When we last visited in June 2010 they were a nightmare!
Defo the worst we've encountered in 20 years in the Med.
And yes we spray every evening after showering with Autan - tried the smelly stuff they sell in the supermarkets in San Stef as well.

Seriously, prob the worst ever - and we used to visit Torrevieja in Spain 3 times/year staying right by the salt lakes there and that wasn't as bad as SS.

San Stefanos news and views / Thomson 2013
« on: April 29, 2012, 02:19:48 AM »
Thomson 2013 now online if anyone is interested. Not sure when they went live. Only noticed this evening but i think i looked a few days ago and certainly wasn't online then.

Thinking of returning in June 2013 - last visited SS in June 2010 when we flew with Ejet and stayed at Fedra Mare. To be honest i'd prefer to do that again but the Ejet flight times from BTL are rubbish.
If we do come in 2013 i think we'll do a Thomson deal at Teresas - fly from Birmingham - good flight times.
I could book today but my wife is constrained by work from booking early.
we'll see.

Information and help please / Re: Santorini Resorts
« on: April 20, 2012, 10:03:59 PM »
We visited Santorini in June 2008 - a friend from work here in the UK got married there.

We stayed in Kamari - v nice place, beach is pebbly, volcanic rock though. Food was of a v high quality in resort - the whole of the 'promenade' is lined with restaurants and 'boutique-style' small hotels and apartment accomodation.

Over on the other side of the island it's a v high coastline, cliffs, but this offers the most spectacular views into the volcano that's under the bay - at sunset the view is spectacular! The West side of the island, Fira, etc, is where all the cruise ship tourists come ashore and is v busy.

we loved it there - will go back one year.

But one word of warning it's quite expensive - i believe it's only 2nd to Mykonos for expense in Greece.

Take care in Fira especially - make sure you see the price of a drink first. We went in one bar overlooking the bay in Fira and two beers cost 16 euros!
Even in Kamari you have to be selective where you drink because of price. Avoid the fish restaurants as well - they'll charge you a fortune - if you really must have fish in one of the speciality fish restaurants get a price quoted first.

But go - you'll love it - just be sharp when it comes to selecting your favourite haunts, unless you're absolutely minted and don't care about price of things.

Out and About / Re: Boat trips

anyone done the trip to paleokastritsa ?

Yes - did it in 2010 when we were last in SS.
Usually get about 3 to 4 hours in Paleo i think.

We liked it mainly for the chance to get out on the sea for a couple of hours and see the West coast of Corfu from the sea.

Where to stay / Re: Just booked for 2012 today!!!!!!!
« on: September 24, 2011, 06:05:23 PM »
We paid £1014 for the 2 of us for 2 weeks the price now is over £1200 and they are showing as only 1 room left at Teresa so glad we booked when we did. This years holiday cost £900.00 but that didn't incude breakfast so we think we have got a fair price.

Crikey the prices have gone up a lot over the last couple of years - when we stayed at Teresas in June 2009 it only cost us £800 B&B for 2 weeks.
In 2010 we booked Easyjet from BTL and we stayed at Fedra Mare - total cost then was around £700.

We didn't come to SS this year but i did look for next year - Teresas too expensive for what it is, so i looked at Ejet and that was reasonable at £120 return each - add in a stay at Fedra Mare and it would've cost around £650 with a taxi transfer.
However, we've decided against it again for 2012 due to cr#p flight times from BTL with Ejet and Thomsons being too expensive.
Maybe we'll be back in 2013.

Just had a quick look for next June, as we're not coming to SS this year.

Going for just 7 nights the prices are steep, but 14 nights not too bad.
Teresas s/c, fly 8 June out of BTL - 7 night price is £395/person, stay for 14 nights and it's only £461 - although if i remember rightly that's a lot dearer than when we went in 2009. In 2010 we did Ejet and stay at Fedra Mare.

A weird one on Thomas Bay though - only 2 rooms left - this surely has to be a Thomson's marketing trick - only 2 rooms left when the holidays for 2012 have only been available a day or two! Suspicious!

By the way, i thought Teresas were 'leaving' Thomsons grasp for 2012 and beyond.

