Information and help please / Re: Abandoned Hotel ?
« on: August 09, 2013, 11:24:23 PM »
The hotel did open for a short time, but closed around June 2007. If you google the name you can read reports on it.
I have heard various reasons as to why it closed down not sure if any are true!!
An All Inclusive hotel in SS would not have been popular with the locals that's for sure!

The weather at the moment is perfect 29c during the day and 25c during the evening with a light breeze. The cold conditions were caused by the strong north wind which has gone now. Andy

San Stefanos news and views / Doughnut Man Gets His Melons!
« on: July 08, 2013, 11:47:58 AM »
The doughnut man has vanished from san steph beach following the errection of signs warning people not to buy from beach sellers as it is hazadous to health! The warning sign is clear and permanent and i can only presume the authorities had some complaints, also i bet he wasnt paying any tax! Here for 10 days stopping at the Tereza, town is still fairly quiet but some tavernas are doing 3 course specials for 7e, at the new restaurant you even get a choice of menu! How they can make money on that is beyond me. Been in little prince which was busy but not packed, many of the other Tavernas were quiet. The beach is very busy and is slowly getting wider. Weather is perfect about 29c and a light breeze, many people have told us about the unusually cold conditions last month but its hot enough now. Tereza is great, we have a room overlooking the pool and sea. Will report more later. Andy

Slightly unedited video, but you do get a real sense of the chaos.

My favourite line is "Don't shut me out, you daft cow!"

Yes, that made me laugh, also did you note the state of the camera mans apartment, it looked like the Tornado had been through there as well!

Felt sorry for the cleaner.

A search shows that it's quite complicated. Is it using Little Planet (Lithuanian) planes? Is it using (Italian) Meridiana planes?

Most importantly, is it ATOL certified? Some web posts suggest that it's not. They may be right or wrong.

I would absolutely require ATOL before buying a flight.

ATOL or not they are a small tinpot airline with old planes and a poor timekeeping record.

They are not even that cheap! So stick with Easyjet and Jet2 both of which are my favourite carriers, better than Thompson and its rip off extra leg room seats charges.

Some years are worse than others but we go every September so they can't be that bad! The breezy conditions in San Steph seems to keep the numbers down, they were far worse in Kassiopi when we visited in Sept 2010.

Hi, first post for me. I'm sitting on my balcony looking out over the amazing San stefanos bay.  This is our 2nd visit and I wanted to post about the changes in the short 9 month gap in between our holidays.

The biggest of course is the shrinking beach. We were told there were big storms in Feb that shrank the beach to half its width overnight. Anyone got more info on that?

Also, I wanted to point out to visitors to be a bit careful when you walk beyond the Havana bar. I took a walk with my nearly 4 year old yesterday and noticed a fair amount of broken glass on the beach. Fortunately on the main beach the only thing to be wary of was the jellyfish washed up after the high winds on Tues and Wed.

Yes, beyond the Havana Bar the beach is littered with rubbish inc. broken glass so beware, it's not local or holidaymakers that drop this stuff most of it is washed a shore having been thrown overboard by idiot boat and yacht owners. I found several empty outboard motor oil containers which is a bit of a give away as to where it came from!

If any boat owner is caught throwing rubbish into the sea I think the authorities should torch his boat while the owner watches.

Having enjoyed reading books for decades I was dead against a kindle but last Christmas Gill (against my wishes) brought me a kindle paper light and I haven't looked back.

On holiday they are great, so light and easy to read in the sun. If you run out of books you just go to a wi FI zone and buy a new one which arrives in seconds. I wouldn't take a book on holiday now but I agree with Jimbo, if you want to read buy a kindle not a tablet as you can't read them in bright conditions. The face of the kindle isn't glass so does not reflect the light.

Had a run over to Arilas cliff path is open but only 9 inches wide in places so rope and ice axe recommended! Minstral and Manthos opened this morning and Olympia is about too. A few more people about now as well and with the weather being so warm it feels like mid summer! You will see by webcam that work is in progress on beach but its a slow process. Just having a Mythos and club sandwich in little prince so must go.... Andy

Glorious morning this morning not a cloud in the sky.

Spent last night in the Little Prince and had a lovely evening, had about 5 couples all night so it was quiet, there was about 4 people in 2 Stars and a few people in Silver Star otherwise this end of town was very quiet.

Thomas Bay is fully open offering meals and snacks but it was the only place open on the main street apart from Yiannis Giros place.

The Village will be quiet until the next influx of people on Monday and many bars are waiting till then before opening up. Spoke to Spiros at the Havana Bar and he is open but only serving drinks until Tuesday. He has done a lot of work to the Bar and it looks great.

Delfino Blue extension still isnt finished, indeed, the whole hotel shows little sign of life!.

So just enjoying a full English Breakfast before heading out and seeing what else is new, then its a day by the pool.

Its a hard life but someone has to do it! ;D ;D

Hi,

After the longest winter I can remember the temptation to come out to San Steph was just too much so last Sunday we flew out with Easyjet from Luton.

Sunday night we stayed in Corfu Town which was buzzing with pre Easter celebrations, next we booked a Villa in Kassiopi with Agni called The Doctors House, it was lovely although the pool was so cold it was for the hardy only.

The weather has been amazing, one advantage of being interested in the weather is that I knew the spell of hot weather in Corfu was coming so was able to book flights/accommodation/hire car in advance. Every day has been sunny and between 26c-29c, its a bit cloudier today but still 27c.

So this morning we arrived in San Stef and booked into the Little Prince, as always the Apartment is fantastic. Until about 2pm we had the Village to ouselves although the coaches are starting to arrive now.

So whats changed?

The Village

A new Restaurant has opened up where Mamma Mias used to be, it does Pizza, seafood and Steak based meals and looks nice inside. San Stephano car hire has moved to a new building where the old gift shop was and the old San Stephano car hire shop is undergoing some type of renovation.

So far the Little Prince, 2 Stars and Yiannis are open but most of the others are still close. The Greek Easter this weekend is leading to a delayed opening for many Taverna and there is no sign of life at Zorbas or Olympia.

The Beach

Oh dear, what a mess, sea weed everwhere and no sign of sun beds. The beach has lost a lot of sand and is very narrow past the Havana Bar, the local auithority is trying to clear the beach but the wet winter has turned the sand into quick sand so they have their work cut out!

Arillas

Even quieter than San Steph although tourist were arriving as we left, the beach near the Jetty isnt too bad but under the cliffs it has vanished, hopefully as in San Steph the beach will grow and dry out over the coming weeks.

Tonight the few people staying at the Little Prince will be gathering for opening night and I imagine a cosy atmosphere will ensure!

More to follow over the next few days as the Village 'Opens Up'!
