San Stefanos news and views / Re: Duty Free allowance
« on: July 31, 2012, 04:07:59 PM »
I've had a couple of guests asking about the tax free allowance.  As I don't have a printer, I advised them to go to the 3 W's and print this page off.  HMRC don't have a leg to stand on.  They have no right to confiscate ciggies over and 800.

Arrivals from EU countries
When arriving into the UK from an EU country you can bring in an unlimited amount of most goods.

For excise goods such as alcohol and tobacco, there are no restrictions. However you must meet the conditions below:

•You transport the goods yourself.
•The goods are for your own use or as a gift. If the person you give the goods to pays you in any way - including reimbursing you for any expenses or payment in kind - then it's not a gift and the goods may be seized.
•The goods are duty and tax paid in the EU country where they were acquired.
If you don't meet these conditions, the goods and any vehicle that transported them, may be seized.

You can read more about Excise Duty in the guide 'Customs Duty, Excise Duty and Import VAT: introduction'. You'll find a link to this in the ‘More useful links’ section below.

Will keep you updated on progress.  Also, not far behind the petrol station, Dimitris Church is in scaffolding.  The church has to be moved further back from the road.  There is no tarmac on this part of the road either.  I really hope that whatever dispute is going on, is resolved soon.

The road isn't finished.  In the middle a small bridge needs to be built over a dirt track type road, so that the locals have access to their land.  Not sure when this will be completed.  There seems to be a dispute over the cost.  I go running on that road and am amazed at the amount of cars using the road, when there are no entry signs at both ends.  Already some of the loose chippings and rocks have already been displaced.  Only a matter ot time before there is an accident, as most of the cares and bikes that are using the road are driving far too fast over the part of the road yet to be completed.

Information and help please / Re: Baggage allowances
« on: August 08, 2011, 04:05:41 PM »
Hi Iris,

Just goes to show the conflicting information that is given to Reps and what is printed on your ticket.  If you arrive with half your clothes, I will know why, but make sure all your clothes stay in the case, as men don't really need that much lol.  And yes, I am hankering after tattie scones.

See ou in 3 weeks  :)

Hi Iris,

Just checked with the Rep.  Your luggage allowance is 15kg each.  If you are combining your luggage allowance, you will need to notify TC in advance, or else you may be charged for each kilo over the 15kg allowance. I would call them well in advance of your departure date and get an email from them confirming that you have a combined baggage allowance.

See you in a few weeks

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Restaurant recomendations
« on: July 22, 2011, 01:00:48 PM »
The Olive Press hasn't opened this year.  Try Yiannis Grill.  Their Meze for 2 is huge.  You get beefteki (Greek burgers) souvlaki, chicken, grilled thick slices of pancetta, lamb chops, chips and a little salad.  Also on offer is the usual Greek traditional dishes at very reasonable prices.  They have spit roast lamb on Saturdays and spit roast pork, but not sure which night this is the special.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Greek sim cards
« on: July 18, 2011, 02:17:36 PM »
It is no longer possible to buy Greek sim cards over the counter as such.  We had to go to Vodafone in Acharavi last year to register my Sim along with my passport and provide a Greek address.  We had to do this last year before end of June or else my number would have been disconnected.  This is for a pay as you go Sim.  Hope this helps

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Corfu Heat Wave
« on: July 16, 2011, 01:03:18 PM »
We all like the heat, but not this hot.  Believe me, all us locals are suffering and the heatwave is set to continue right through August.  In Avliotes, it is even hotter.  My sleep is suffering, which is not good.  Sleep deprivation is not good for the soul.  September can't come quick enough for cooler nights!  8)

Having just read Andrew's post, the best thing to do Tony is check you invoice to see what you have requested.  If it only says sea view, I would do an amendment booking requesting a balcony, as you may well end up with one of the rooms with a sea view and without a balcony.  :)

From what I've heard, Mythos will still be with Thomas Cook and will have around 2 -3 studios for private hire.  There were some over bookings this year, with the owners taking private bookings and Thomas Cook taking bookings as well.  Should all be resolved now.

See you on Monday Mel.  What's your surname and what time does your flight land?  :)

Hi Tony,

If you can, try to call back later.  Olga usually starts work at 3pm - 1am Greek time.

Hope this helps.

Manos is indeed part of the Thomas Cook Group.  This is the first year that the Vicky Apartments are now Manos as opposed to Thomas Cook.  Hopefully anyone that is planning to come to the Vicky won't have any problems finding us and will be able to book without any problem as well.

Reason I posted the weblink for 2012 is many of the Vicky regulars book as soon as soon as they go home and I just don't want them to be told there is no availability.  If this does happen to anyone, I would suggest contacting head office directly. 8)

Thanks Lesley, hope you have a fab summer too  :)

For anyone that is planning to come to the Vicky in, 2012 prices are now available on this weblink
