'only two rooms left' policy. If you are having problems with Greek gods, our reps are always available to help."

Pure genius Jimbo  8)

Thomsons always manipulate their advertising  - - i.e. last room, pricing etc  etc

Wifie fell for that old trick in June, only two seats blah blah, got onboard and were a good dozen or so empty.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Little Prince.

I am surprised this restaurant does not top this section of the forum. We have been twice this year to San Stefanos, and every evening we pass by this place,it is chock a block with folks enjoying their dinner. We ate here 4 times this week, and on one evening, people were turning away due to there being no tables. We counted them, and the restaurant has 40 tables. It barely rates a mention on TA too.The food is top quality, and well presented, and the menu is huge.We also dined at Waves,Fantasea,Two Stars, and Tasty Corner, none off them nearly as busy.Definately go back to Fantasea again, food was cooked to perfection, and what a delightful fella Kostas is.Roll on June 2014.

Just back tonight from a week a the Little Prince. We had a studio, and as Jimbo says, they are huge, two single beds and a settee / couch type bed for a third person. There are two apartments, one at either end of the first floor,we had one in June, and both have larger balconies. The staff there are the most helpful people you could wish to meet, you will have no worries with any help you may require.

Read on a post that someone saw snakes in the little stream near the Barras  :o.We are looking to do a few walks around the hills on our next visit, and these are something we have not thought about.Anyone shine some light on these critters in the village,as wifie is terrified now,are they dangerous and in numbers.

We were in SS in May for the first time, and had read about DB on TA.We could not get booked in due to them being  fully booked. On one of our wanders around the village,we came across this hotel, and thought, lets see what it offers, and maybe we can have a look around a room or even the pool area.We neared the reception door, and had a look to see if anyone was around, there was no one there,so we ventured further towards the pool.We just made the corner, when a voice sounded out from the aforementioned doorway,Excuse me!!,can I help,it was a lady, and she raised a naughty finger when we explained why we were there. We were politely told we could not venture any further as the guests were having dinner. We asked if we could book a room for next year, and were told again,it was fully booked. We felt so unwelcome, and like intruders.Little Prince will do just fine thank you.

I,m astounded and shocked at that,Mike ?,he is one of the most helpful guys we have ever come across on our travels. When our taxi looked like it was not going to appear on time to return us to the airport,he was going to call someone on our behalf to find out what was going on,and was annoyed at how we were being messed around. He was as anxious as we were,a lovely gentleman. We are so looking forward to our return visit in September, and having a good chat with him again.Top top bloke.
