Title: Advice, how to take money??
Post by: julie49 on April 18, 2009, 10:13:43 PM
We usually rely on atm's but understand that this may not be a good idea, advice please on how best to take money?  The travel agent told me today that they are advising people not to use credit cards abroad because of fraud, but to take traveller cheques, they seemed to think they could be used as cash in restaurants? Would it be best to take travellers cheques in euro's or sterling? Any help appreciated.

We two always take cash to San Stef too!!! Unfortunately being of the tight fisted variety we use the free safety deposit boxes at Sidari/Kappa travel.

cash? is that Euro or sterling? I normally take Euro's and some sterling for the taxi to/from Cardiff airport, I use a card at the airport and on the flight

We do also make sure we have debit cards with us just in case but have never had to use them.

Always take €uros.... Have contract with company at this end for home to airport transfers. Pay Noula for transfers at other end in cash. Don't use cards abroad at all. Proved a good move last year as some nice soul spent £500 while we were in san Stef last July. Lloyds refunded our cash straight away.

These girls must be responsible for the slaughter of an entire herd of cattle with the amount of leather they own!!
Every sizzling steak in the Little prince also produced 20 handbags and 20 pair of shoes!!
Linda has the Handbag & shoe disease as well.
No wonder they will be taking thousands of pounds in cash!!
I wonder if they look at cats and think "Hmmmm - cat conversion - handbag without the meow".

Hi Pennie,
Difficult, best to take too much - if you are going to just buy lunch as you are on H/Board, I would say £10 a day for the Beach and Lunch,
or go to the bakers and buy/make a roll etc - take a bottle of water - less than a fiver!!
Just Drinks and excursions, bit of shopping etc,
Excursion prices should be on San Stefanos Travel website, cheaper than Thompsons for the same thing and fully insured!
Shopping - only you can say this one - but you are bound to spend!!
Question is - how much do you drink?
Don has suggested drink prices in this forum - last year I bought 4 drinks - beer plus 3 x shorts & mixers for around €10-12,
trouble is - you always spend more than you want to!! When are you going???

For lunch each day I would allow €10 / €12 if eating out at lunch so you know you are well covered. For the beach last year 2 loungers and a parasol were round about €7 per day. Drinkswise it depends on what or how much you drink. Whatever you have left from one day to the next will be a bonus.Whatever you do you will enjoy San Stefanos. :)

Your debit card should work in the cash machines - (mine did), if they bother to load them of course!!!
