Title: Thomson Flights being condensed via the Credit Crunch
Post by: tonyco1 on June 26, 2010, 06:28:48 PM
OUR FLIGHT CANCELLED:
We had a letter this morning and they have cancelled our flight.
Usually this is bad news, but we are very happy!!
The original Monday flight was to be a night flight, which we were not looking forward to to be honest,
as it would have meant arriving at the Thomas Bay at around 5.00 am Tues and being shattered,
but it was £84 each cheaper, so now we have a premium day flight, arriving around 3.pm for some pool time,
and evening meals, nicely refreshed.
I was even refunded £19 late check-out fee.
So now we have the same holiday which was £187 dearer than the one we booked! Bargain!!
So Jules - see you two on the Monday now instead of the Tuesday!
HAPPY DAYS!!

That is brilliant news Tony, a much better time for your arrival in SS.
I paid for alternative flights this year 8am instead of the 3.05pm flight that came with the holiday, I would'nt have bothered but since the holiday was much cheaper than we expected I decided to go with the flow. I booked the holiday on a Sunday and by Monday the same holiday had gone up by £300.

Are you saying two seperate flights are now one? If so then I wonder what happens to those who have pre booked their seats because the same seats could have been booked by 2 sets of people, will they have to sit on each others knee's or battle it out. Seriously, I wonder who gets to sit on the seats that were booked.

Excellent Tony -will see you for longer.. Did they ( assume Thomsons) give a reason why they cancelled your original flight?

The C S A on the phone line said, our flight was under-booked, so they have indeed combined the two.
I may have been the only one!! LOL
I received a letter this morning asking me to accept or reject the new flight and to phone them.
(what happens if we reject? - still no flight!!)
As for booking seats, we pre-paid seats together so we could pick our own seats, but were told we couldn't choose seats until this weekend anyway.
The new flight has been upgraded to a 757, which seats more and is usually used on medium haul flights - 4 to 8 hours normally.
This means the seats also have a little more leg room.
We like the Isle seat and the inner one next to it, I don't like being stuck in the window seat,
so we were able to book seats in the front few rows, same on return.
So far the inner window seat is unbooked, and this happened on the last trip, so we had a spare seat - luxury!!

If someone pre-books certain seats, unless its extra leg-room seats, where you pay £50 P.P., then they give you the same or,
offer you the nearest alternative - I suppose someone will end up upset - but what can they do?
This time it worked out well for us.

I had a surreal experience coming back from Halkidiki a few years ago.

We flew out direct from Manchester but coming back we had to first land at Luton and then fly onto Manchester!! Weird taking off in such a big plane only to land 20 mins later again!!

It was the second week in September and they said it was lack of demand that forced them to combine 2 flights. It was still only half full

I had that a good fews years ago where we took off in Birmingham and then went to East Midlands. Its like no sooner are you airbourne that you are descending again.
