San Stefanos news and views / Re: Back last week!
« on: August 23, 2013, 11:46:25 AM »
thanks all. I'm with you Gav, its not so much us putting up with tantrums etc (we're used to it!!), but the impact it has on the rest of the diners.  Its good to know that you all think it would be fine.  We're going at half term next year, so there might be a few more children around anyway.

We love trying out good restaurants here in the UK, so we'll make sure we try some of the others next time.

How were they with children? Our son will be nearly 5 when we go next May - reasonably good at sitting still, but got bored after a while (understandably!), hence why we've tended to use Zorba's, 2 Stars and Little Prince for the entertainment.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Delfino Blu.................

I don't think Kostas would be pleased to read this review at all! It'll be interesting to see how a less than favourable review goes down on Trip Advisor! Its certainly not the way he would expect his staff to behave.  I agree with Debra that we didn't experience this at all in our homeymoon stay there this year - the four male waiters/bar staff could not have been more attentive and friendly, I'm intrigued which one it was. Maybe there's some truth in it being one rule for residents and another for visitors - which it shouldn't be of course.  How disappointing though for you Silverstar, especially as it wasn't your first visit there and wanted to show it off.

Kostas told me he used to be a professional footballer (goalkeeper) in Germany and on the mainland in Greece.  He certainly seems to have a reputation as a businessman who works his staff extremely hard.  We met Dimitri (I think?) from Brouklis in Arillas (great restaurant), and it seems Kostas' reputation is the same there. We also heard the rooms/hotel next to Delfino (where the greek flag flies) were going to be a partnership with Kostas and another man, but that they had fallen out.

Great review - isn't it funny how we all feedback on food experiences!!

I think next May we'll have to be more adventurous with our restaurant choices and activity - we need to venture further than Two Stars, Zorbas and Little Prince!  I'm thinking we should try Fantasea, Beachcomber, Nafsika and Ozzy Oil... mind you, if we don't try them all, it gives us another excuse to come back!

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: The Chinese! !!!!
« on: August 20, 2013, 01:15:34 PM »
Do you think there's an underlying issue here of too many restaurants in the village?  I know we all have our favourites and some are definitely more full than others, but in the end, there are only so many visitors staying at any one time, so not all can survive? (putting my tin hat on now for the responses!!)

When we went for our first visit to SS, I was really surprised to see a Chinese restaurant right in the middle of a Greek village. And it always seemed really quiet...

I guess our prices were up due to booking a bit later?  Hopefully we'll get them for under £200 this time, though as we're away for half term, I doubt it!

No probs, £226 each, with priority boarding and named seats both ways.  We actually had to rebook via easyjet when Ryanair changed their flights from early morning to late afternoon, effectively meaning we'd lost a day of our honeymoon.  Another reason why we don't care much for Ryanair!

Having flown Ryanair from Stansted in Sept 2012 and Easyjet from Luton in June this year, our opinion is Stansted is the better airport but Easyjet were the better airline.  We had good flight times on both occasions, early flights out getting to SS by mid-afternoon and returning in the middle of the day, meaning we didn't endure a very early morning departure or hanging around in the resort. Getting a taxi transfer is a big plus too, at 45 mins its sooo much better than the 2 hour Thompson transfer bus.  We'd definitely recommend it, it works well for us.  As you said, Easyjet are releasing their April, May and June 2014 flights in early Sept.

Where to stay / Re: Easyjet - 2014
« on: August 09, 2013, 04:50:31 PM »
I doubt with Easyjet based at Luton, they'd fly out of Stansted as well.

Sorry if I misled, we're hoping for a Stansted -> Corfu flight as it our closest 'budget' airline airport but having flown Ryanair from Stansted and Easyjet from Luton, we much preferred the Easyjet experience, but not so much the Luton bit.  I guess you just grin and bear it for what awaits you at the other end - at least on the way out anyway!

Easyjet posted on their Facebook page yesterday that their Apr, May and June flights will be going on sale in early Sept.  I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a flight on May 20th from Luton/Stansted!

I'd echo Gavlah's views of Olympia - we're relative SS virgins (only been twice!), but both holidays it was empty (Sept12 and June13).  I know it gets rave reviews from others, but I can only speak as we saw it... so we haven't been.

Little Prince - I'd agree food is just better than OK, but you'll get a good welcome and entertainment is fun for all. Kleftico this year was v.good.
Two Stars - lovely welcome (but you'll get that everywhere!), food was probably the same as Little Prince, but they had some toys which enabled our 4 year old to play while we ate - occasionally a godsend!
Zorbas - good food, marginally better entertainment.
Terezas BBQ - not to be missed!
Manthos - good food, only been once for lunch though.
Mango beach bar - excellent for lunch, lovely setting
Summer Dreams - again, good for lunch, not the most picturesque, but sardines and meze were fab.

Didn't try Med Village - looked a bit clinical to me, new this year, but seems to be getting a good reputation.

Lastly, my recommendation would be to try the daily specials, almost always good value!

saw a couple on the beach when we were there 9-20 June following the strong winds/waves and another in the creek near Waves. All dead and about the size of a £2 coin...

We had our 2nd trip to SS in June this year (our honeymoon).  Didn't try the Corfu beer on our first trip - I only found out about it after we returned last year, so I couldn't wait to try it this time. Couldn't agree more with Gavlah - the dark ale was far too heavy in the warm weather, Pilsner much more suitable! Wish I could try it here, had to settle for Mythos from Tesco!!

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Romantic Meal.

We were very fortunate to be staying at Delfino Blu for our honeymoon from 9-20 June. Staff and service are excellent. 5 course evening meal - soup, starter (3 choices), salad, main (3 choices), dessert (3 or 4 choices).  Chef is trying to do local dishes every night.  Not cheap by SS standards at €25 + wine, but you do get a lovely meal, superb service and a great setting - when its not windy!
