Where to stay / Re: Thomas Cook (shocking)
« on: March 29, 2010, 05:40:06 PM »
Hello all, I've not been on here since last year but thought I'd pop back on as we're thinking about coming back to SS this year.
I'm shocked by what Rod has said as we would like to return to the Mythos.  :(

Tony, not sure I'd agree with you concerning the standard of the Mythos, our apartment was absolutely beautiful and couldn't fault a single thing (and believe me, I'm the biggest snob going!!). All fixtures and fittings were of an excellent standard.

I was going to book today, but not sure I'll bother now........ :'(

The problem with the Mythos apartments is that they are now under the control of Thomas Cook, or that's what Thomas Cook like to think. George (one of the owners) isn't happy with them as he still has independant bookings and despite telling Thomas Cook, they overbook. George is great but is a busy man, so mistakes are bound to happen.
I would hazard a guess that Thomas Cook didn't check and they have a overlap with independant bookings at the Mythos.

Nope Tony, I didn't pay any extra.
I think it was due to our friend arranging everything (she's a travel agent).
We even got the exit seats (extra leg room) free of charge. As the old saying goes "it's not what you know, it who's you know".

This isn't just the case for people using transport on the roads.
You should also ask your insurance provider whether it covers water sports (no dirty comments please  ;) ) and even boat trips.

I ensured that my travel and medical insurance covered using quad bikes. Didn't affect the premium either.

Just to let you know, the Mythos apartments are now on the books of Thomas Cook, so pretty much all bookings will be taken up by them.

I booked using a friend in the know.
She booked my flights through Thomas Cook then independently booked the apartments, through the Corfu Escape web-site I presume.

Good to have a travel agent as a friend!  8)

The prices are cheaper than San Stef, or they were last week.
These were the Sidari averages:

Pint = €2
3-course meal (like Zorba's etc) = €6 - €7

The steakhouse looked great value, a 20 oz T-Bone steak for €5.50 - Bloody brilliant value.

Let me try again!!  ;)

The apartments that look like mini houses have a balcony leading from the bedroom upstairs.
The apartments that have the two strange little windows do not have a balcony. Infact, they are just one big room, kitchen / diner / bathroom and bed in the same room.

If I was you, I'd ensure that you get one of the "little houses".....  8)

Air conditioning is available at the Mythos apartments at a cost of €7 per day.
However, most people didn't bother as you can close the shutter doors at an angle which allows a breeze to come in. The other impressive thing is that the double glazing door have a mosquito (sp) net attached. You just pull this down and lock it in place and Bob's your uncle, mossie free nights!!  8)

Yes, if you have a split level apartment (as we did), you have a lovely terrace from the bedroom.
If you're in apartment 3, be kind to it as I class it as mine now!!!  :D

San Stefanos news and views / Re: The Zimmer Newbie Review
« on: July 14, 2009, 09:51:36 PM »
I think the "regulars" of San Stef need to chill a little.
I think Zimmers assessment is pretty accurate.

It is not a quiet village as some people make out and is far more commercial than I expected from reading this forum.
Having said that, it is still as brit resorts go, a very small and quiet resort.

I loved my holiday as did my partner, partly due to the fact 4 weeks ago, she was having major surgery and because it suited us down to the ground. The holiday only cost us £600 and was exceptional value for money.