For those thinking of going Ejet and the likes, next year, i think we'll find flight prices will shoot up, because of the oil price - plus, Ejet have been losing money this year - i'm sure they'll try and clawback profits by increasing next year's prices.

Where to stay / Re: Fedra Mare / Perros ??
« on: January 13, 2011, 11:30:08 PM »
Myself and my wife stayed at Fedra Mare in June 2010, as a couple , no kids - it was fab - there were families there as well and they were more than happy with FM - you'd have no worries - Dimi and Hari are great hosts as well.
We had an evening meal at Perros and it was fab - the hotel and grounds looked lovely - so whatever you choose for 2011 i'm sure you'll all have a great time.

then I'd still go with the tour op as it's hassle free.
Also in this climate I like the safety of booking everything through the tour operator as at least you know you're covered if it all goes belly up!

I'd agree with the "in this climate" sentiment - but i would defo feel safe with Ejet - what i wouldn't do is use a small-time specialist package operator.

As for the cover if things go belly up - AXA do a travel insurance policy with an independent traveller's clause for a little extra premium - well worth a look for all those booking independently and not using a Thomson or Thomas Cook.

My twopennyworth for what it's worth - i'll keep it simple

Bristol to Corfu Friday 10 June 2011 for 14 nights

Thomsons - staying at Teresas on a B&B basis for 2 people, coach transfer included (could be upto 2hrs 30 mins) a price of £966 currently showing on Thomsons website

Ejet + Fedra Mare = £300 flights, approx £90 return taxi (took us 50 minutes in 2010, complimentary can of Mythos for the journey), accomodation approx £400 on a s/c basis = total say £800. Charge for Brekkie everyday for 2 at FM would be approx £6 = £84 for two weeks.

So around £80 cheaper at FM with Ejet

Thomson flights are better times though.

I'd prob go for Ejet + Fedra Mare again if we were visiting in 2011 and Dimi's brekkie is better than Teresas IMO
Having said that the Thomson price seems fair enough to me

Hi all - haven't posted for a while. as i posted a couple of months ago we're not going to SS this year - off to Fueterventura for a week in June with the lad and his girlfriend, plus the grandson. Booked a villa privately for £350, plus 4 Ejet flights from BTL for £75 each.

However, looking at Teresas prices for 2012 quite steep for SS for 2 weeks - 600 euros s.c. We paid a lot less at Fedra Mare in June 2010 that's for sure. we're lucky in that we can fly Ejet to Corfu from BTL, paid £175 each last year.
I think the trick with Thomsons, and a number have mentioned on here before, you have to try and book in July/August when the following year's hols come out. We paid about £850 for 2 weeks B&B at Teresas in 2009 with Thomsons incl. flights and transfers, so if you take Teresas price of 600 euros + flights with Ejet from BTL, plus taxi fare in Corfu it don't seem that cheap to me.
Cheers

Thanks for the tip about the Easyjets flights from Bristol.  I have just booked for the 10 of us to go on 22 July and the cost with a bag and the inevitable debit card fee was around £220 each, which is probably as cheap as we will get from a regional airport.  At least it is something to look forward to but the weather in Cornwall today was better than many days in summer and we were drinking outside until sundown.  Thanks again.

We paid £170 return in June this year from BTL - i think the flights for same period next June 2011 were showing about £130 when i looked yday.
Yours are prob dearer because of the school hols being close to your 22 July date.
Ejet flight times are rubbish again; hence, we're giving SS a miss in 2011.

Cornish Maid - they came online at about 5.00pm yday i think.
We're not visiting SS next year but got cheap flights to our 10-year summer haunt of Carvoeiro on The Algarve for next Sept and for a week's stay in June in Fueterventura. In fact the Fueterventura flights were only £75 return - wednesday to wednesday and good flight times.
The BTL-Corfu ejet flights are same times as this Summer - 6 in the evening - which aren't v.good, but as we stayed at Fedra Mare this June our private taxi transfer was v quick - we arrived at FM this June at 12.15am.

For those of us in the South, the Gatwick or Bristol flights are not showing yet for next Summer. I guess they'll come on to the Ejet site v.soon.

A bit unusual this year in that Ejet didn't put the summer months for 2011 in the drop-down bar for a week or so before they actually put the flights on, so has caught me out!
