Just a thought - I remember with great fondness, about 15 years ago now, being invited to Nikos's (of Golden Beach), house in the village.
Looking fairly ordinary on the outside, in the main street - it was spectacular inside, full of marble, Italian furniture and great views to the rear. After some nibbles, we went to a local taverna overlooking what used to be an almost triangular piece of land, (it now houses a lovely bandstand).
In this piece of land was a kind of gravel football pitch - with just one goal at the wide end.
We watched the local kids play a game while we ate, they had an understanding - their own kind of rules, and shared the goal.
Great fun to watch and the meal was both v/cheap and v/v/good.
I can't remember the name of this Taverna, above what is now the bandstand, does anyone remember what it's called?
Also does anyone remember the strange football pitch from years ago?

Sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Long before my time. Probably that long ago I was in short trousers!

Never made it to Avliotes. Last time we tried walking and got a lift back to SS before managing to get there by Sue and John (or should I say rescued). Boy were we glad to see them. :) We hadn't taken any water with us as we didn't expect it to take as long as it was. This year we will go on Quads and probably lunch there. :) 8)

We always have a walk up to Avliotes when visiting San Stef. We have lunch and a few drinks in the taverna overlooking the area mentioned. If I recall correctly the taverna is named The Vines.

Do you mind? Those bottle thick sunglasses are genuine 500ml Mythos bottles and they are full! Full of ice cold amber nectar! Mythos should win tbe beer festival prizes , the MBE, The VC, the Champions League the Blue Square etc! etc!

Well I am driving a Mythos as well, but I swear I see a Carlsburg coming up on the inside track,
and we've all seen the adverts!! I think it may have been Possibly the best footie pitch in the world!!

Moths is probably the worst spelling of Mythos ever!!! I would just like to say it is cruelty picking on me by saying I am tight. I can't help being Scots!

So the stories are true, Don actually squeaks when he walks and feels ill when the wallet opens!!
Not to worry - I'm sure I can buy him one in return!! (put the colour back in his cheeks).

Got to admit they are now getting used to me in San Stef. They no longer offer me the bill, they give it straight to Sandra. I never carry money!
Back on the thread, it is only at holiday times that I really wish I had a driving licence. been halves with a good friend for a hire car a couple of times and been all along the North Coast from Sidari to San Stefanos, and down the west as far as Paleo. Would really like to spend more time in these places but c'est la vie! Avliotes always looks interesting when we go through it on the bus or by taxi.
