Title: Cash Machines in San Stefanos 2010
Post by: tonyco1 on March 03, 2010, 02:49:19 AM
I thought we should revive this one again to give people info:

If anyone knows of other Cash Machines - please update the posting!

I made an arrangement on my Bank account - to have free (no charges) withdrawals from oversea's cash machines.
Please check this and try to obtain similar - saves lots of cash.
(Note: some foreign banks still make a small charge anyway - which is of course morally wrong! - but you won't get hit twice).

Locations:
In San Stefanos - - Outside the main door of the Thomas Bay Hotel.
Arillas - - on the T-Junction from San Stefanos - where you turn right to go to the beach (which is 100metres ahead).
Avliotes - - I believe so - but not sure - anyone know??
Sidari - - Several Cash Machines along the one-way section where the shops are, you can't miss them!!.

to forum members regarding the bye pass from avliotes  to sidari ive spoken to my friends living in avliotes and they have told me its no near completion in fact nothing has been done since last year and they think plans have been put on hold while the greek money situation is sorted but they say that could take at least one to two years time .so it looks like we still have to go throught the village it will give the village of avloites their summer trade which in my opinion can only be good for them and its a nice village to have a meal orjust a drink and watch the village live go by the greek way roll on may to be back in gods country. yammos mike.

I wouldn't rely on the cash machine at the Thomas Bay as I have tried it quite a few times and it has never worked for me.I know of others who have had the same problem. In July 2009 the cash point in Arillas was out of order and was still the same when we returned in September. A warning to anyone with Nat West switch/maestro card, they are not accepted in the shops you will need to use Visa or Mastercard.

The Thomas Bay cash machine does have a tendency to run out,
but we have used it quite a few times and only once was cash not available.
Seems you were one of the unlucky ones.

Since we had problems in 2008 and finished up living on IOU's for 2 days ( couldn't do that anywhere else) we decided to use travelers cheques to get cash last year, will be doing the same this time.

Where else in the world would they say ' Don't worry, pay when you come back next year'  and they mean it

When I first came in 1983, Stefanos (Condor Owner) was working in the Golden Beach with Nikkos his Brother, for their Dad Costas.
Almost every night, he would say - pay me in the morning or later-later.
Then I had a job to remember - so he would say ok you pay for 3 drinks and I will pay for 2!!
A couple of years later in Nondas Villas & Apt.s, Dimitri opened the Bar - left a Jar and price list - and said help yourself,
money in the Jar - and went out on the town!
We all paid of course and had a great time - like you say - where else?
It's why we return every year - the people!!

Just to let people know,
the cash machine in Arrilas has been taken out this week by "euro bank" as it was deemed to be unprofitable!!  :( It was one of the more reliable ones too

Thomas bay machine not working the week we were there, 21st - 28th.

Tuesday moring was some hope but no cash then the thing failed to switch on, it was failing to boot (no system disk error)

Best advice is to get a quad and ride up to Avliotes where there is a machine outside the pharmacy.

The kind receptionist, Ireni, at Thomas Bay acctually drove us there on the Monday and we also found one out and about in a resort near Corfu town.

Hopefully this will be sorted soon!!

Taxi - I have friends who loan me a quad and I nip to Sidari usually, as it has at least 4 cash machines plus the big cheap Supermarket on the crossroads!
and only 15 mins -but Avliotes is fine for a quick turn around!!
